Services for David H. Golay, age 82 were held Tuesday, August 8, at Wolfe Funeral Home in Villisca, Iowa. Mr. Golay was born November 18, 1912 to Joseph Lee and Edith Bradley Golay in Lorimor. He passed away Sunday, August 6, 1995, at Vista Garden Care Center in Red Oak, where he had been a resident for three years.
He spent much of his time as a youth in the Maryville, Missouri area and enlisted in the military service in 1940. He married Louanna Stalling January 19, 1942. Following his discharge from the Army, he worked for Omaha Cold Storage in Villisca [Iowa] for two years and then worked at the Legion Club for two years. He retired from Union Carbide in 1976 after 26 years of employment.
Survivors include his wife; two daughters, Mary Lee Sharp and husband, Glen of Bedford and Linda Golay of Clarinda; four grandchildren; five great grandchildren; three brothers, Albert Golay of Coleman, South Dakota, Joseph Golay of Lemont, Florida, and George Golay of Cedar Rapids; two sisters, Alice Garvin of Des Moines, and Doris Hogberg of Red Oak; two brothers-in-law, Kenneth Hanna of Moberly, Missouri and Orville Anderson of Tingley. Gray, Quentin Hubert - Quentin Hubert Gray, 87, Springfield, formerly of Maryville, died Thursday, May 14, 2009, at Cox South Medical Center, Springfield.
Services were held Monday, May 18, at the First United Methodist Church, Maryville, with the Rev. Tom Sullenger officiating. Burial was in the Miriam Cemetery, Maryville.

Graham, Sarah Jane VanSickle - Mrs Sarah Jane Graham, 78 years old, who resided six miles southwest of Elmo, died at 7 o'clock this morning at the Martin Landfather hospital following an illness of six months. She had been a patient at the hospital since October 4, 1943.

Mrs Graham was born December 3, 1865, southwest of Burlington Junction, the daughter of the late Mr and Mrs Andrew J. VanSickle. She was married March 27, 1888, at Maryville, to Charles Edward Graham.

Besides her husband she is survived by one son, Floyd Graham, Elmo; two sisters, Mrs H.L. Kenny and Mrs Susie Browning, Elmo; three brothers, Z.T. VanSickle and A.H. VanSickle, Elmo, and E.N. VanSickle, Maryville; two grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

Funeral services probably will be conducted at 1:30 o'clock Saturday afternoon at the Methodist church in Elmo. Burial will be in the High Prairie cemetery.

Guenther, Ethel Louise -

Ethel Louise Guenther, 87, Clarinda, IA, died Tuesday, May 5, 2009, at Village Care Center, Maryville [Missouri]. She was born November 2, 1921, at Clarinda, the daughter of George I. Guenther and Harriet Cox Guenther. She attended high school for three years at Los Angeles Pacific College, Los Angeles, CA, and graduated from Clarinda High School in 1939. She was employed at the Clarinda courthouse in the Page County recorder and treasurer offices from 1939 to 1952 and was the deputy county treasurer. She was then employed from 1952 to 1956 with North American Aviation, Inc., Downey, CA, as an engineering clerk and from 1956 to 1980 at the United States Department of Foreign Service as a foreign service reserve officer in communications. She served 16 years in private industry and 24 years in foreign service overseas. She served as communications officer at diplomatic missions located in Iran, Belgium, Afghanistan, Germany, Indonesia, Norway, Liberia, Ecuador, Yugoslavia, Libya and Barbados. Following her retirement, she lived in Texas, California and returned to Clarinda in May, 2000. Proceeding her in death were her parents; siblings, Rocene, Irene, Gilbert, Irvin, Fred Hugh and Harriett. She is survived by many nieces, nephews and other relatives. Graveside memorial services were held Saturday, May 9, at the Clarinda Cemetery, Clarinda, with Rev. Robert Bell and George Guenther officiating. Burial was in the Clarinda Cemetery. John B. Goforth Dies: Funeral to Be Tuesday

John B. Goforth, 88-year-old carpenter of Barnard, died at 11 o'clock Saturday night at the St Francis hospital after a lingering illness.

Mr Goforth was born November 11, 1860, in Indiana, the son of Ed and Lavina Horner Goforth. On December 3, 1882, he was married to Louisa Van Fossan, who died March 14, 1943. He was a resident of Barnard 44 years.

