Harriet Louise Watson Cain, 78, Maryville, Missouri died Thursday, July 16, 2009, at Village Care Center in Maryville.

She was born in Maryville on March 10, 1931, the daughter of W. Howard and Opal Hill Watson.

Harriet and Jean Robert Cain were married June 12, 1955, in Maryville. To this union was born their daughter, Brenda. The Cain family lived in Stanberry, Missouri until 1969, when they moved to Maryville.

Harriet was a 1949 graduate of Horace Mann High School in Maryville. A farm girl, she attended National 4-H Congress in Chicago during her freshman year at NWMSU, from where she graduated in 1953. She then taught Vocational Home Economics for seven years at Stanberry High School, and later taught two preschool groups for four years. She belonged to Fidelis Study Club and Beta Sigma Phi while in Stanberry. In Maryville she was active in DAR, Kappa Omicron Phi Alumni, Omicron Masters Chapter of Beta Sigma Phi, Widowed Persons Group, Nodaway County Historical Society, Genealogical Society, 20th Century Club, Knabb Extension Club and a lifetime member of the Presbyterian Church.

Preceding her in death were her parents, husband, Jean Cain (December 27, 2005), and sister-in-law, Carole Watson.

Survivors are her daughter, Brenda, and her husband Stephen Mullins; two grandsons, Matthew Stephen and Michael Robert Mullins, all of Maryville; brother, Harold Watson, Leawood, Kansas; niece, Anna Watson, Roeland Park, Kansas and nephews Bill Watson, Houston, Texas and Ed Watson, Liberty, Missouri.

The family will meet friends for a visitation from 1:00-2:00 pm Monday, July 20, 2009 at Price Funeral Home in Maryville. Funeral Services will follow the visitation at 2:00 p.m. also at Price Funeral Home.

Burial will be in Miriam Cemetery, Maryville.

Calfee, Gary Darwin - Gary Darwin Calfee was born April 1, 1942 in Blanchard, Iowa, the son of Willis Edmond and Alma Irene (Andres) Calfee. He passed away on Saturday evening, Feb 27, 2010 at the Clarinda Regional Health Center in Clarinda, Iowa, at the age of 67 years, 10 months and 26 days.
Gary grew up in the Blanchard area and attended school in Elmo, graduating with the last graduating class from Elmo High School in 1960. Following High School, Gary joined the U.S. Army and served for 20 years. On June 14, 1963, he was united in marriage to Gladys Elaine Stiverson in Clarinda, Iowa. This union was blessed with three children; Carl T., Kellie Sue and Cindy Anne.
After Gary retired from the Army, he worked as a jailer at the Page County Jail. He then went to work at the Clarinda Post Office, where he worked until November of 2002. Gary was a very active member of the Glen Miller V.F.W. Post #9230. He was a past member of the College Springs Fire & Rescue, where he served as a firefighter and first responders, and he worked with the Glenn Miller Birthplace Society and the R.S.V.P. program after his retirement. Gary enjoyed being outdoors hunting and fishing. He also enjoyed anything to do with the military and watching old western movies. While in the military, Gary was an active volunteer with the Boy Scouts and youth sports. The true love of his life was his grandchildren. Gary has lived every little boys dream, he was a soldier, a firefighter, a police officer and a postman.
He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers-in-law, James Spire and Donald Stiverson; and a sister-in-law, Ann Stiverson.
Survivors include his wife Galdys Calfee of Clarinda, Iowa; his children, Carl Calfee and his wife Leigh of Nebraska City, Neb., Kellie Calfee of Clarinda, Iowa, Cindy Darrah and her husband Matt of Clarinda, Iowa; six grandchildren, Trent Calfee, Megan Calfee, Maicy Darrah, Luke Calfee, Lindsay Darrah, Katelyn Darrah; a sister, Austina Spire of Parnell, Mo.; five brothers-in-law, Ronald Stiverson and his wife Sandy of LaVista, Neb., Larry Stiverson and his wife Rosemary of Bellevue, Neb., Marvin Stiverson of Portland, Ore., Glen Stiverson and his wife Doris of Keokuk, Iowa, David Stiverson of Parksburg, Penn.; nieces and nephews, Twilla Stiens and her husband Bill of Skidmore, Mo., Paul Spire and his wife Dee of Graham, N.C., Virginia Burns and her husband Terry of Parnell, Mo., Harold Spire and his wife Diane of Parnell, Mo., Willis Spire and his wife Martha of Parnell, Mo., Ronald Spire and his wife Pam of Parnell, Mo.; a special nephew, Eldon Stiverson and his wife Betty of Clarinda, Iowa; along with many other relatives and friends.

