| 001 Glenn E. Stewart, 79, of Springfield, Ill., passed away Tuesday, Sept. 27, 2011 at Memorial Medical Center, Springfield, Ill. Mr. Stewart was born July 10, 1932 near Hopkins, Mo., the son of Glenn M. and Opal F. (Clayton) Stewart. He graduated from Clarinda High School in 1950 and married Paula Reaney on October 6, 1956 in Des Moines, Iowa. He graduated from Iowa State University with a degree in Agricultural Engineering and started with Caterpillar in East Peoria, Ill. He served in the United States Air Force from 1955 to 1958, earning the rank of First Lieutenant. He continued his professional career with Fiat-Allis until his retirement. Glenn was a member of Westminster Presbyterian Church, the Masonic Lodge and Ansar Temple. He was a devoted family man and enjoyed sailing with friends. Glenn is survived by his wife, Paula; daughter, Lynda (Bob) Trimpe of Bloomington, Ill.; son, Paul (Carolyn) Stewart of Carl Junction, Mo.; daughter Susan (Jeff) Gaines of Springfield, Ill.; and grandchildren, Megan Trimpe, Sarah Trimpe, Alyssa Trimpe, Mary Trimpe, Aaron Stewart, Cara Stewart, Dylan Stewart and Reaney Gaines. Family and friends gathered at the New Market Church of Christ on September 17, 2011, for a memorial service to celebrate the life of Kathy Karg Ohm. Kathy Jayne Karg Ohm was born on March 21, 1959, to Alvin and Eva Brown Karg of New Market, Iowa. She passed away on September 10, 2011, at the Lund Family Home in Gilbert, Arizona, from a rare form of appendix cancer at the age of 52. Kathy grew up in New Market and attended the New Market Church of Christ. She accepted Jesus Christ as her savior and was baptized September 7, 1970. Kathy loved music, and she enjoyed participating in show choir and band as well as theater productions. She graduated from New Market High School in 1977. She attended Iowa Western Community College in Clarinda, Iowa, where she obtained an Associate in Arts degree. For fun, Kathy entered several contests, such as the Taylor County Queen Contest and Miss Southwest Iowa Contest, where she always seemed to place second. Her family teased her about being a second place winner, but when she met Patrick Ohm at IWCC in 1978, she took first place. They were married on October 12, 1980, at the New Market Church of Christ. Two children were born to this union: Bradley Charles on August 16, 1984, and Amanda Leigh on October 9, 1988. Kathy and her family have moved where their careers took them. They began their married life in Illinois, moved to Texas in 1987, then on to Kentucky in 1993, and back to Iowa in 1997. The longest stay has been their most recent, in Arizona, where she loved the warm weather. While in Texas, she continued her education and earned her Bachelors of Arts Degree in Business Information Systems from the University of Texas, El Paso. Kathy found her niche in computer programming, and during her career, she worked for Ashland Oil in Lexington, Kentucky, and Principal Financial in Des Moines, Iowa. After moving to Mesa, Arizona in 2000, she continued her programming career at Wells Fargo Bank where she had been employed for the last 10 years. Kathy has always loved her pets and has been comforted during her illness by two cats, Misty & Scooter and two Shelties, Tobey & Marley. Kathy's children were her pride and joy. Brad graduated from Arizona State University in 2009, and is a Lieutenant in the Air Force, currently stationed in Dayton, Ohio. Brad is engaged to Alex Barlow of Gilbert, Arizona and will be married on November 11, 2011 in Las Vegas, Nevada. Amanda is a student at Mesa Community College studying forensic sciences. Preceding her in death were her father, Alvin Karg in 1974, maternal and paternal grandparents, and other relatives. | 003Lloyd Tino, 75, formerly of Clarinda, passed away at his home in Pleasant Hill, Calif., on September 4, 2011 following a short battle with cancer. Lloyd was born August 23, 1936 to Fred and Emma (Henneman) Tino at their home in East River Township. e was baptized and confirmed at St. John Lutheran Church in Clarinda. He graduated from Clarinda High School and following graduation, he went to California. He served in the Army. Lloyd worked for Pacific Gas and Electric until he took early retirement. On April 18, 1964 he married Gayle Kulik in California. To this union two daughters were born. Preceding him in death were his parents. After graduating Amity High he soon entered the United States Army serving in Berlin Germany. Following his service in the US Army he returned to Iowa and worked for Henry Field Company in Shenandoah. After his employment at Henry Fields he was employed at Lisle Corp in Clarinda retiring there after nearly 20 years of service. He then spent his retirement years in Clarinda and recently lived at Goldenrod Manor in Clarinda. He was preceded in death by his parents, Walter and Gertrude Downing. Wayne Rogers Livingston was born July 6, 1930 to Alexander Livingston and Madge (Rogers) Livingston at North, South Carolina. He had seven siblings. He grew up in Orangeburg, South Carolina and graduated from Orangeburg High School. He continued his education and received a business degree. Wayne was a member of the Army Reserves. He was united in marriage July 13, 1952 in Gainesville, Georgia to Jean Garrick. Wayne was a Certified Public Accountant