Ashbaugh, Harold Chauncey -

Harold Chauncey Ashbaugh, 88 of Maryville, Missouri passed away Friday, November 19, 2010 at Golden Living Center, Maryville.

He was born November 2, 1922 in Shenandoah, Iowa, the son of Ralph and Gladys (Pickett) Ashbaugh. A 1940 graduate of Shenandoah High School, Harold joined the US Army in 1941 and served in the Western Pacific, becoming a Staff-Sergeant.

Harold received a BS in Education from NWMSU, Maryville and his Masters in Education from Drake University, Des Moines, Iowa in 1955.

He married Joan Powers on July 30, 1952 in Hardin, Missouri.

Mr. Ashbaugh worked in the Maryville RII School System for 22 years retiring in 1987. He was a member of the Pickering, Missouri Lions Club, Pickering, Missouri

He was preceded in death by his parents.

Survivors include, two sons: Carl (Diane) Ashbaugh, Maryville; Raymond Ashbaugh, Burlington Junction, Missouri; a daughter: Lori Ashbaugh, Maryville and two grandchildren: Cory and Callie Ashbaugh.

Visitation is 2-4 pm, Sunday, November 21, 2010 at the Price Funeral Chapel, Maryville, Missouri.

Funeral Services are 1 pm, Monday, November 22, 2010 at Price Funeral Home Chapel with burial in Rose Hill Cemetery, Shenandoah, Iowa.

Auffert, Charles Gregory -

Charles Gregory Auffert, 70, of Parnell, Missouri, died Monday, December 20, 2010, at Village Care Center, Maryville, Missouri.

 He was born May 20, 1940 in Parnell, Missouri, the son of   John Joseph and Rachel Marie (Hovenkotter) Auffert.   A 1958 graduate of Northeast Nodaway High School, he married Donna Kay Stutesman on June 30, 1958 in Parnell.

 A farmer, Charles was a member of St Joseph’s Parish, Parnell.

 He was preceded in death by his parents and brother, Leo Raymond Auffert.

 He is survived by his wife: Donna Auffert, of their home in rural Parnell; their children:  

David Auffert and Steven Auffert, Parnell; Linda Coleman, Burlington Junction, Missouri; Mary Auffert, Maryville and Susan  (Mike) Bagby, Corning, Iowa; eleven  grandchildren;  three great-grandchildren; a brother:  Philip Auffert, Parnell and sister: Sr. Mary Ellen Auffert, OSB, in Nebraska..

 Visitation is 6-7 pm Wednesday, December 22, 2010 at St Joseph’s Catholic Church, Parnell, Missouri with a Parish Prayer service at 7pm.

Boone, Luke Llewellyn - Luke Llewellyn Boone, 93, of Maryville, Missouri went to live in his real home in heaven on Friday, November 19. Born October 30, 1917 in Galt, Iowa to Luke Algernon and Rose Alma King Boone, Luke was a retired educator. He married Ada Adele Whitley in Fayette, Iowa August 11, 1940. She preceded him in death on June 21, 1941. He married Rosie Marie Lienemann in Van Meter, Iowa December 27, 1948. She preceded him in death on April 6, 1958. He was preceded in death by his parents, a brother Chessle Boone of Albert Lea, Minnesota and sisters Bonnie Osborne and Verla Lundahl of Clarion, Iowa. L. L. graduated from the Dows, Iowa Independent High School in 1935. He graduated from the Iowa State Teachers College in August 1939. He served in the U.S. Navy from 1942 – 1945. He did post graduate work at Upper Iowa University between 1945 and 1948. He completed his Master’s Degree at the University of Iowa in June 1951. He did additional graduate study at Iowa in 1952 and 1953 and at Michigan State University in 1968. Mr. Boone was a member of Hope Evangelical Lutheran Church in Maryville. He was a life member of the National Education Association and The Missouri State Teachers Association. Also, he was a member since 1951 of Phi Delta Kappa, a professional education fraternity and The Association of Educational Communication and Technology, his professional organization since 1952. He served as chair of the AECT History and Archives Committee for many years. Boone taught in Junior and Senior High Schools in Iowa and Illinois and served as a coach for athletics and drama activities. He was Director of Audio – Visual Aide Extension at Eastern Oregon College in LaGrande from 1953-1957. He taught at Northwest Missouri State University from 1958 until his retirement as Professor Emeritus in 1988. His final assignment was as associate professor in learning resources and head of Audiovisual and Curriculum Materials Resources at Northwest. Boone was a member of the Maryville Bowling Association and a life member of The Amateur Bowlers Tour. He won the Missouri State Seniors class singles (55-64) championship and all events and represented Missouri at ABC Nationals in Baltimore, MD in 1980. He won three singles and one doubles title in ABT action. Survivors include his son Luke Clifford Boone of Stanberry Mo and daughter Twyla Marie Hazen of Maryville; sisters Bessie Ritter and Darlene Balsar of Clarion, Iowa and sister-in-law Beverly Boone, Albert Lea, Minnesota; four grandchildren and seven great grandchildren. Visitation will be held at the Hope Evangelical Lutheran Church Friday, November 26 from 5-7 pm. Services will be 1 pm Saturday, November 27, at the Hope Evangelical Lutheran Church Maryville.  Burial will be at Trinity Lutheran Cemetery in Van Meter, Iowa on Monday, November 29 at 1 PM In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Hope Evangelical Lutheran Church in Maryville or the Northwest Missouri State University Foundation
Brown, Idalee Loutzenhiser - Idalee L. Loutzenhiser Brown 88, of Maryville, MO, passed away Saturday, November 27, 2010 at the Village Care Center, Maryville.