Burial with military honors was held in the Lamar cemetery at Elmo, Mo. Visitation with the family present was held Tuesday evening, March 2 from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at the Hillside Missionary Church in Clarinda.

Calfee, Lola Fern Callahan - Lola Fern Calfee was born December 10, 1918 in Maryville, Missouri, the daughter of Dee and Rebecca (Golay) Callahan. She passed away on Monday morning, January 12, 2009 at Gardenview Care Center in Shenandoah, Iowa at the age of 90 years, 1 month and 2 days.
Lola attended several rural schools in Nodaway County and graduated Pickering High School with the class of 1935. Lola married Jimmy Booth in 1943. They lived on a farm near Clearmont, Missouri. While there, she milked several cows by hand and raised a garden, sheep and chickens. They later divorced.
Lola moved to Shenandoah in 1958 to be near her sister, Mable. Lola cleaned houses and did ironing and mending for several prominent families until she was no longer able to work. Lola was married to Art Calfee, Sr. on February 12, 1977 by Rev. Edith Sterling in Shenandoah.
She used t love to play the guitar and sing. She also loved to read, watch TV and work in the yard. For several years she had a German Shepherd named ‘Tiki’. She was also a member of the First Christian Church in Shenandoah. Lola didn’t have children of her own but claimed her nieces and nephews as her own. Many other people called her ‘Aunt Lo’.
She was precede in death by her parents; her husband, Art Calfee, Sr., sisters, Mable Hart and Bula Koger; brother, Frank Callahan; nieces, Linda Koger and Dona Brownfield; and a great niece, Heidi Keihani.
Survivors include her nieces and nephews, Ruthie Owens and her husband Wayne of Hopkins, Missouri, Ronnie Koger of Shenandoah, Iowa, Gayle Smalling and her husband Dennis of St. Louis, Missouri, Sue Karr and her husband Gene of Herculaneum, Missouri, Mike Callahan and his wife Jan of Batavia, Illinois; a sister-in-law, Laverne Callahan of Festus, Missouri; 10 great nephews; five great nieces; along with many other relatives and friends.
Funeral services were held at 2:00 p.m. on Friday, January 16, 2009 at the Kirsch Funeral Chapel in Shenandoah. Burial was in the Oak Hill Cemetery at Clearmont, Missouri. Visitation with the family was held from 1:00 p.m. to 2:00 p.m. on Friday afternoon at the Kirsch Funeral Chapel in Shenandoah. Memorials were suggested the American Cancer Society.

George Wesley Campbell, 1109 East Second Street, Maryville, MO, died Monday January 5th, 2009 at his home.

He was born October 5th, 1934 in Diagonal, IA to Hugh Burnet and Sarah Adeline Campbell, attended rural schools in southern Iowa and graduated with the class of 1954 from Hopkins High School, Hopkins, MO.

He served in the US Navy Reserves and went on to serve in active duty on the USS Brinkley Bass DD87 as a Deck Engineer during the Korean Conflict. George later held several different positions within the Veterans of Foreign Wars organization. He was a Past Commander of the Seth Ray David VFW Post 442 in Maryville. He also served as V.F.W. District Three Commander and was named to the All State Commanders' Team. George was also an active member of the American Legion Post 464 in Conception Junction, MO.