working for Hygrade Company during the time he was in Clarinda and continued to work for the Sara Lee Corporation. He worked for forty five years, retiring in 1995. Wayne lived in several places including Clarinda until 1977, Livonia, Michigan, Phoenix, Arizona and returning to Clarinda in June of 2011, living at the Eiler House. Wayne was a very caring, giving, quiet man who enjoyed the simple life and his family was very important to him. He was a very hard worker, conscientious of his responsibilities. Wayne loved sports and enjoyed rooting for the University of South Carolina Gamecocks and the Seattle Seahawks and with encouragement from his Clarinda family was becoming an Iowa State Cyclone fan. In earlier years, while living in Clarinda, Wayne was a member of the Lion's Club and Westminster Presbyterian Church. Preceding Wayne in death were his parents; wife, Jean (12/2/1975); siblings, Alec Livingston, Christine Wiggins, Doris Proveaux and Allen Livingston. | 006Dorothe Marie Johnson, 89 of Villisca, Iowa passed away Monday, September 26, 2011 at the Montgomery County Memorial Hospital in Red Oak, Iowa. She was born August 5, 1922 in Villisca, Iowa the daughter of Henry G. Kernen and Mary Jarman Kernen. Dorothe went to country school through 8th grade. She stayed at friends’ homes in Villisca while attending high school and graduated from Villisca High School in 1939. She attended Parsons College in Fairfield, Iowa and began teaching after graduation. She taught in the Grub Ridge, Morton Mills and Findley country schools from 1941 to 1943. She also worked at Cox Produce in Villisca as a bookkeeper. After moving into town she worked part-time at the Villisca Public Library and the Villisca City Hall. On December 3, 1944 she was united in marriage to Stanley Johnson. After moving a few times, they purchased a farm northeast of Villisca where they lived for 25 years. They then built a new house and moved to Villisca. When Dorothe and Stanley were younger they enjoyed dancing, horse racing at Aksarben in Omaha, and later, going to the casinos. Her hobbies included sewing, knitting, latch hook, and jigsaw puzzles. As she got older and began to slow down, she enjoyed reading, crossword puzzles and hand held computer games. Dorothe was a survivor by beating cancer, sustaining many falls, one involving a head injury and another causing a broken hip. She lived the last two years of her life at the Good Samaritan Center in Villisca where she was well taken care of before spending her final days at the Montgomery County Memorial Hospital. She is survived by daughter Jane Johnson of Kansas City, Missouri; son Bob and wife Sue of Omaha, Nebraska; and daughter Ann Murphy of Marshalltown, Iowa; three grandchildren: Matt of San Francisco, California, Molly of Omaha, Nebraska and Staci of Marshalltown, Iowa; two brothers Kenneth and Henry Jr. Kernen; several nieces and nephews. | 007Eleanor Verne Gourley was born January 7, 1918 in Los Angeles, California to Charles and Adeline Francis. She passed away Monday, September 26, 2011 at Good Samaritan Care Center in Villisca, Iowa . Verne married Thomas Charles Gourley in San Francisco on May 6, 1943. After Tom’s discharge from the Navy, they moved to the family farm north of Villisca, where Verne lived until suffering a stroke in 1996. Verne was a homemaker and enjoyed the outdoors and life on the farm. She especially liked the spring of the year when plants and trees came to life and she could begin gardening. Knitting, crocheting and creating craft items occupied her time in the winter months. She was an excellent cook and baker, and used these skills later in life as a cook at the Stanton Care Center. Verne was preceded in death by her parents; her husband and her brother. She is survived by her children: Carolyn Miller and her husband, Mick, of Clarinda, Iowa, Patricia Ewing of Ames, Iowa , Alan Gourley of Villisca, Iowa and Jo Ellen Eros of Tarkio, Missouri; eight grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren. Martha graduated in 1956 from Immanuel Lutheran School of Nursing, Omaha, Nebraska with a Registered Nursing degree. She started working in Clarinda and then moved to Missouri. She retired from Ray County Hospital in Richmond, Missouri as MDS Coordinator in 2001. Martha passed away Saturday, September 24, 2011 at Goldenrod Manor, Clarinda, Iowa. She was preceded in death by her parents, Franklin and Marjorie; husband, Lowell Blank (father of her children); daughter Terri Blank and son Michael Blank. Robert Douglas Terbell was born Sept. 22, 1919 in New Sharon, but moved to Taylor County soon after birth. He was the son of John and Nina (Wainwright) Terbell. Bob spent his childhood on the farm and graduated from Bedford High School in 1937. His lifelong desire for knowledge was further ignited during his travels beyond local boundaries. After graduation he left to work on the racetrack for Ben Jones and Calumet Farms. During this time he traveled the circuit from Chicago to New York to Florida. In 1941 Whirlaway won the Triple Crown for Calumet Farms, Bob was proud to be part of this victory. Bob returned home from the racing circuit, and enlisted in the Army Air Corps, predecessor to the U.S. Air Force, in Oct. of '41. The next 44 months were spent in the service, of which 34 months