Born on April 22, 1922 in Blockton, IA, she lived in Michigan, Mississippi, Oregon, Arizona, and Missouri. She graduated from Western Michigan University, and taught Home Economics in Alpena, Michigan for many years.

She was a wonderful aunt, avid gardener, super golfer, and a terrific friend.

Idalee was preceded in death by her husband Harvey Brown, her parents, two brothers, a sister, as well as several nephews and nieces.

She is survived by her brother, Robert Loutzenhiser, of Villisca, IA, and many nieces, nephews, and great nieces and great nephews.

Mrs. Brown has been cremated. Memorial graveside service, 2:00 P.M. Sunday, December 5, 2010, at the Rose Hill Cemetery, Blockton, IA. Rev. Scott Marcum will be the officiant.

Colter, Elaine Buholt -

Elaine Buholt Colter 75, St Louis, Missouri  passed away, Tuesday, December 7, 2010 at Missouri Baptist Medical Center, St Louis, Missouri.

She was born December 4, 1935 in Ravenwood, Missouri, the daughter of Charles Everett and Louie (Harris)  Buholt. A graduate of Ravenwood High School, Elaine married Richard Colter, December 20, 1953 in Ravenwood.  They later divorced.

 Mrs. Colter had been a member of the Pacific Missouri United Methodist Church and the Ravenwood Chapter of the Order of the Eastern Star.  Banking was her lifelong career.

 She was preceded in death by her parents; sisters: Charlene Spoonemore and Jean Davis and brother: Howard Buholt.

 Survivors include her sons: Mark (Lisa Leibach) Colter, Overland, Missouri and Steven Colter,  St Peters, Missouri;   grandchildren: Ashley and Cameron Colter; great-grandson and the most recent joy of her life: Brayden Colter-Spiller;   brother:  Allen (Arlene) Buholt, Maryville, Missouiri and many nieces and nephews.

 Visitation is 6:30-7:30 pm, Friday, December 10, 2010 at Price Funeral Home, Maryville.

Cushing, Mary Angeline Gregory -

Sr. Mary Gregory Cushing, OSB, 97, Clyde, Missouri died, Tuesday, December 28, 2010 at Our Lady of Rickenbach Care Center, Clyde.

Mary Angeline Cushing was born May 26, 1913 in Hamilton, Massachusetts, the daughter of Walter and Louise (Mahoney) Cushing.

Joining the Benedictine Sisters of Perpetual Adoration in Clyde, Missouri, on September 15, 1938, Sr. Mary Gregory made her final profession on September 1, 1945.  She served as an organist, liturgist and in other positions at the Benedictine Monasteries in Tucson, Arizona; Kansas City, Missouri; Mundelein, Illinois and San Diego, California before returning to Clyde in 2002.

Preceding Sister in death were her parents; a brother, Harold Cushing and her sisters: Victoria Clark and Louise Powers.

In addition to her monastic family, she is survived by a niece, Mary (Mrs.Barry) Lastinger, San Pedro, California and a nephew, Michael (Linda) Powers, Townsend, Massachusetts.

A 7 pm Prayer Vigil will be Sunday, January 2, 2011 at Our Lady of Rickenbach Chapel, Clyde, Missouri.

Davis, William "Bill" Jr, William (Bill) Davis Jr., 62 of Maryville passed away Saturday November 20, 2010 at his home.

He was born on September 10, 1948 in Maryville, MO, to William Davis Sr., and Thelma Vollnogel Davis, they preceded him in death.

Mr. Davis proudly served his country in the U.S. Navy during the Vietnam War, serving from September 1966 to February 1969. He received the Purple Heart medal from injuries suffered there.

Bill was most recently employed by Federal Mogul in Maryville, MO and retired after becoming disabled.