Survivors include two daughters, Mrs Marie Schmitt, Barnard, and Mrs Floy House, Bolckow; four sons, Ed Goforth, Guilford; Leslie Goforth, Noel; Jack Goforth, Otho, Ia., and Harold Goforth, Maryville; two brothers, Sam Goforth, Fairfield, Mont., and Everett Goforth, Calhan, Colo., 26 grandchildren and 25 great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be conducted at 2 o'clock Tuesday afternoon at the Church of Christ, Barnard. Burial will be in the Barnard cemetery. The body was taken to the Campbell funeral home.

Gillenwater, William "Bud" - William "Bud" Gillenwater, 79, Barnard, died Monday, March 11, 1991 at his residence.

Born in Forbes, Mo., Mr Gillenwater had lived in Barnard, Mo., since 1966. He was a retired heavy equipment operator for Ideker Construction Co., of Mound City, Mo., and Kelley & Rickman Construction Co., in Savannah, Mo.

In 1937, he married the former Agnes Swearingen. She died in 1989.

Mr Gillenwater also was preceded in death by a son, Jerry, in 1985.

Survivors include two sons, Donald and Paul, both of Bolckow, Mo; three daughters, JoAnn White and Betty Hilsenbeck, both of Barnard, and Peggy Tanner of Amazonia, Mo; nine granchildren; and six great-grandchildren.

Arrangements are pending at Breit & Hawkins Funeral Home in Savannah, Mo.

Gillenwater, Betty J. Gelvin - Betty J. Gillenwater, 66, Mound City, died Thursday, March 4, 1993, at Community Hospital, Fairfax [Missouri].

She was born Oct 4, 1926 in Holt County to Samuel L. and Mina Mae Patton Gelvin. She was a lifetime resident of Holt County where she attended school. She married Garlen "Bunny" Gillenwater at Forest City on April 15, 1942. He died in 1991.

Mrs Gillenwater moved to Forest City following her marriage and had been a resident of Mound City since the 1950s. She was a member of the Nazarene Church in Mound City.

She was preceded in death by a son, Garlen Gillenwater Jr; a sister; and a brother. Survivors include two sons, Kenneth Gillenwater, Bigelow, and Gary Gillenwater, St Petersburg, Fla; two sisters, Dorothy Lease, Coolidge, Ariz, and Thelma McKenzie, Fairfax; seven grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.

Funeral services were held March 7 at Pettijohn & Crawford Funeral Home, Mound City. The Rev Steve Long officiated. Burial was in Mount Hope Cemetery, Mound City.

Pallbearers were Dale Gechter, Terry Simmonds, Raymond Rauch, Bob Sipes, Sonny Hughes, and Ralph McCurry.

Gillenwater, Garlen "Bunny" - Garlen "Bunny" Gillenwater, 76, Mound City, died Tuesday, Dec 10, 1991, at a hospital in Leavenworth, Kans.

He was born Nov 2, 1915, in Forbes to Frank and Hattie Walker Gillenwater. Mr Gillenwater was a lifelong resident of Holt County. He married Betty Gelvin in Forest City in 1942.

He was an Army veteran of World War II, later moving to Mound City in the 1950s. Mr Gillenwater worked for Ideker Construction Co. and also operated a heavy eqipment and trucking business in Mound City.

Mr Gillenwater was preceded in death by a son, Garlen Jr in 1983; a brother, Raymond; a sister, Alta Hughes; a half brother, Brady Guyer; and two stepbrothers, Theral and Gilbert Guyer. Survivors include his wife of the home; two sons, Kenneth Gillenwater of Big Lake Village, and Gary Gillenwater of St Petersburg, Floa; seven grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held Friday, Dec 13, at Pettijohn & Crawford Funeral Home, Mound City. Rev Merrill Ferguson will officiate. Burial will be in Mount Hope Cemetery, Mound City.

Gillenwater, Maxine Buckler - Maxine Gillenwater, 82, Maryville, died Monday, Feb 14, 1994 at Parkdale Manor Nursing Home, Maryville.

Born Feb 12, 1912 in Crookston, Minn to R.T. and Addie Ball Buckler, she was a retired secretary to the inspector General, Departement of Agriculture, Kansas City.

She married David R. Gillenwater, Aug 16, 1941 in Washington, D.C.

MsGillenwater was a graduate of Crookston High School, Crookston, Minn.

She was preceded in death by her husband; one brother; and four sisters.

Survivors include one son, David R. Gillenwater, Bolckow.

Ms Gillenwater's body will be cremated and she has requested there be no Memorial Services for her.

Memorials may be made to the Salvation Army.