were spent in England, Italy, and North Africa. His love of learning was greatly expanded as he visited the great pyramids in Egypt and traveled up thru Sicily and into Italy. His military service satisfied his yearning for adventure for many years. Upon returning home in June '45, he worked for the Lisle Corp. a short time and then started his farming partnership, with an aunt and uncle, Eura & Jessie Bradley. Bob met Myrtle Irene Schneider at a dance in Maloy and enjoyed their courtship of 2 years. August 12, 1947, Robert and Myrtle were married in Miami, Oklahoma. To this union there were 3 children born, Patricia Ann Sparks, John Edward Terbell, and Philip L. Terbell. Over the next 40 years Bob was entrenched in progressive farming techniques and practiced land conservation. He took great pride in being a good steward of his land and livestock. Bob slowly stepped into his retirement, where he traveled, enjoyed family, and his friends. Bob and Myrtle have lived all their lives in Taylor County and recently celebrated their 64th wedding anniversary. David was confirmed at Trinity Lutheran Church and attended there most of his life. David graduated from Creston High School with the Class of 1963. David was united in marriage to Patricia Sychra on July 22, 1967. David served at Minot AFB, North Dakota from 1965 to 1969. He also served in the Iowa Air National Guard in Des Moines from 1984 to 2002. David worked as an auto body repair man, gas station attendant and Maintenance Technician for Taygold Co-op. He was a Lenox Volunteer Fireman for twenty-three years and the Lenox American Legion Commander for five years. David enjoyed camping with family and friends, fishing and hunting with his sons, and fixing any vehicle problems his family (daughter) experienced, along with watching his grandchildren's sporting events. Left to cherish David's memory are his loving wife of forty-four years, Pat Stream of Lenox; two sons, Brett Stream of Lenox; and Aric Stream and wife Angie and grandchildren, Palen and Dawson all of Bedford; a daughter, Angelene of West Des Moines; three brothers, Dick and wife Sharon Stream of Afton; Doug and wife Deb Stream of Council Bluffs; and Ormas and wife April Stream of Culver, Oregon; three sisters, Clo and husband Rich Faulkner of Papillion, Nebraska; Cindy Isdahl of Placerville, California; and Linda Stream of Creston; along with many other relatives and friends. | 012Robert E. Warneke died Sept. 21, 2011 at his home in Weslaco, Texas. He was born June 22, 1927 at Bedford, Iowa. Robert served during World War II in the Pacific. After he returned in 1947 he farmed south of Bedford, Iowa. He and his wife, the former Eula Lee Smith, had two sons, William Robert and Timothy Lee. They farmed for 29 years. Later he enjoyed working seven months a year in Nebraska, with Thorobred Horse Racing, until he retired at age 70. He enjoyed winters traveling and fishing off Alabama, Florida and Texas. In 2003 they moved permanently to Weslaco, Texas to be near their grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents August H. and Vera Van Camp Warneke, and his two sons, William and Tim. Besides his wife Eula of the home, he leaves William’s widow Celia Warneke and her children, Arye and wife Marisol and children Robert, Katelyn and Elizabeth of San Antonio, TX; Aaryn and wife Kathy and children Mathew August, Addison and Austin of Weslaco, TX and granddaughter Tanya and her sons John Mabry 3rd and William Weber also of Weslaco, TX. Darrell worked at NSK in Clarinda for 28 years. He was united in marriage to Rayla Moyer February 13, 1987 at Elmo, MO. He worked handyman jobs including milking at his uncle’s dairy farm, clerking at the State Line in Braddyville, running a restaurant in Clearmont. His hobbies included antiquing, and anything to do with hunting, fishing and trapping. Outdoors was where you could find Darrell in his spare time. Darrell passed away at his home in Elmo Monday, September 19, 2011 following an extended illness. | 014Linda Louise (Martin) Oline was born November 7, 1939 in Clarinda, Iowa, the daughter of Raymond and Lavina (Smith) Jackson. She passed away on Saturday evening, September 17, 2011 at the Clarinda Regional Health Center in Clarinda, Iowa at the age of 71 years, 10 months and 10 days. Linda grew up in Clarinda and graduated from Clarinda High School in 1958. She later attended Stewart’s School of Cosmetology. On March 5, 1961 she was united in marriage to Norval Oline in Las Vegas, Nevada. This union was blessed with two children, Kory and Kody. Linda was the receptionist for Dr. Zehr’s office in Clarinda for 17 years. She was a member of the Red Hat Society and the American Legion Auxiliary. Her family was the true joy of her life, especially her grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents; a sister, Joy Jackson; and her grandmother, Pearl Smith. Survivors include her husband, Norval Oline of Clarinda, Iowa; her children, Kory Oline and his wife Angie of Kansas City, Missouri, Kody Green and her husband Lonnie, Jr. of Olathe, Kansas; four grandchildren, Jakob and Jakson Green, and Jaeden and Tara Cordes; a sister, Peggy Otte and her husband Dennis of Clarinda, Iowa; a nephew, Darin Otte of Afganistan; a niece, Angie Wesselink and her husband Troy of Newton, Iowa; along with many other