Bill married Leslie Ann Morrow on January 26, 1980 in Maryville, MO, and she survives of the home. Other survivors include, Son, Wiley Davis of Maryville, MO, daughters Ardis DelaRiva of Alameda California, Tiffany (Tony) Rowlett of Maryville, MO, Sommer (Keith) Thompson of Bolckow, MO, Chantal (fiance Chris Diekmann) Davis of Maryville, MO. He is also survived by 5 grandchildren, Michael DelaRiva, and Kayla Strouse, of Alameda CA, Johnathan Rowlett of Maryville MO, Liberty Thompson, and Rex Thompson, of Bolckow, MO, brothers Larry (Elizabeth) Davis of El Paso, TX, Gary Davis of Medford, OR, and by sisters Ilene (Dave) Lockhart of Reno, NV, and Shona (Don) Brooks of White City, OR.

Funeral services will be at 10:00 A.M. Saturday, November 27, 2010 at the Bram-Danfelt Funeral Home, Maryville. The burial will be in the Oak Hill Cemetery, Maryville. The visitation will be from 6-8:00 P.M., Friday November 26, 2010 at the funeral home. Military rites will be preformed at the cemetery.

Dorman, Dale Daniel - Dale Daniel Dorman, Jr. 78, of Graham, MO, passed away Thursday, November 18, 2010, at his home north of Graham.

Dale was born on October 17, 1932 in Graham, and was a resident of Council Bluffs, IA before returning when he retired. His parents were Dale Daniel and Mary Elizabeth Shields Dorman, Sr., they preceded him in death. He was also preceded in death by his brother Jim, in 2003.

Dale was a graduate of the Graham High School, where he was student council president and the editor of the school paper. He then joined the U.S. Army in February 1953, and spent two years in service.

Dale got his college degree and went to work as an accountant doing audit work for SAC bases, he spent 34 years with Offutt Air Force Base, Omaha, NE.

Dale loved to travel and visited 64 countries and all 50 states. He took over 30,000 photos and enjoyed displaying them for local nursing homes. He was a member of the Nodaway County Democratic Club. Dale’s greatest love was his cats.

Survivors include his nephew, Alan E. (Toni) Rowlett, Graham, MO, his niece, Melinda Dorman Stickens, Graham, MO, and a host of Graham area friends.

The funeral service will be at 2:00 P.M. Tuesday, November 23, 2010, at the Bram-Danfelt Funeral Home, Maryville, burial will be at the Prairie Home Cemetery, Graham, MO. The family will receive friends from 1:00 P.M. until service time Tuesday at the funeral Home

Military honors at the cemetery will be conducted by members of the James Edward Gray American Legion Post 100, Maryville, and by members of the Missouri Military Honors Detail

 

Gallagher, Marie Emma Auffert -

Marie Emma (Auffert) Gallagher, 96, Maryville, Missouri, (formerly of Burlington Junction, Missouri), died Tuesday, November 16, 2010, at St. Francis Hospital, Maryville.

She was born east of Maryville to Fred Joseph and Mary Elizabeth (Wilmes) Auffert on March 30, 1914. She attended St Mary’s School . She worked at St Francis Hospital in Maryville before marrying Francis Edward Gallagher on April 19, 1938, in Maryville.

Marie and Francis spent their married life farming in the Nodaway County area, living many years near Burlington Junction where Marie was a member of the Friendly Neighbors Club and an active member of St Benedict’s Catholic Church. As a lifelong Catholic, active involvement in her church was an important part of her life.  

She loved working in her vegetable and flower gardens. She was a superb cook, who could present a delectable meal with grace and elegance.

Marie and Francis retired from farming in 1989 and moved back to Maryville. Francis preceded her in death on October 5, 1996. While living in Maryville, Marie was a member of St Gregory Barbarigo Catholic Community and St Gregory’s Guild.

Marie was also preceded in death by her parents; one sister: Kay Pfeifer Taylor and three brothers: an infant, Sylvester Auffert, Fred Auffert and Richard Auffert.

Survivors include one son : Don (Ellen) Gallagher, Maryville; one daughter Gerry Ann (Ron) Siever, Springfield, Missouri; seven grandchildren; eleven great-grandchildren; six step-great-grandchildren; one sister: Evelyn Peterson, Maryville; three sisters-in-law: Shirley Auffert, Isabelle Auffert and Mary Gallagher, all of Maryville and numerous loving nieces, nephews and cousins.