George first worked for the Missouri State Highway Department in the construction department. He then went to work for Crouch Brothers Trucking for 18 years before working as an independent operator with Crouse Cartage. George later owned and operated Campbell Cartage Co. for 17 years. Prior to his retirement he worked at the Farmers' Elevator in Hopkins.

He was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Maryville, was a lifetime member of the North American Hunting Club, and was an avid outdoorsman who enjoyed hunting, fishing, and boating. George also enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren, often attending their sporting events and boating at the lake.

George married Thelma Aileen Glassgow on September 15th, 1957 at the United Methodist Church in New Market, IA.

He is survived by his wife, Thelma Campbell, Maryville, MO; brother Albert Campbell, Des Moines, IA; sister Helen Bradley, Bedford, IA; children Shirley (David) Barnett, Maryville, MO and Bruce (Beth) Campbell, Olathe, KS; five grandchildren: Michael (Cara), Melissa, Malorie, Mathew Barnett and Allison Campbell; many nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends.

A visitation will be held on Thursday, January 8th from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM at Price Funeral Home in Maryville. Services will be held on Friday, January 9th at 1:30 PM at the First United Methodist Church in Maryville. Burial will be at the Old Memory Cemetery in New Market, IA.

Macel Arlene Campbell, 95, Maryville, Missouri, died Friday, November 14, 2008, at Golden Living Care Center in Maryville.

She was born May 2, 1913, in Gentry County, Missouri to Roy and Lucile (Wharton) Brown. She attended Enyart Parochial School and then two years at Black Oak High School in Alanthus, Missouri.

Macel married Roy Campbell on November 6, 1931, in Gentry County Missouri. They lived on the farm there until October of 1963.

Mrs. Campbell moved to California in 1963, after Roy's death, and was employed as a nursing assistant with Halderman State Veteran's Home & Hospital. She was a member of the Seventh Day Adventist Church in Albany, Missouri.

Preceding her in death were her parents, husband, Roy Campbell (June 3, 1963), daughter-in-law, Geraldine, and sisters: Velma Fox, LaVon Tucker and Alice Rice.

She is survived by her son, Billy L. (Dorothy) Campbell , Aldrich, Missouri; granddaughter, Vicky (Mick) Dougan, Maryville; grandson, Richard (Rhonda) Campbell, Warrensburg, Missouri; great-grandchildren: Erin (Troy) Walker, Coby (Melissa) Dougan, Ryan Campbell, and Robbie Campbell and great-great-granddaughters: Kennedy Walker and Adalyn Campbell.

Fr. Roland Carbone, OSB 81, of Conception Abbey, died Friday, March 6, 2009 at St Stephen’s Infirmary, Conception, Missouri.

Fr. Roland was born May 26, 1927 in St Louis, Missouri, the son of Thomas and Carmela (Franco) Carbone. A graduate of Conception Seminary he professed as a Benedictine Monk September 3, 1949 and was ordained a priest May 29, 1954.

Among his many assignments, Fr. Roland served as professor of art at Conception Seminary College from 1978-2001; pastor of St Peter’s Parish, Stanberry, Missouri(1971-1973 and 1992-93); at St Columba Parish, Conception Junction, Missouri (!973-1976); the Newman Center at Missouri Western State College (1980-1991); St Joseph’s Parish, Parnell, Missouri (1994-2001) and St Joseph’s Parish, Trenton, Missouri (2004-2007).

He was preceded in death by his parents and brothers: Joseph Carbone and Thomas Carbone Jr.

Fr. Roland is survived by his monastic family and two nephews.

Visitation is from 6 pm Monday, March 9, 2009 with Vespers of the Dead at 7:15 pm at the Basilica of the Immaculate Conception, Conception, Missouri.

Mass of Christian Burial will be at 11 am Tuesday, March 10, 2009 at the Basilica in Conception. Burial will be in St Columba Cemetery, Conception, Missouri.