relatives and friends. Graveside services were held at 1:00 p.m. on Wednesday, September 21, 2011 at the Clarinda Cemetery with Lonnie Green, Jr. officiating. Burial was in the Clarinda Cemetery. Chad Alan Martin was born June 30, 1972 at Clarinda, Iowa to Rodney Martin and Cheryle Henneman Martin. He joined siblings Randy, Lisa and Lori Martin. Chad, Randy and their Father Rodney were baptized in 1972 at Trinity Lutheran Church in Shenandoah, IA. The family lived in Shenandoah and Denison before settling in Atlantic, Iowa in 1976. Chad attended Washington Elementary school, Schuler Junior High School before graduating from Atlantic High School in May 1991. As a youngster Chad played baseball with the Atlantic Little League. Chad was picked on by his two sisters, as siblings do, but he loved every minute of it. In high school he went out for track, played Football and enjoyed Chorus. Following his highschool years, Chad served his country, enlisting in the National Guard for a short time. He moved to Louisiana where he met and married Tiffanny August 22, 1998. December 9, 1999, beloved daughter, Bailyn Nikole, was born and May 4, 2001, precious son, Brandon Lee Alan was born. His children were the delight of his life. While in Louisiana Chad worked on oil fields as an inspector of welds. He was passionate and dedicated to his career. In 2006 Chad returned to Iowa and lived in Cedar Rapids, Iowa working again as an inspector. He recently relocated to Johnston, Iowa to live with his mother and father |
| 016Alfred E. “Andy” “Alf” Anderson, passed away in Jacksonville, FL on Tuesday, September 13, 2011. He was born in Iowa City, IA on April 1, 1936, son to the late August and Alta (Canon) Anderson, and grew up in Bedford, IA. After graduating from Bedford High School in 1954 he enlisted in the USAF and served a time in Viet Nam. He retired from the Air Force in 1974. In 1956 he became the “Devoted Husband’ to Joyce Wallace of Clarinda, IA. In 1957 their daughter Kathy was born in Wichita, KS. He attended the University of Nebraska at Omaha, NE, receiving his Bachelors Degree in Business in 1974. He then served as Materials Management Director for several hospitals, retiring in 2000 from Great Plains Regional Medical Center in North Platte, NE. In 2001 Alf and Joyce moved to Dunnellon, FL. He is survived by his Beloved Wife of 55 years, Joyce, daughter Kathy Anderson and granddaughter, Yumiko Fujinari-Bray, both of Oregon; four siblings and many nieces and nephews. Colter was born July 9, 1921 in Elmo, Missouri the son of Elza and Alma Colter. He grew up attending school in Hopkins, Missouri and entered the United States Army during World War II serving from 1943 to 1946. Harold served in the Pacific on the front lines of Saipan, Guam, and Okinawa. He spent thirteen months hospitalized from being wounded in action on Okinawa on May 25, 1945. He received several medals along with the Purple Heart. He was united in marriage to Barbara L. Robinson of Conway on May 18, 1947 in Maryville, Missouri. Harold spent forty years in Glendale, California in the building business before moving back to Iowa. He was a life member of the DAV, American Legion, VFW and Carpenters Local 209. Harold and Barbara spent thirteen years collecting and buying gifts for the mentally disabled residents of California State Hospitals. He and his wife were widely traveled in the USA and Canada and the Pacific Islands. They spent many winters in Hawaii and Australia. Harold and Barbara have been residents of Ankeny since 1994. Preceding Harold in death are his parents Elza and Alma Colter; a sister Agnes Oxley, all former residents of Bedford, Iowa and a sister-in-law Florence Robinson formerly of Lenox. Left to cherish Harold's memory his loving wife Barbara Colter of Ankeny; a sister-in-law Maxine Allbee, along with several nieces, nephews, relatives and friends. | 018Mable Dorothy Dahlgren Green was born on August 13, 1916 in McCombe, Missouri, the daughter of Victor and Lucy Dahlgren. Mable entered into the arms of her Lord on October 2, 2011 in Shenandoah, Iowa. During Mable’s younger years the family traveled the Midwest and settled in Hamburg, Iowa. In 1936 Mable moved to California with friends where she resided for 2 years. Mable then returned to Hamburg and married Roy Green on March 6, 1940. Roy and Mable farmed and worked in the communities of Hamburg, Sioux City, and Shenandoah until 1950 when they purchased a farm north of Shenandoah. During her working years Mable was employed by Dekalb Seed and Corn and Henry Fields Nursery. After retiring Roy and Mable enjoyed traveling. The couple were long-time members of the Shenandoah Assembly of God Church. Mable was blessed to reside on her beloved farm until 2 weeks prior to her passing. What a remarkable accomplishment! She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband Roy; daughter-in-law Joan Green; 8 siblings Russell Dahlgren, Paul Dahlgren, Ruth Moody, Faye Campbell, Okla Dahlgren, Ethel Morlock Brazile and a pair of twins who died at birth. | 019Louis E. O’Brien, was born on December 5, 1917 in rural Imogene, Iowa the son of Matthew and Genevieve (Kennedy) O’Brien. Louis entered into eternal rest on September 30, 2011 at the Shenandoah Medical Center, at the blessed age of 93 years. Louis lived most of his life in the Imogene and Shenandoah area. He attended Rice and Shenandoah schools. On December 4, 1946 he was united in marriage to Jean Rose at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Shenandoah. The couple was blessed with the birth of one daughter, Barbara Ann. Louis farmed nearly all of his life near Imogene. He also worked for the Page County ASCS in Clarinda for over 17 years and for some 4 years he worked as a Compliance Supervisor for 12 county offices for the State of Iowa. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather. He was preceded in death by his parents; sister Mary; brothers John, Bill, Eugene, Ambrose, Gerald, Robert and Maurice; son-in-law Larry Nielson; and daughter Barbara Nielsen. | 020Russell “Rusty” Charles Giese was born January 31, 1954 in Fort Dodge, Iowa to Bernard Robert Giese and Ardyce Joann Giese. Rusty entered into rest on September 20, 2011 at his home. Rusty moved to Shenandoah when he was two years old. He graduated from Shenandoah High School with the Class of 1972. He continued his education at Southwestern Community College where he received a certification in 1973. He later took classes at Iowa Western Community College with his daughter Hali. Rusty worked at Nishna Valley Lumber. Rusty then joined the family business, Gambles and worked there for 32 years until the store closed. He was currently employed at Dollar General in Shenandoah. He enjoyed working with the public and always had a smile on his face. Rusty enjoyed riding motorcycles, golfing, playing his new guitar and spending time with his friends at Kaps. Rusty was a terrific handy man and was always willing to help out a friend in need. Although Rusty loved his motorcycle, if you asked anyone, he would say, his most prized possession would be his daughter Hali. The two of them had a special bond, that not even death can separate. Rusty was preceded in death by his grandparents Russell Roy Giese, Juanita Marie Giese, Charles Henry Durschmidt and Anna Johanna Durschmidt. | 021Neva Bianca Hartman was born June 10, 1912 in Rock Port, Missouri, the daughter of Frank Sheridan and Edna Marian (Underwood) Downing. She passed away on Wednesday evening, October 5, 2011 at the Shenandoah Medical Center at the age of 99 years, 3 months and 26 days. Neva grew up near Tarkio, Missouri and graduated from Tarkio High School. She later attended Tarkio College for two years. On June 28, 1936, she was united in marriage to Floyd Eugene Hartman in St. Joseph, Missouri. Following her marriage she moved to Shenandoah, Iowa and later to Spencer, Iowa for six years. At that time she returned to Shenandoah. She worked as a secretary for Squires and later for Earl May Seed & Nursery. She was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Shenandoah, the Shenandoah Memorial Hospital Auxiliary and did volunteer work at the hospital. Her true love was golf. She was a member of the American Legion Country Club as well as the Ladies Golf Association, where she held all the offices over the years. Neva also wrote a golf column for the local paper for 12 years. She covered accomplished golf events as well as humorous golf items. She also loved animals, especially her dogs Sonya and Annie. She was preceded in death by her parents and her husband, Floyd, and a brother-in-law, Harry McClure. | 022Naomi Marie Headley was born September 18, 1935 in Elliott, Iowa, the daughter of Alf and Inez (Fisher) Swanson. She crossed over on Saturday, September 24, 2011 at the Hospice with Heart House in Glenwood, Iowa at the age of 76 years and 6 days. Naomi grew up in rural Montgomery County and graduated from Stanton High School in 1953. On April 8, 1956, she was united in marriage to Raymond Headley in Stanton, Iowa. This union was blessed with two children, Tracy and Tamara (Tammy). Following their marriage, they traveled throughout the United States while Raymond served in the Air Force. In the early 1970’s, Ray and Naomi settled in Shenandoah. Naomi worked for J.C. Penney for about 10 years and then worked for Howard’s Clothing for 26 years until her health forced her to leave in May of 2011. She was a very active member of the First Baptist Church in Shenandoah. Naomi touched many children’s lives through her teaching Sunday School. She also enjoyed quilting, collecting Beanie Babies and shopping. The true love of her life was her family. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband Raymond; a brother, Darwin Swanson; and a brother-in-law, Larry Headley. Sarah LaVee Misner (nee Hollingsworth) was born on May 22, 1927 in Ridgefarm, Illinois, the third child of Ura and Alice (nee Garrison) Hollingsworth. She graduated from Ridgefarm High School and then completed further school to become a beautician. She met the 'love of her life', John Owen Misner on a blind date and married him on his birthday, August 1, 1947. Sarah and John produced a family of 9 children: Dennis, Martin (Marty), Larry, Teresa, Ruby, William (Billy), Sandra (Sandy), Johnny and Laura (deceased). Sarah started out her married life on a farm and later moved into Collison, Illinois when John started his carpentry career. Here, Sarah was able to start her own hairdressing business while raising 6 young children. John and Sarah decided to move their young family to greener pastures in California, but