Lager, August J., 88, Scottsbluff, Neb., died Thursday, Sept. 21, 2006, at Regional West Medical Center, Scottsbluff.

A Mass of Christian Burial was at 10 a.m. Tuesday, Sept. 26, 2006, at Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church, Scottsbluff, with Father Phil Flott as Celebrant. Interment followed the service at Fairview Cemetery, Scottsbluff, with Military Honors conducted by the Nebraska National Guard.

Visitation was Monday, Sept. 25, 2006, from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. at the Jolliffe Funeral Home in Scottsbluff. A Rosary Service was at 7 p.m. at Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church, Scottsbluff. Memorials may be made to Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church, Christ the King Catholic Church, Western Nebraska Veterans Home or to the donor's choice. August was born on July 7, 1918, in Clyde, Mo., to Herman G. and Augusta M. (Schieber) Lager. He received his education at St. Benedict's Catholic School, Clyde, Mo., until the eighth grade, when the family moved to the Scottsbluff area. August continued his education at Sunflower School through the eleventh grade, and he graduated from Galileo High School, San Francisco, Calif., while enlisted in the U.S. Army.

August farmed with his brothers in the Mitchell area, was a Golden Gloves boxer in the area and worked at the Cook Packing Company, Scottsbluff, before leaving for his military service. He enlisted in the U.S. Army in August 1940 and served as Harbor Defenses in Ft. Funston, San Francisco, Calif., until May 1944 when he transferred to regular Army camp at Breckenridge, Ken.

During his military service, August married Betty Mack on Feb. 7, 1944, in Troy, Kan. August served at Ft. Benning and Ft. Mead before going overseas to the European Theater of War, where his 7th Army, under General Mark Clark, assisted in the liberation of the Dachau Concentration Camp. Upon his honorable discharge in October 1945, August and Betty moved to Clarinda where he served his journeymanship in carpentry.

In 1948, the family moved back to the Scottsbluff area, where August worked at the Kilpatrick Ranch for a number of years, spending a memorable winter of 1949 stranded by the historic blizzard.

He farmed on his own from 1951 until his retirement in 1979 in various areas of the valley. Following retirement, August and Betty moved into Scottsbluff where August enjoyed gardening, raising numerous roses, with more than 100 rose bushes surrounding his home, along with restoring collector automobiles, including two very special cars, a 1970 Lincoln Mark III and a 1951 Packard.

August was an avid sports fan, enjoying the Huskers, Denver Broncos, and the Atlanta Braves. His many friends and family will miss him.

August is survived by his wife, Betty, Scottsbluff; daughters Lynne C. Scriven and husband, Bernie, of Mesa, Ariz., and Cathy Roberts, Henderson, Nev.; sons William G. Lager and Andrew J. Lager and his wife, Michele, all of Henderson, Nev.; sister Katherine Hansen, Avondale, Ariz.; and sisters-in-law Tina Lager, Scottsbluff, and Beulah Lager, Greenville, S.C.; seven grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; and numerous extended family members.
His parents, son Martin Paul Lager, brothers Ben, John, Herman, and Leo, sisters Anna, Agnes, Henrietta, Bernadine, Mary Gable, and -Mary Rose, and great-granddaughter Destiny Hayden preceded August in death.

Lager, Harry, 82, Maryville, formerly of Guilford, died Thursday, November 29, 2007, at Heartland Regional Medical Center, St. Joseph. Mass of Christian burial was Tuesday, December 4, 2007, at St. Columba Catholic Church, Conception Jct. Burial was in St. Columba Cemetery, Conception. Lane, James – James Lane, 4 miles southeast of town, committed suicide yesterday afternoon by shooting himself with a shotgun. The deed was done about 3 o’clock. The charge entered the left side just below the rib. It did not kill him at once and a physician was called at once and everything was [done] that could be but of no avail, and he passed away about 5:30 that evening.