Carlson, Lola Grace Ecker - Lola Grace Carlson, 92, of Clearmont, MO, passed from this life on Saturday, August 9, 2008, at the Goldenrod Manor Care Center, Clarinda, Iowa.
Born on December 19, 1915, she was the daughter of the late Hollie and Ethel (McCord) Ecker. She is preceded in death by her husband Robert Carlson in 2000.
She was a homemaker and was a member of the Elmo United Methodist Church, the 60 & Up Club, and was a supporter of 4-H.
She is survived by her loving children, Ed Carlson, Corning, Iowa; Ethel Phillips, Lakewood, CO; Lillian Evans, Clearmont, MO; Lynn Carlson, Clearmont, MO; Dean Carlson, Bellevue, NE. Also a sister Verlie Weland, 10 grandchildren, 13 great-grandchildren, 16 step-great-grandchildren, four great-great-grandchildren, and other relatives and friends. She is preceded in death by her parents, husband, grandson Kevin Evans, sisters Pearl Adkins, Margerie Ecker, Zelma Hull, Thelma Ray, Geraldine Richardson, and a brother, Orie Ecker.
Funeral services were held at Elmo United Methodist Church, Elmo, Missouri, at 10 a.m. on Wednesday, August 13, with Rev. Richard Phillips officiating. Final resting place is the LaMar Cemetery.

Edwin Morris Carmichael, 90, Maryville, Missouri, died Saturday, September 29, 2007, at St Francis Hospital in Maryville, Missouri.

He was born September 4, 1917, in Pickering, Missouri to Charles and Iva (McKee) Carmichael.

Mr. Carmichael served in the Army Air Corps during World War II attaining the rank of Major. He was captured after being shot down over Germany and was a prisoner of war for two years.

He married Mildred R. Mahan on October 19, 1945, in Maryville, Missouri.

Mr. Carmichael was the Veteran's Service Officer for five counties in Northwest Missouri for 20 years.

A member of the Wray Memorial United Methodist Church, Hopkins, Missouri, he was also a member of James Edward Gray American Legion Post #100 and the Veterans Of Foreign Wars Post #442.

He was preceded in death by his parents, four brothers, Earl, Stanley, Charles and Paul Carmichael and sister Helen Locke.

He is survived by his wife Mildred, two sons, Mark and wife Cynthia Carmichael and Martin and wife Julie Carmichael, all of Maryville, Missouri, sister Carol Farrens, Concordia, Missouri, and several nieces and nephews.

There will be no formal visitation, however, friends may call anytime at the funeral home.

Marcus Edwin Carmichael, 49 of Shawano, Wisconsin, died Thursday, December 6, 2007 at his home.

He was born July 15, 1958 in Princeton, Missouri, the son of Carl and Janell (Giles) Carmichael.
A 1976 graduate of Shawano High School, Marcus was in sales and a professional musician. A work related accident caused him to become disabled in 1997.

He married Penny Hoffman July 10, 1992. He was a member of the Shawano United Methodist Church.

His grandparents were the late Ora and Josephine Carmichael of Hopkins, Missouri.

Survivors include his wife: Penny Carmichael, of their home; Parents: Carl and Janell Carmichael, Shawano; brother: Richard Carmichael, Cheyenne, Wyoming; 4 step-children:
Jean Hayes, Shelagh and Allan Sitterson, all of Virginia and Med Dukelow, Florida; 2 nephews and many cousins and friends.

Patricia Sue Carmichael, 62, Maryville, Missouri, died Saturday, August 30, 2008, at home in Maryville.

She was born August 4, 1946, in Maryville, Missouri to Raymond and Bunny (Gray) Corwin.

Pat married James Williams Carmichael on January 19, 1963, in Hopkins, Missouri.

She was a member of the Hopkins Baptist Church. She was also active with the Northwest Missouri Special Olympics and was an avid golfer and bowler.

Pat was an employee of the Maryville Hy-Vee Food Store, having worked as a cashier and in the receiving department.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband James Williams Carmichael (June 14, 1997) and sister Joanne Peve.