a snow storm forced them back to family in Creston, Iowa where they decided to settle. They eventually bought a small home in Kent, Iowa and here she added three more children to her brood of 6. Throughout her life Sarah continued to dabble in hairdressing, but most of her time was spent raising her 8 children. She worked side by side for many years with her husband, John, building houses across many states and became very proficient with the use of a drop saw. As life progressed, Sarah took on a job as a cook at the Shamrock restaurant in Creston, Iowa. She later moved to work as a cook at the Windrow restaurant where her craft in making pies, sweet rolls and soups became well known and enjoyed by many. In all the years that she had these various jobs, she managed to harvest a very large garden, cooking and canning. Her tomato juice, grape juice, corn, green beans, beets, grape jelly, blackberry jams and pickles were enjoyed all year round. When her children came home for visits they always left her home with an armful of canned goods. Sarah was a hard working woman, who never gave up or complained. She had a strong quiet will and provided her family with an over abundance of love. She had an infectious sense of humor that followed her throughout her life and she was known to be quite "cheeky", keeping her audience giggling at her quick, short funny remarks. Everyone who came to know Sarah described her as a "sweetie" and enjoyed her company. |

Isabelle was a devoted mother and homemaker along with many years of painting and wallpapering, and also worked for a time at the Corning Motel. She was a wonderful cook, loved to bake pies and won many ribbons at county fairs and governor's choice. She also loved square dancing, music, cats and of course grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Her whole face would light up when she was holding one of those babies. | 025Shirley A. Allbee, age 78, of Red Oak, Iowa, passed away Tuesday, September 27, 2011 at her home after an extended illness. Shirley Ann Allbee was born January 17, 1933 in Shenandoah, Iowa the daughter of Hubert and Hazel (Rhoads) Jones. She graduated from Shenandoah High School and later married Cecil Travis. Two children were born to this union: Edward and Allen. Shirley was later united in marriage to Richard Allbee on October 8, 1967 in Shenandoah, Iowa. She worked at Woolworth’s while in Shenandoah. Shirley and Richard moved to Red Oak in 1975 where she worked for Spurgeons, Turner Trucking, Batten Sanitation, and most recently CDS. Shirley was a member of the First Christian Church and volunteered much of her time to making mittens for the school kids and other organizations. She loved knitting and crocheting and spending time with her family. She was known to be very loving and was a very generous person. Preceding her in death were her parents and a sister: Janet Jones. Mr. M.L. (Spud) Puckett 89, of Maryville, MO passed away Friday, October 7, 2011 at Heartland Hospital in St. Joseph, MO. Spud was born in Drover, KS on June 19, 1922 to Ralph Sylvester and Vida Marie Puckett, they preceded him death, he was also preceded in death by his wife, Helen Lemore James in 1973, his son, Marion Eugene Puckett in 1998, and by his siblings Marguerite, Donna, Jimmy, Bill, and Cory Madera. Spud moved to the Maryville area 70 years ago from Kansas, he worked as an attendant for many years at the Gray Oil & Gasoline Company. Spud enjoyed visiting with his friends at the morning coffee group at Hy-Vee. On October 9, 1942 Spud joined the Army Air Corp and served during World War II. Survivors include his two sons, John David (Beverly) Puckett, Independence, MO and Ronald Eugene Puckett, Independence, MO. daughter, Sherry (Matt) Gaarder, Maryville, MO. Marsha Ann Schwab 62, of Maryville, MO passed away Saturday, October 1, 2011 at a nursing home in Maryville after a long illness. Marsha was born on February 18, 1949 in Seattle WA., to Ralph Alex and Ruth Ann Naylor Parmeley, they preceded her in death. She was a resident of this area for the past 18 years, and was formerly of San Diego, CA. Marsha loved books and to read, she enjoyed traveling abroad, and to play cards. She was an artist and produced beautiful sculptures and paintings, and as a school girl had one of her paintings on display in Japan. She was devoted to and loved her family very much. Marsha also enjoyed helping as a volunteer with the Parnell Missouri fire department. She was also a Christian. Marsha obtained her nursing degree and worked as a LPN for several years, and had also worked in medical records. Left to mourn her passing are her children, son, James (Jacqueline) West, Maryville, MO, 2 daughters, Roxanna (Todd) Lancaster, St. Joseph, MO., and Michelle (Raimonds Zelcs) Parmeley, Stuttgart, Germany. Phyllis Jean Trueblood 85, of Maryville, MO and formerly of the Pickering MO area passed away peacefully on September 28, 2011 at her son’s home in Maryville. Phyllis Jean was born on April 7, 1926 in Pickering, MO to Doyle and Mildred (Bosch) Moore. She was a lifetime resident of this area, a homemaker, and a member of the United Methodist Church, Pickering, MO. On June 23, 1946, Phyllis Jean was united in marriage to Earl Warren Trueblood in Pickering, MO., he preceded her in death on July 29, 1966. She was