Mr Lane had been in poor health for more than two years and had been unable to do any work for more than a year. He had been in the Mayo hospital at Rochester, Minn., only just returning from there last Saturday. Despondence on account of his condition was the cause of the act. –Clearmont [Missouri] News. Lawson, Ray - He was born February 26, 1927 in Quitman, Missouri, the son of Jesse James "Star" Lawson and Audrey (Royer) Lawson. On October 7, 1950 Ray was united in marriage to Alta Buckingham in Maryville, Missouri.
Ray served in the United States Army during WW II. Following his service in the Army he farmed and worked in construction. Ray loved to fish and play his guitar. He is best known for his story telling.
Ray is preceded in death by his parents; his wife Alta; brothers, Jesse Lawson, Lawrence Lawson, Bud Lawson, Cecil Lawson, Maurice Lawson, Paul Revere Lawson; sisters, Mable Krantz, Sarah Pitts, Mary Babb, Betty Lawson.
Ray is survived by his children, David Lawson of Quitman, Mo, Steven Lawson of Quitman, Mo, Sarah Lawson of Phoenix, Az, Alan Lawson of Quitman, Mo, Carla Goodpasture and her husband Curtis of Clarinda, grandchildren, Trevor Goodpasture, Cassandra, Goodpasture, Sandra Hall, David Lawson, Jr., Phillip Lawson, Stephanie Lawson, Steven Lawson, Jr., Wayne Lawson, Joseph Lawson, Logan Lawson, Tammy Lawson, Lana Kewer, Bret Meyer, Bobby Lawson, Kimberly Lawson, Rebecca Lawson, Haley Hurst; 17 great grandchildren; sisters, Emma Gamble of King City, Mo, Thelma Abrams and her husband James of Skidmore, Mo, Velma Andrews of Omaha, Ne, along with nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

Burial was in the Quitman Cemetery at Quitman, Mo with military rites accorded by American Legion Post #315 of Burlington Junction, Missouri and the Fort Leavenworth Honor Guard. Born on June 17, 1918, in Lamar, she was the daughter of the late Daniel Webster and Rachael Allen Brandon.

Lynch, Helen Aline, 84 of Bedford, Iowa died February 12, 2006 at her home after several years of
failing health. Born November 18, 1921 in Maryville to the late Lon and Maude (Troncin) Wolcott, she
married Walter Leroy Lynch December 7, 1940 in Grant City, Missouri.

She was a 1940 Sheridan High School graduate and a resident of the Bedford area since 1942. Helen
worked hard on the farm and raised her two children with the help of her loving husband, Walter.
She was a member of the Hopkins First Baptist Church where she was a Sunday School teacher for
several years.

She is survived by her husband Walter Lynch, of their home in Bedford; 1 son, Leroy Lynch, Bedford;
1 daughter, Ruth Lynch Hauser, Conception Jct., MO; 4 grandchildren; Steve Lynch, Carolyn Lynch,
David Lynch and Denise Redden; 6 great- grandchildren; Jason Lynch, Walter Redden, Jessica
Redden, Zachary Lynch, Hannah Lynch and Lucas Lynch; and sister, Icle Hope Mewhirter, Osceola;
many nephews, nieces, cousins, and also, like a daughter to the family, Gloria Williams and her husband, Butch Williams.

He was born on May 16, 1919 the son of Harvey Leroy and

A farmer, Walter married Helen Aline Wolcott on December
7, 1940 in Grant City, Missouri. He was a member of the First
Baptist Church, Hopkins, Missouri.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Helen on February 12,
2006, his parents; 4 brothers; Melvin, Paul, John Carter and
Clifford Lynch; 2 sisters; Mable Luttrel and Lucille Findley.
Survivors include her son and daughter-in-law: Leroy and
Rosemary Lynch, Bedford and daughter: Ruth Aline Hauser,
Conception Junction, Missouri; 4 grandchildren: Steve Lynch,

She was born Nov 15, 1929, to Glen and Flora (Adkins) Ray in Possum Walk [Nodaway County], Mo.

Mrs Long grew up in Nodaway County, Mo. After her marriage, the couple lived in Clarinda, coming to the Greeley area in 1960. They moved to Kersey in 1984, where her husband worked for Tri-State Commodities as a truck driver. She worked as a waitress at the Jade Inn and Eaton Pool Hall.

Survivors are her husband, Herald of Kersey; three sons, Ronald J. and Robert R. both of Greeley, Allen L. of Susanville, Ca; two brothers, John W. Ray Sr of Pueblo, and Loren E. of Brazil, Ind; 11 grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

Services will be at 10 am Monday at Stoddard Funeral Home. Interment will be in the Eaton Cemetery.