She is survived by two sons, Brent Carmichael and wife, Janet, Crestwood, Kentucky and Scott Carmichael, Cumming, Georgia; three granchildren, Caleb, Amber and Addie Carmichael, sister Beverly Davidson, Lakeport, California and numerous nieces and nephews.

A visitation will be from 6:00-8:00 p.m. Tuesday, September 2, 2008, Price Funeral Home Chapel, Maryville, Missouri, with the funeral service to be 1:00 p.m. Wednesday, September 3rd, also at the funeral home.

Byron Ercille Carpenter, 91, Burlington Junction, Missouri, died Wednesday, November 7, 2007, at Nodaway Nursing Home in Maryville, Missouri.

He was born November 18, 1915, in Elmo, Missouri to Dana and Pearl (Goodwin) Carpenter.

He married Dorothy Mae Shelton on December 6, 1958 in Clearmont, Missouri.

A retired heavy equipment operator, Mr. Carpenter worked 10 years for Nodaway Township. He also enjoyed bowling for many years.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Dorothy Carpenter; parents; 3 brothers, Charley, Galen and Wendell Carpenter; and 3 sisters, Velma Carpenter, Wilma Hunter, and MInnie Lee Carpenter.

He is survived by: 3 sisters, Joan Sloan, Burlington Junction, Dorothy Burch, Shenandoah, Iowa, and Lois Everhart, Clarinda, Iowa; 3 brothers, Landis Carpenter, Saint Joseph, Missouri, Calvin Carpenter, Essex, Iowa, and Doyle Carpenter, Elmo; Special Friend, Chris Shelton, Burlington Junction and sister-in-law, Carolyn Lowrance, Houston, Texas.

Carpenter, William Preston - William Preston Carpenter, 71, died Wednesday, February 4, 2009, at Parkdale Manor Care Center, Maryville, Missouri.

William was born April 15, 1937, in Maryville, Missouri to William and Helen (Wells) Carpenter, who preceded him in death.

William, a laborer, was employed by the Sheltered Workshop and was a member of the Methodist Church.

He is survived by his sister Nancy Carpenter Bechtolt, Sun City West, Arizona.

Imogene Carter, 90, Maryville, Missouri, formerly of Burlington Junction, Missouri, passed peaceably Thursday, September 13, 2007, at Parkdale Manor Care Center in Maryville.

She was born September 15, 1916, in Nodaway County, Missouri to John and Pearl (Wise) Meek.

She married Joseph Wilson Carter on August16,1940.
Making their home in Quitman and Burlington Junction, Imogene owned and operated Carter's Beauty Shop for over 50 years. She was a member of the Burlington Junction Christian Church and the Order of the Eastern Star.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Joseph Wilson Carter, son, Donnie Carter, parents and brothers, Jim and Robert Meek.

Imogene is survived by 2 sons, Jim Carter, Oregon, Missouri and Joseph W. Terri Sue Carver, 43, Burlington Junction, Missouri passed away June 23, 2009 at her home in Burlington Junction.

She was born June 27, 1965 in Maryville, Missouri. Terri graduated from West Nodaway High School at Burlington Junction in the class of 1983 and attended Northwest Missouri State University in Maryville. She married Brian Carver on January 27, 1990 in Clearmont, Missouri.

Terri was a homemaker and she had been a secretary at West Nodaway School.
She attended the First Christian Church in Burlington Junction and the Word of Life Church, St Joseph, Missouri.

Cain, Judith Ann Damewood - Judith Ann Cain, 63, of Chandler, Ariz., died Monday, May 4, 2009. She was born in Elmo, Mo., on January 2, 1946, the daughter of Kenneth and Pauline (Wills) Damewood. On April 7, 1970, she married Richard B. Cain.
She worked in the Mt. Pleasant Community School system, as an aide in the special needs classroom. She was involved with Boy Scouts while their son was growing up. She loved playing bridge, going to the casino and spending time with her family, especially her grandson, Blake.
She is survived by one son, Richard Kenneth Cain, one grandson, Blake Tyler Cain, both of Chandler, Ariz., her mother, two sisters, Sandra Damewood and Teri (Roger) Harrison, one niece Marti (Tim) Keldgord, one great-niece and two great-nephews all from Mt. Pleasant, Iowa, and one nephew, Matthew Harrison of San Diego, Calif.
Her husband, father, two infant daughters, maternal and paternal grandparents preceded her in death.
She will be interned in the Cain-Collett Cemetery in Novinger, Mo. with family graveside services at a later date. Memorials have been established to Hospice of the Valley, 1188 North Dobson Rd., Chandler, Ariz., 85224 and to Blake’s college education fund, which can be sent directly to the family.