also preceded in death by her parents, and her brother, Marlis Dean Moore. She was born December 05, 1921, in Stanberry, Missouri to the late Charles William and Cora M. Jones Ballard. A graduate of Stanberry High School, she was a Homemaker. She married Donald Chester Taylor , November 20, 1941, in Sacramento, California. Mary Lou Schieber, 71, of Maryville, Missouri (formerly of Conception Junction, Missouri) passed away Wednesday, October 5, 2011 at St Francis Hospital, Maryville. Mary Lou was born November 7, 1939 in Atchison, Kansas the daughter of Paul and Anna Lucille (Hill) Cicewski. She graduated from Mount Saint Scholastica Academy in Atchison and she received her RN degree from Sisters Hospital School of Nursing in St Joseph, Missouri. Mary Lou worked there several years after graduation, becoming a Nursing Supervisor of the 3-11pm shift. While at Sister’s Hospital she met Lawrence Joseph “Butch” Schieber. They were married on July 19, 1969 in Atchison, Kansas and moved to his farm in the Conception Community. Mary Lou began working at the Conception Abbey Infirmary, Conception, Missouri. In her seventeen years of service there, she became the Director of Health Services for Conception Abbey and Conception Seminary College. She was also homemaker and a member of St Gregory Barbarigo Catholic Community Maryville. She was preceded in death by her parents. Raymond J Schuster, 91, of Maryville, Missouri passed away, Tuesday, October 4, 2011, at St Francis Hospital, Maryville. Raymond was born November 3, 1919 in Pilot Grove, Missouri, the son of Francis Joseph and Effie Mary (Martin) Schuster. He was a graduate of Conception High School, Conception, Missouri; Raymond attended Conception College for one year. He enlisted in the US Navy in September of 1942, serving until December of 1945 when he was discharged with the rank of Lieutenant. Raymond had married Gertrude Margaret Brady on June 5, 1943 in Conception, Missouri.
After WWII, Raymond worked for Price Funeral Home in the Furniture and Floor Covering Department. He received a BS in Secondary Education from Northwest Missouri State University and worked toward his Masters Degree at the University of Missouri, Kansas City. An educator, he began teaching in the Mitchellville, Iowa school system in 1950 and received his Masters in Education from Drake University, Des Moines, Iowa. Mr. Schuster was the Superintendent of Schools for the Jefferson C-123 School District at Conception Junction, Missouri from 1952-1970 when he moved to the Maryville R II School District to become the Principal of the Washington Middle School until June 30, 1987 when he retired. He was a member of St Gregory Barbarigo Catholic Community, Maryville and Missouri Retired Teachers Association. He was preceded in death by his wife: Gertrude on March 7, 1996; his parents; brothers: Fr. Philip Schuster, OSB; Herman, Leonard, Ralph and Richard Schuster ; sisters: Bernadine Vollmer, Christina Stallone, Sr. Flora Schuster, OSB, Mary Helen Jedlicka, Margaret Stoecklein Sr. Regina Schuster OSB and Effie Selby. Kenneth Lewis Davison, 75, Maryville, Missouri, died Sunday, October 02, 2011, at his home in Maryville, Missouri. He was born December 27, 1935, in Hopkins, Missouri to Harlan Rolla and Hilda Elizabeth Mendenhall Davison. Kenneth married Joyce Yvonne Schmitt, September 08, 1957, in Gallatin, Missouri. His education included Excelsior Rural School, Hopkins High School 1953 Graduate, University of Missouri, Columba, BS in Agriculture 1957, Iowa State University, Ames, Master's and PhD in Animal Nutrition 1961,and Cornell University, Ithaca, New York, Post Graduate 1961-1965. Kenneth was a member of the Maryville First Christian Church, Past member Nodaway County Community Building Board, Food Pantry Volunteer and Hopkins Historical Society President 1998-2011. He was preceded in death by his parents, a brother-in-law Bill Dallas and one nephew Michael Hodge. Lorena Abels Stoll, 95 Maryville, Missouri passed away Friday, September 30, 2011 at St Francis Hospital, Maryville.
Lorena was born February 3, 1916 in Conception, Missouri, the daughter of Jacob and Martha (King) Abels. She married Robert James Stoll October 29, 1939 in St Joseph, Missouri.
A homemaker, Lorena was a member of St Gregory Barbarigo Catholic Community, St Gregory’s Guild, The Bowling Association of Maryville and Widowed Persons of Maryville, Missouri.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Bob (September 25, 1990); her parents; brothers: Peter “Pete” Abels and Leonard Abels; sisters: Nora Zirfas, Regina Luke, Elizabeth Clawson, Pauline McClary and Mary Benninghaus.
Lorena is survived by many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
A 7 pm Family Rosary is Saturday, October 1, 2011 at Price Funeral Home, Maryville, Missouri.

Rosalie Dawson, 93, Maryville, died at St. Francis Hospital Wednesday, September 28, 2011.
Alice Rosalie Busby was born to David Dean and Sylvia Mae (Garriott) Busby December 13, 1917, in Powersville, Missouri. The family returned to Maryville in 1921.
Rosalie was the oldest of three girls who all attended Swallow School, Maryville High School, and all graduated from Northwest Missouri State University. Rosalie taught in one-room schools at Peace and Harmony and Gaynor for three years before having a family.
