The Clerk of the Circuit Court, Division I, has all criminal (felony cases) and civil (including divorces) cases that have been filed since 1845. A few adoption records can be found in the land records.
The Recorder of Deeds maintains all marriage and land records from 1845. This office also maintains the Military Records for Nodaway County, which includes some Civil War discharges and then the Military Records jump to World War I to the present. The birth/death records from about 1883-1893 of Nodaway County as well as the microfilm of school records from the 1920's and 1930's are in the keeping of the Recorder of Deeds.
The Clerk of the Circuit Court, Probate Division, maintains all probate
and guardianship cases since 1845. The Clerk of the Circuit Court,
Division II, has all civil (small claims, collections, etc.) and criminal
(misdemeanor) that are on record since 1845. My personal suggestion
for searching the records from the Division I Court, would be to contact
Letha Marie Mowry for the
name of someone that could search these records. This is an extremely
busy court and to be honest with you, they just don't have the time.
Beth Hann, County Clerk, at the Courthouse address above. The County Clerk has the voter registration records, county maps etc. Please note that the County Clerk is not associated with the Circuit Clerk. These are two separate entities.
Carolyn Protzman is the Clerk of the Circuit Court, Probate Division. Carolyn will do everything she can to accommodate your requests. However, please just one search at a time as she is the sole clerk in the Probate Court. All inquiries should be addressed to her at the Courthouse Annex address shown above.
The Recorder's Office will also lookup information, in writing only. As with the Probate Court requests, please keep your request to one search at a time. If you are searching a very common name such as Smith, Jones, etc., please provide them with as much information as possible. Requests should be addressed to the Sandy Smail, Nodaway County Recorder, 305 N. Main, Room 104.
PLEASE, when requesting information from any of the County offices, include a SELF-ADDRESSED STAMPED ENVELOPE. Photo copies of documents are $1.00 per page for UNCERTIFIED copies.