Deborah Lynn Casteel, 55, Maysville, Missouri, formerly of Maryville, Missouri, died Sunday, July 20, 2008, at Cameron Regional Medical Center in Cameron, Missouri.

She was born May 21, 1953, in Maryville, Missouri to Richard and Shirley (Murphy) Baker. She was a 1971 graduate of Maryville High School.

Deborah was a former employee of Union Carbide Corporation and was a member of Laura Street Baptist Church, both in Maryville.

She was preceded in death by her parents.

She is survived by two sons: Travis Casteel and wife Cortney, Maysville, Missouri and Casey Casteel and wife Amanda, Cromwell, Indiana; two brothers: Todd Baker, Maryville, Missouri and Richard Baker, Abilene, Kansas; a sister Darla Brown, Ottawa, Kansas, and five grandchildren: Hannah, Blake, Tyler, Emma, and Chance.

Christian, Elva Lee - Elva Lee Christian, 71, St. Joseph, Missouri, formerly of Graham, Missouri, died Monday, July 20, 2009 at his home in St. Joseph.

Born August 18, 1937 in Graham to Elva W. and Mary Hicks Christian, Elva Lee was a 1955 graduate of Graham High School. He was a member of the Graham Union Church.

He was a retired heavy equipment operator for Turner, Ideker and Clark Construction Companies.

Elva Lee is survived by two brothers George Christian, Savannah, Missouri and Forrest Christian, Maitland, Missouri; sister Velma Davidson, Olathe, Kansas and several nieces and nephews.

Mr. Christian has been cremated. Memorial services will be held at a later date.

Lois Marjorie "Marge" Clayton, age 85 formerly of Pickering, died Saturday, May 2, 2009 in Maryville, Missouri.

Lois Marjorie Clayton was born February 16, 1924 in Nodaway County, Missouri to Beryl and Nettie (Jensen) Mitchell.

On January 18, 1944 she married Ralph L. Clayton in Santa Barbara, California, where he was stationed in the Army. They then returned to Pickering where they farmed for many years. He preceded her in death on August 16, 1989.

Marge was a member of the First Christian Church, Maryville, a 4-H Leader for eighteen years, and she also cooked for the Pickering Lions for numerous years.

She was also preceded in death by her parents, her brother Gerald Mitchell, and her sister, Dorothy Scott.

She is survived by her five daughters; Sue (Richard) Groves, Skidmore, Missouri; Joyce Harrison, Pearl, Mississippi; Carol (Preston) Sappington, Springdale, Arkansas; Gloria (Les)Griffey, Siloam Springs, Arkansas and Mary Beth (John) Baker, Weatherby Lake, Missouri; eight grandchildren; five great-grandchildren and sister, Roberta Monroe, Colorado Springs, Colorado.

Visitation will be held 6:00-8:00 p.m. Thursday, May 7, at Price Funeral Home, Maryville. Services will be 10:30 a.m. Friday, May 8, also at the funeral home, with burial at White Oak Cemetery, Pickering.

Kenneth Evan Clifton, age 46, of Ravenwood, Missouri, died Friday, February 22, 2008, at his sister's home outside of Ravenwood.

Kenneth was employed by Hosiery Mill.

He was born January 30, 1962 in Scottsboro, Alabama; the son of the late Larry and Margie (Burton) Clifton.

Dorothy A. Collins, 72, died Thursday, March 11 at Pikes Peak Hospice in Colorado Springs, Colorado.