Rosalie met the love of her life, Douglas Dawson, at age 16. They married May 28, 1941, and enjoyed 54 years of marriage until his death in 1995.
She belonged to the Rockford Community Club, the First United Methodist Church, and a Wednesday morning coffee club. She enjoyed playing cards, especially pitch and pinochle, and played in different groups through the years. She also enjoyed reading, knitting dish cloths, covering hangers and, always a favorite, crossword puzzles. Rosalie was a 20-year breast cancer survivor.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Douglas, her parents, and her sister Marles Dean Milbank.
Rosalie leaves to cherish her memory her sons and wives, Gary and Raylee Dawson, Melbourne, Australia, and Ron and Barbara Dawson, Independence, Missouri, as well as grandchildren and great-grandchildren Martine and John Carmichael and children Jack, Max, and Olivia; David and Ryoko Dawson and children Roki and Lia Rose, all of Melbourne; Douglas and Kristine Dawson and children Ahren and Evan of Madison, Wisconsin; and Christopher (Kit) Dawson of Kansas City, Missouri.
She also leaves her beloved sister, Ilah Mae Horton, and her husband Lewis of Lincoln, Illinois, and much loved brother-in-law Byron Milbank, Maryville, along with several loved nieces and nephews.
In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts may be made to the Maryville (Missouri) Public Library.
Services will be held at 2 P.M. Monday, October 3 at the Price Funeral Home, Maryville, Missouri. Family visitation will be from 1-2 P.M. prior to the services. Burial will be in the Miriam Cemetery, Maryville, Missouri |

Edna M. Duewer of Pickering, MO, formerly of Waverly, IL peacefully went home to heaven Wednesday September 28th, 2011. She was born September 3, 1919. She married Clarence O. Duewer in December 1940. He preceded her in death in June 1987.
She lived in central IL until 1995, moved to Greeley, CO near her daughter Marie. She moved to Pickering and lived with her daughter and husband until her death.
She is survived by one son, Dan (companion Jean Hoke) of Waverly, IL, one daughter, Marie Walsh (husband Ralph) of Pickering, MO. 8 grandchildren 16 great grandchildren, and 6 great great grandchildren.
She will be buried in Waverly, IL. There will be a memorial service at Hope Lutheran church in Maryville, MO on October 10th at 2pm |

Mabel Kathryn “Kay” Forney, 90, of Maryville, Missouri (formerly of Hopkins, Missouri) passed away, Monday, September 26, 2011 at Nodaway Nursing Home, Maryville. Kay was born August 9, 1921 in Phillips County, Kansas, the daughter of Luther and Lillian (Wachs) Gould. She graduated from High School and she received a Teachers’ Certificate in Phillipsburg, Kansas. Kay married Chalmers Franklin Forney on July 8, 1942 in Troy, Kansas. A homemaker, she was a member of the Hopkins Christian Church and the Hilltop Club of Hopkins. Preceding her in death were her husband, Chalmers, on December 4, 1983; her parents; brothers: Willard and Phillip Gould; sister: Lois Struthers and granddaughter: Terri Carver. | 038Dorene Elizabeth Gould Gray was born in Taylor County, Iowa on March 16, 1921, the only daughter of Roy W. and Ada M. Gould. Dorene passed away on October 16, 2011 at the Crown Care Center in Harrisonville Missouri. She grew up in rural Taylor County and graduated with a teaching certificate from Bedford High School in 1938. She taught in a couple of rural schools, including the “Skinner” school in the Nodaway Township. She married Max L. Gray on February 13, 1943 and followed him to Texas for Army training, and then returned home upon Max’s deployment to Europe during WWII. They farmed the Carpenter farm in Guss, Iowa for over forty years, until Max’s death in 1994. While her passion was helping Max with their farm, Dorene did work in several off-farm jobs in Bedford and Clarinda (Hawley Drug, Bordeoux, Turners, Style Shop, and Lucas Clothing). She was active in the UMW at the Maple Grove Methodist Church and neighborhood clubs in the Guss area. After their children were grown, Dorene and Max took up square dancing and enjoyed going dancing on Saturday nights with their square dance club. After Max’s passing, she moved to an apartment in Bedford where she enjoyed visiting with friends, going out for pizza, walking, crocheting, sewing, playing dominos, and visits from her children and grandchildren. In 2003, Dorene moved to Harrisonville MO to be closer to her son and his family for health reasons. She lived the past five years at Crown Care Center in Harrisonville, where she was loved by the staff and residents and will be remembered for her smile and quiet ways. Preceding Dorene in death were her parents, husband Max, and only sibling, Russell, as well as many other loved ones. Remaining to cherish Dorene’s memory are her children: Linda (Mike) Parks of Madison, South Dakota and Bill (Susan) Gray of Archie Missouri; six grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; sister-in-laws: Thelma (Jack) Stamps, Rena (Bob) Gray, Lois (Donald) Trybom and Maxine Gould; and many friends. Dorene’s sweet spirit and loving smile will always be remembered. Her greatest legacy was her unconditional love for her family which was shown through her hard work, dedication and abiding love.