Visitation is 6-7 pm Friday, November 19, 2010 at Price Funeral Home, Maryville, with a Family and Parish Prayer Service at 7 pm.                                                                                                                               

Mass of Christian Burial is 9:30 am Saturday, November 20, 2010 at St. Gregory Barbarigo Catholic Church, with burial in St. Patrick's Cemetery, Maryville, Missouri

Gordon, Donald -

Donald Gordon, 82 of Maryville, Missouri died on Tuesday, November 16, 2010, at Golden Living Center in Maryville, Missouri.

Born January 27, 1928 in Graham, Missouri, he was the son of the late Chester and Esther (Owens) Gordon.

He was a pin setter for Nodaway Lanes Bowling Alley and later worked at the Nodaway County Sheltered Workshop. He was a member of the First United Methodist Church, Maryville.

He was preceded in death by his parents, sister Ila Gray and nephew Paul Gray.

Surviving are a sister, Betty Law, Maryville, niece Ila Hunt, and nephews Dan, Benny, and Kurby Law.

Friends may call after 9:00 AM Thursday and funeral serivces will be 2:00 PM Friday, Novmeber 19, at the Price Funeral Home Chapel, Maryville.

Burial will be in Prairie Home Cemetery, Graham, MO

 

Gregory, Leo Arthur -

Leo Arthur Gregory 97, of Guilford, MO passed away Friday, December 17, 2010 at the Parkdale Manor Nursing Home in Maryville, MO.

He was born on a farm east of King City, MO on April 25, 1913. On July 5, 1935 he was united in marriage to Audrey Mary Lamaster in Albany, MO, they farmed in the King City area for five years and then moved to a farm in the Guilford area where he stayed the remainder of his life.

Leo was preceded in death by his parents, Arthur and Gertrude Gregory, and by three sisters and two brothers.

Survivors include his wife of 75 years, Audrey, of the home in Guilford, one son Galen of Guilford, two daughters, Rhonda Tobin of Guilford, and Carolee Nelson of Ravenwood, MO. He is also survived by four grandchildren, Denise Wallace, Kevin Wallace, Scott Tobin, and Shawn Tobin, and by a great granddaughter, Danielle Manning.

No services or visitation are planned at this time. The burial will be in the Weathermon Cemetery, Guilford, MO.

Hartman, Martin Wayne - Martin Wayne Hartman, 68, of Graham, passed away December 19, 2010, at a Maryville health care center.

Wayne was born August 28, 1942, the son of William and Mary Virginia (Bush) Hartman in rural Barnard, Missouri.  He was a 1960 graduate of Graham High School and earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Industrial Arts and Agriculture from NWMSU, Maryville.  Wayne was a member of the livestock judging team at Northwest and judged many local and national livestock exhibitions. 

Wayne married Susan Cline on September 18, 1971 in Helena, Missouri.  She survives of their home.  He is also survived by:  his son, Greg (Alysa) Hartman, Redfield, Iowa; his daughter: Kim (Justin) Coffelt, Barnard, Missouri; granddaughter: Kennedy Coffelt, Barnard; a sister: Suzanne (Brad) Nocita, Council Bluffs, Iowa; a brother: Bill (Toni) Hartman, Las Vegas, Nevada; his brother-in-law: Harlan Giese, Ankeny, Iowa and numerous other sisters-in-law, brothers-in-law, nieces, nephews and cousins.

He was preceded in death by his parents; a sister: Barbara Giese and two grandsons: Brock and Gage Hartman.

Wayne was a member of the Barnard United Methodist Church, the Graham Lions Club and he was a charter member of the Nodaway County Community Building Board.  Wayne belonged to the Missouri Shorthorn Association and was past president of the Northwest Missouri Shorthorn Association.  Wayne’s passion was livestock and along with his father, he began Waybar Shorthorn Farms in 1945.  In 1978, William and Wayne were named the American Shorthorn Association’s Builders of the Breed.  In 2006, the Missouri State Fair recognized him during the beef show for showing Shorthorns for 50 consecutive years.  Helping others learn about livestock and agriculture were important to Wayne.  Wayne also loved going to country music shows, dancing and spending time with his family.

Funeral Services will be held December 22, 2010 at 11 am at Price Funeral Home Chapel, Maryville, Missouri.  Mr. Hartman’s body will be cremated after the service.

Jackson, Donald Dwane -

Donald Dwane Jackson, 83, Savannah, Missouri, died Friday, December 10, 2010, at Heartland Regional Medical Center, St. Joseph, Missouri

Donald was born November 30, 1927, in Barnard, Missouri, to Edgar and Helen Davison Jackson. 

He was a graduate of Horace Mann High School, Maryville, class of 1945. 

He married Laura Ferguson on June 5, 1955 in Rosendale, Missouri.  She survives him of the home in Savannah.     