Funeral Services will be Saturday, March 20 at 10:00 a.m. at the Price Funeral Home in Maryville, MO. A private family burial will be held at the Oak Hill Cemetery outside Clearmont following the service.

Dorothy was born on January 23, 1938 in College Springs, Iowa to Lois (McCalla) and Newton Hill. She graduated from Clarinda High School in 1956 and attended Northwest Missouri State University, where she graduated in 1960. Dorothy became a teacher in Illinois and then moved back to Iowa where she owned and operated the OK Café in Griswold, Iowa. Dorothy loved the outdoors at the farm, ‘Tick Haven’ outside of Clearmont. She had a big garden, raised a variety of animals and followed her sons in all they did. She had lived the last seven months at the Village at Skyline in Colorado Springs and enjoyed the mountain views and the fantastic weather.

She was a member of the Clearmont Christian Church. Dorothy is survived by her sons, Jim, and daughter in-law Kelly of Queen Creek, AZ and their three daughters: Kami (and her husband Kris), Ashley, and Tori, and Jeff, and daughter in-law Wendy, of Sibley, IA and their six children; Spencer, Tucker, Ellie, Cloie, Gabbie and Sophie; two brothers, Garry Hill of Rocklin, CA and Bernie Hill of Xenia, OH.

Dorothy was preceded in death by her parents, her brother Jim, and sister Virginia, and her husband John Ralph Collins.

Marguerite Alice Conley, 65, Maryville, Missouri, died Tuesday, March 2, 2010, at St. Francis Hospital, Maryville.

She was born June 11, 1944, in St. Joseph, Missouri, the daughter of John and Mary (Cunningham) Comella.

A graduate of Bishop LeBlond High School, St. Joseph, Missouri, Marguerite married Richard Eugene Conley April 3, 1964 in St. Joseph.

She was a member of St. Gregory Barbarigo Catholic Community, a homemaker and she worked at Eugene Field Elementary School, Maryville.

Marguerite was preceded in death by her husband: Richard Conley (December 21, 2000); her parents; and brothers: Phillip and Joe Comella

Viola Mae Gaskill Conz, 81, Pickering, Missouri died Saturday, January 16, 2010, at KU Medical Center, Kansas City, Kansas.

She was born September 9, 1928 in Rock Port, Missouri, the daughter of Arthur and Ethel (Burnsworth) Gaskill. Viola married Leonard McCombs on June 30, 1943 in Rock Port. Mr McComb died December 31, 1974. She then married Ralph Conz Jr June 1, 1975 in Pickering, Missouri.

A homemaker, she was a member of the Pickering Methodist Church, the Maryville Missouri Elks Club and Eagle’s Lodge.

In addition to her first husband Viola was preceded in death by her son: Leonard McCombs Jr; daughter: Donna Marie McCombs; parents; sisters: Margaret Kinder and Lola Gaskill and brother: Kenneth Gaskill.

Dan Collins Cornelison, 91, Maryville, Missouri, died October 12, 2007 at Beverly Living Center in Maryville, Missouri.

He was born December 7, 1915, in Benton, Iowa, to Guy and Julia Denhart Cornelison and graduated from Diagonal High School in 1931. He moved to Maryville with his parents in 1933 and married Mary Alice Tyson on April 23, 1939.

Dan served in the Navy during World War II. He retired from the U.S. Postal Service in 1980 after 42 years of service. He also was a self-taught local piano tuner for many years. He was a member of the First Christian Church, James Edward Gray American Legion Post #100, the National Association of Retired Federal Employees, Men's Forum and the Bearcat Booster Club. He also was a Hospice volunteer for many years.

He was preceded in death by his parents and a niece Deeana Warin, but is survived by his wife Mary Alice, Maryville, and by his sister, Lorabel Taylor, Creston, Iowa. He is also survived by: sons Richard, Flemington, New Jersey; Robert and his wife Jantina, Rochester, New York; Joe and his wife Ellita, Maryville; by grandchildren Chad Cornelison and his wife Robin, Springfield, New Jersey; Celeste Cornelison, Hoboken, New Jersey; and Justin and Rebecca Cornelison, Rochester, New York; by step-grandchildren, Eugene Burch, Maryville; James Burch and his wife Maria, Colorado Springs, Colorado; Tom Lubberts and his wife Janelle, Jim Lubberts and his wife Debra, Joyce Collier and her husband Tom, and Karen Przybycien and her husband Wally, all of Rochester, New York; by two great-grandchildren and twelve step-great-grandchildren; and by four nieces and nephews.

During his life, Dan embodied the heart and soul of America: hard work, self-reliance, and love of God, family and country. Through the life he led, he demonstrated that the common man can still have an uncommon impact on the world around him. He was an active supporter of the Maryville community and will be missed by not only his family, but also by many friends.

Mary Alice Cornelison, 91, Maryville, Missouri, died March 25, 2009 at the Golden Living Center in Maryville.

She was born August 2, 1917, in Skidmore, Missouri to Joseph and Edith Cottier Tyson. At the age of five her mother died giving birth to her twin brother and sister, Joseph Curtis Tyson and Edith Cottier Tyson. Joseph Tyson later married her stepmother Elizabeth Thomson. Mary Alice graduated from Daleview Country High School near Skidmore in 1934 and attended Northwest Missouri Normal School (now Northwest Missouri State University). She married Dan Cornelison on April 23, 1939. She entered the work force as an assistant to Dr. H. L. Poynter Sr., O.D., and then later worked at Northwest Missouri State College for 17 years. She was a member of Chapter HT of P.E.O., Daughters of the American Revolution and the First Christian Church, and also was a hospice volunteer for many years.

She was preceded in death by her husband Dan Cornelison and her brother Joseph and sister Edith. She is survived by her sons Richard, Flemington, New Jersey; Robert and wife Jantina, Rochester, New York; and Joe and his wife Ellita, Maryville; by grandchildren Chad Cornelison and wife Robin, Springfield, New Jersey; Celeste Cornelison, Hoboken, New Jersey; and Justin and Rebecca Cornelison, Rochester, New York; by step-grandchildren, Eugene Burch, Maryville; James Burch and his wife Maria, Colorado Springs, Colorado; Tom Lubberts and his wife Janelle, Jim Lubberts and his wife Debra, Joyce Collier and her husband Tom, and Karen Przybycien and her husband Wally, all of Rochester, New York; by two great-grandchildren and twelve step-great-grandchildren.

Homer was born October 6,1919 in Graham, MO, to the late Reid and Goldie Bernice Russell Council.

He married Neva Marie Yahrmark on August 9, 1941 in Rock Port, MO . She preceded him in death on July 30, 2009.

He served his country in the US Navy during World War II.

Homer was a member of the Graham United Methodist Church and a lifelong farmer of the Barnard Area.

Others preceding him in death were his sister Nina Blair and two brothers Murray Dean and Harold Council.

Survivors include one daughter, Marietta Grimes, Des Moines, Iowa.

James Bradley Culp, 67, Skidmore, Missouri, died December 18, 2009, at his home in Skidmore.

Brad was born October 8, 1942, in Maryville, Missouri to Richard Franklin and Dorothy Jean Peter Culp.

A 1960 graduate of Skidmore High School, he was a farmer.

Brad married Judith Ann Helzer May 20, 1960, in Bedford, Iowa.

He was a member of the Baptist Church in Clearmont, Missouri.

Brad was preceded in death by his father, Richard Culp, in 1978.

Survivors include his wife Judith Culp of the home, five children: Kelly (Sindy) Culp, Graham, Missouri, Bret (Donna) Culp, Maitland, Missouri, Shawn (Shellia) Culp, Bedford, Iowa, Shane Culp, Barnard, Missouri and Kymbra (David) Ecker, Elmo, Missouri, twelve grandchildren, two great-grandchildren, brother Kurt Franklin Culp, Maitland, and his mother Dorothy Culp, Skidmore.