Don was a farmer and worked at the Barnard MFA and Guilford Elevators.  He lived most of his life around the Barnard area and enjoyed going to Texas in the winter.  Lots of time during the summer was spent at Big Lake. 

He was a veteran of the Korean War, serving in the United States Army from March 1951 to December 1952.  Donald was a member of the Barnard O'Howell Strader American Legion Post #102; other memberships include the Barnard Christian Church and the Eagles Lodge in St. Joseph, MO. 

Preceding him in death were two brothers, Doyle and Bobby and an infant sister Darlene. 

Additional survivors include one sister, Kay McGee, Bashor, Kansas. 

Visitation is Monday, 6-8 PM at the Price Funeral Home, Maryville, MO where funeral services will be at 10:30 AM Tuesday.  Burial will be in the American Legion Cemetery, Barnard, MO.

Johnson, Valda Ruth Richey -

Valda Ruth Johnson, 76, of Skidmore, Missouri, passed away Saturday, December 11, 2010,  at Heartland Regional Medical Center,  Saint Joseph, Missouri.

She was born June 25, 1934, in Arkoe, Missouri, the daughter of  Alvin McDonald and Gladys Ruth (York) Richey. 

Valda was a graduate of Bellvue High School, Mound City, Missouri.      

She married Noel Johnson June 18, 1952, in Nodaway County, Missouri.  He preceded her in death in 1990;

She was also preceded in death by her son: Darrell Johnson; her parents; a sister Fern Sweeny and a brother: Alvin Richey.

Valda  was a  retired payroll clerk for the United States Marine Corp, Kansas City, Missouri

urvivors include her daughter Elizabeth Maurer, Liberty, Missouri; two sons Randy Johnson, Savannah, Missouri and Daniel Johnson, Skidmore;  seven grandchildren:  Sara , Jessica , and Molly Johnson, Sherri Stewart, Thomas Wright, David Wright, and Chance Maurer, and four great-grandchildren.

 Visitation is  6-7:00 PM,  Monday, December 13, 2010, at Price Funeral Home, Maryville, Missouri, where funeral services will be 2:00 PM, Tuesday.   Burial will be in Hillcrest Cemetery, Skidmore, Missouri

Kelly, Patrick Joseph -

Patrick Joseph Kelly, 68, Maryville, Missouri, (formerly of Brooklyn, New York) died Monday November 22, 2010 at Heartland Regional Medical Center, St. Joseph, Missouri. He was born April 5, 1942 in Brooklyn, New York, the son of Owen and Mary (Conway) Kelly. Patrick graduated Ft. Hamilton High School and attended Long Island University in Brooklyn.

He joined the Navy and served during the Cuban Missile Crisis. He married Patricia Angela Foti September 7, 1968 in Brooklyn.

Patrick retired from Pitney Bowes, New York, New York as Service Manager.

He and Patricia moved to Maryville in 2007 and he is a member of St Gregory Barbarigo Catholic Community.

 Mr. Kelly was preceded in death by his parents; and three brothers: Joe, John and Jimmy Kelly. Survivors include his wife, Patricia, of their home in Maryville; one daughter: Alexandra (Jared) Gallagher, Maryville; three grandchildren: Payton, Cleo and Samantha Johnson, Maryville and siblings: Eugene Kelly, Smithville, New Jersey, Mary Turek, Eileen Abbot and Michael Kelly, all of Brooklyn, New York.

There will be a Legion of Mary Rosary at 4 pm Monday, November 29th at Price Funeral Home, Maryville. Visitation is 6-7 pm Monday, November 29, 2010 at Price Funeral Home, Maryville, followed by a Parish Prayer Service.

Logsdon, Eloise Thompson -

Eloise Logsdon, 86 of Maryville, Missouri died on Tuesday, December 28, 2010, at Nodaway Nursing Home, Maryville, Missouri.

Mary Eloise Logsdon was born to Lavina (Goforth) and Raymond Thompson, July 29, 1924 in rural Barnard, Missouri.

Eloise was a 1943 graduate of Pickering High School, Pickering, MO and Northwest Missouri State College, Maryville. She earned certification in elementary education and taught in rural schools in Nodaway County for several years.

She was united in marriage to Robert Logsdon on May 22, 1953 in Maryville. She was a homemaker and a Christian and a member of the Pickering United Methodist Church, United Methodist Women and the Sunrise Jolly Mixers Club, all of Pickering, MO.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband Robert (Dec. 26, 2005) and two sisters Doris Griggs and Elaine Piel.

Malam, Eleanor "Ellie" Dawson -

Eleanor Florence “Ellie” Dawson Malam, 85 of Maryville, Missouri; passed away Monday, November 15, 2010 at St Francis Hospital, Maryville, Missouri.

She was born on April 28, 1925 in Skidmore, Missouri, the daughter of Ernest and Vida (Sanders) Dawson. A 1943 graduate of Horace Mann High School, Maryville, Ellie married Lawrence “Bud” Malam October 27, 1945 in Olathe, Kansas;

She had been an assembly worker at A T & T.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Bud Malam on May 7, 1997; infant sons: Larry Lee and Rudy David Malam; her parents; brothers: Vernon, William and Robert Dawson and a sister: Ernestine Dawson Shell.

Survivors include her children: Sherry (Bob) Nielson, Barnard, Missouri and David (Teresa) Malam, Independence, Missouri; six grandchildren: Amber Hyde, Lindsay Turpin, Emily Ulm, Tracey Nielson, Alex Malam and Savannah Malam; five great-grandsons; a brother: Jimmy Dawson, St. Joseph, Missouri; two sisters: Joy Green, Kansas City, Kansas and Judy Ewer, Lee’s Summit, Missouri and several nieces and nephews.

Messbarger, Darrell - D. Darrell Messbarger was born July 13, 1929 in Maryville, Missouri to Albert A. and Mary B. (McClaren) Messbarger. He had a passion for music and loved playing the piano.
Darrell passed away November 29, 2010 in Liberty, Missouri. He is preceded in death by his parents; brothers: Galin, William, Maurice and Albert; and sisters: Florence, Evelyn, Pauline and Lavone.
Surviving Darrell are his children: Darrell Darwin Messbarger and wife Kathy of Parkville, Missouri, David Messbarger and wife Terry of Independence, Missouri, Jon Messbarger of Holt, Missouri, Debra Murrah of Morris Town, Tennessee, Lisa Green of Kansas City, Missouri, Chris Messbarger of Gladstone, Missouri and Traci Burrow of Olathe, Kansas; 12 grandchildren; 3 great grandchildren; brother Jack Messbarger of Austin, Texas; and sisters Joan Squire of Gladstone, Missouri and Virginia Smith of Atlanta, Georgia.


Darrell Messbarger, 81 of Holt, Missouri passed away November 29, 2010 in Liberty, Missouri. Mass of Christian Burial will be held 1:00 p.m. Friday, December 3, 2010, at the St. Benedict Catholic Church in Burlington Junction, Missouri. Interment will be in the Ohio Cemetery following mass. A viewing and time of visitiation will be one hour prior to the mass.

Montgomery, Anna Belle Morton - Anna Belle Morton Montgomery 88, of Maryville, MO, and formerly of Graham, MO, passed away Thursday, November 25, 2010 at the Village Care Center.

Anna was born in Skidmore, MO, on September 6, 1922 to Charles Albert and Myrtle Mae Deffenbaugh Morton, they preceded her in death. She was also preceded in death by two brothers, Charles, and Bill Morton, and three sisters, Ella Mae Furster, Grace Grishow, and Lois Patterson.

Anna married James Edward Montgomery on May 25, 1945 in Troy, KS, he passed away in August of 1981. She was a homemaker and a member of the Skidmore Christian Church, Skidmore, MO.

Survivors include her son, Carl E. Montgomery, Maryville, MO, three granddaughters, Toni (late husband Kenny) Schafer, Maryville, Terri (Bob) Lager, Maryville, Jackie Moore, and David Moore, and three grandsons. She is also survived by seven great grandchildren, Trevor and Mason Schafer, Maryville, MO, Shelby, Fritz, and Anna Lager, Maryville, Natascha Degase, and Austin Brown, both of Savannah, MO, and two great great-grandchildren.

Anna took great pride in raising her granddaughters. You would often hear her say they were the apple of her eye. She would speak of them to anyone who would listen. But that all changed when the great grandchildren came along. She was an amazing person to all who knew her.

Services will be at 10:00 A.M. Monday, November 29, 2010 at the Bram-Danfelt Funeral Home, Maryville. The burial will be in the Groves Cemetery, Skidmore, MO. The family will receive friends from 2-4:00 P.M. Sunday, November 28, 2010 at the funeral home.

Nelson, Virgil Raffail -

Virgil Raffail Nelson, 90, Maryville, Missouri, died Tuesday, December 21, 2010,  at Parkdale Manor Care Center,  Maryville, Missouri.

Virgil  was born August 04, 1920, in Barnard, Missouri to Ernest R. and Myrtle  Westfall Nelson. 

He was a graduate of Barnard High School, Barnard, Missouri, Class of 1939.   Virgil was a self employed drainage contractor in Nodaway and surrounding counties for over 50 years before retiring.

He married Darlene Schmitt, May 01, 1946, in Troy Kansas.

He served as an airplane mechanic in the Air Force during World War II. 

Virgil was of the Christian faith.

Preceding him in death were daughter, Sharon Mann Drake; two brothers, Floyd E. and Neil Nelson; four sisters; Esther Elliott, Delores Nelson, Katherine Ward and Pauline Jann.

Survivors include: wife Darlene Nelson, of the home, Maryville; son, Kim (Tonya) Nelson, Maryville; son-in-law Gene (Martha) Drake, Maryville; two sisters, Irene Powell, Peoria, AZ and

Alice Schmitt, Maryville; 8 grandchildren and 6 great grandchildren.

Mr. Nelson’s body has been cremated.  Memorial services will be held at a later date.

Katherine Roberts, 95, of, Maryville, Missouri passed away, Monday, November 22, 2010 at Parkdale Manor Care Center, Maryville.

She was born on August 13, 1915 in Ravenwood, Missouri, the daughter of Sie and Myrtle Maude (VanHorn) Ralston. Katie was a 1933 graduate of Ravenwood High School. She married Edwin Lawrence Roberts on October 4, 1941 in Unionville, Missouri.

Katie owned and operated Katie’s Beauty Shop in Ravenwood and Maryville for 48 years.

She was a member of the Ravenwood First United Methodist Church, Nodaway County Widowed Persons Service and a 50 year member of the Rosanna Chapter #262, Order of the Eastern Star.

Katie was preceded in death by her husband: Ed Roberts, parents, brothers: Burton and Burdette Ralston and sisters: Emma Ziegler, Ina From, Alice From and Etta Goss.

Survivors include many nieces and nephews; great-nieces and great-nephews and her special friend: Madelyn Klepper.

Rita Teson Schieber, 93, Maryville, Missouri, (formerly of Conception Junction, Missouri), died Monday, December 13, 2010, at Parkdale Manor, Maryville.

She was born January 27, 1917 in Clyde, Missouri to Charles and Anna (Zirfas) Teson.  Rita married John H. “Jack” Schieber, on May 15, 1943 in Clyde.

A homemaker, she was a member of  St Gregory Barbarigo Catholic Community,  St Gregory’s Guild and St Gerard Circle, Maryville.

Rita was  preceded in death by her husband,  Jack on February 6, 1996; her son: Gregory in 1983; her parents, sisters: Amelia Teson and Beatrice Schieber and brothers: Robert, Alfred, Paul, Richard, Norbert and Leo Teson.

Survivors include her children: John(Pat), Ed(Peggy) and Cletus (Jennifer) Schieber, Vera (Pat) Wilmes and Teresa (Pete) Walter, all of Maryville; Sr. Marilyn Schieber OSB, Kansas City, Kansas; Mildred Nash, Gladstone, Missouri; Roy (Lois) Schieber, Platte City, Missouri;  Frances (Dave) McQuinn, Stanberry, Missouri and Maurice (Becky) Schieber, Marshfield, Missouri; 27 grandchildren; 32 great-grandchildren and sisters:  Sr. Charlene Teson FSM. St Louis, Missouri and Charlene Teson, Liberty, Missouri; many nieces and nephews.

Sexson, Audrey Wynette Herron - Audrey Wynette Herron Sexson 93, of Graham, MO, passed away Monday, November 15, 2010, at the Nodaway Nursing Home, Maryville, MO.

Audrey was born on August 10, 1917 in St. Joseph, MO.

She was preceded in death by her parents, George and Flo Croy Herron, formerly of Graham, MO, and her sister, Beulah Duffy. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Harold Sexson on July 10, 1988.

Audrey and her husband farmed north of Graham, MO, and she had a ceramic business in her home. She was a member of the United Methodist Church, and the Rebecca Lodge, both of Graham. She was a good neighbor and enjoyed going to auctions and attending hobby shows. She also enjoyed nature, animals, birds, her flowers, and took great pride in her yard. She also enjoyed watching the crops grow.

Audrey is survived by many friends in the Graham area.

Audrey has been cremated under the direction of the Bram-Danfelt Funeral Home, Maryville, MO, a private memorial service is planned for a later date. Friends may stop by the Bram-Danfelt Funeral Home to sign her register book

 

Spurgin, Tina Hogan - Tina Hogan Spurgin 52, of Pickering, MO, passed away Monday, November 22, 2010 at her home in Pickering.

Tina was born on November 14, 1958 in Cameron, MO and grew up in Harrison County Missouri. She was a graduate of South Harrison High School in 1977. After graduation she attended the Trenton College of Cosmetology. She was a hairstylist at several different area shops, and was with the Guys and Dolls Hair Studio in Maryville.

She married Matt Spurgin on September 1, 1979, he survives of the home in Pickering. Other survivors include her son, T.J. Spurgin, of Maryville, MO, daughter, Miranda Spurgin, of Maryville, MO, her sisters, Anita (Steve) Walker, of Maryville, MO, and Tammy (Bill) Hulet, of Bethany, MO, her brother, Tony (Brenda) Hogan, of Bethany, MO. She is also survived by her mother, Rose Hogan, of Bethany, MO, and several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her father, Bruce Hogan, and her Grandparents.

Services will be at 10:00 A.M. Wednesday, November 24, 2010, at the Bram-Danfelt Funeral Home, Maryville, burial will be in the White Oak Cemetery, Pickering, MO, Rev. Paul McKim will be the officiant.

Tompkins, Francis R. -

Francis R. Tompkins, 76, Saint Joseph, Missouri died on Monday, December 27, 2010, at Heartland Regional Medical Center, Saint Joseph, Missouri.

Born January 29, 1934 in Maryville, Missouri, he was the son of the late Orville and Ethel (Craig) Tompkins.

He was a 1953 graduate of Horace Mann High School,  and was employed as a mechanic by International Harvester and O'Reilly Auto Parts, St. Joseph.

He served in the Army from 1953 until 1961 and  was a member of Church of Christ, Barnard, Missouri.

He was preceded in death by a sister Gladys Wright.

Surviving are his wife Jolene of the home, son James (Whitney)Tompkins and daughter Rhonda (Ron) Bartram all of St. Joseph, 9 grandchildren, 2 great grand children, and 4 nephews.

The family will receive friends from 7:00 PM to 8:00 PM on Tuesday, December 28, 2010, at Price Funeral Home.Funeral services: 2 PM Wednesday, December 29, Price Funeral Home Chapel, Maryville.  Burial will be in the American Legion Cemetery, Barnard, MO.

Vance, Ermil LuVaune Everhart -

Ermil LaVaune Vance, 76, of Tarkio, Missouri died Tuesday, November 30, 2010 at Bryan LGH Hospital, Lincoln, Nebraska.

She was born August 8, 1934 in Conception, Missouri, the daughter of William and Mary (Weathermon) Everhart.  Ermil was a 1952 graduate of Quitman High School, Quitman, Missouri and she married Gerald David Vance on June 13, 1959 in Clearmont, Missouri.   

A homemaker, Mrs. Vance was a member of the Tarkio Church of God.

She was preceded in death by her parents; brothers: Bill, Bob and Jess Everhart; sisters: Anna Mae Banks and Irene Nelson and granddaughters: Jodi and Sarah Freeman.

Survivors include her husband: David Vance, of their home in Tarkio; daughters: Annette (Brad) Mathers,  Tarkio and Debbie (Bill) Snapp, Savannah, Missouri; sons: Wayne (JoBeth) Vance, Fairfax. Missouri and Kevin Vance, Tarkio; twelve grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; brothers: Eldon Everhart, Maryville, Missouri and Joe Everhart, Blockton, Iowa; a sister: Phyllis Morrison, Corning, Iowa.

Visitation is 9:30-10:30 am Saturday, December 4, 2010 at Price Funeral Home in Maryville with Funeral Services at 10:30 am.

Welch, James M. -

James M Welch, 80, of Parnell, Missouri died Sunday, November 14, 2010 at Heartland Regional Medical Center, St. Joseph, Missouri.

He was born February 24, 1930 in rural Parnell, Missouri, the son of Frank and Christie (Waldeier) Welch. Jim graduated from Parnell High School in 1948. He married Rose Ann Frueh on November 21, 1950 in Maryville, Missouri. She passed away on September 6, 1967.

He then married Bonnie Hooker Fine on November 30, 1968 in Parnell, Missouri. She also preceded Jim in death on March 19, 2007.

A farmer, Jim was a member of St Joseph’s Parish in Parnell, the Knights of Columbus and the Sheridan and Parnell Lions Club.

In addition to his wives he was preceded in death by a son: Patrick; a daughter: Elaine Neaderhiser; a sister: Rose Mary Welch and brothers: Victor, Bobby, Sylvester and Francis Welch.

Survivors include his children; James “Alan” Welch, Parnell; Jean Ann (David) Hoppins, Lathrop, Missouri; Ricky Welch, Parnell; Christopher (Shelly) Welch, Albany, Missouri; Carol McGinnis, Richmond, Missouri; Andrew (Kim) Welch, Sheridan, Missouri daughter: Ammy Washington, Kansas City, Missouri;  16 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren three brothers: Bill Welch, Maryville, Missouri; Bernard Welch, Parnell, Missouri and Larry Welch, Fairfield, California; numerous nieces and nephews.
