James Birkenholz

James M. "Jim" Birkenholz, 68, Arlington, Va., died Wednesday, February 3, 1993 at a Hospice of Northern Virginia.

Born Dec. 24,1924 in Maryville to Joe and Edna [Isabel] King Birkenholz, he was a printer.

He was married to Anna Delores Blich and left this area after high school.

Mr. Birkenholz served in the United States Army during World War II.

He was a member of the Christian Church Affiliation and the Masonic Lodge AF & AM, Arlington.

Mr. Birkenholz was preceded in death by his parents.

Survivors include his wife, of the home.

Visitation will be held at the Ives-Pearson Funeral Home Friday evening.

Services will be held in Arlington at 3 p.m. Saturday at the Ives-Pearson Funeral Home with the Rev. Jack Sawyer officiating.

Then Mr. Birkenholz's body will be brought to Price Funeral Home in Maryville for services here.

Visitation will be held from 7 to 8 p.m. Sunday at Price Funeral Home Chapel, Maryville.

Services will be held at 10 a.m. Monday at Price Funeral Home Chapel, Maryville, with the Rev. Donald Childers officiating.

Burial will be at Miriam Cemetery, Maryville.

Masonic services will be held at 8 p.m. Sunday conducted by the Rev. Dean Duff in affiliation with Nodaway Masonic Lodge No. 470 AF & AM, Maryville, at the Price Funeral Home.

Memorials may be made to the Missouri Masonic Home or the Shriner's Crippled Children's Home.

Services are under the direction of Price Funeral Home, Maryville.

Mr. Birkenholz died Feb. 3 in Arlington.  

Pallbearers were Martin Slagle, Waymon Walker, Jim Evans, Rex Barnett, Phil Bram and Richard Dowden. Mrs. Eldon Asbell served as organist.

Burial was at Miriam Cemetery, Maryville.

Bessie Calfee

Bessie A. Calfee, 91, Burlington Junction, died Saturday, February 6, 1993 at Village Care Nursing Home, Maryville.  

Born Aug. 28, 1901 in Burlington Junction to Ed [win] M. [arion] and Cora Sallee Adkins, she was a homemaker.

She married Virgil I. [zia] Calfee on Dec. 21,1922 in Elmo.

Mrs. Calfee attended Possum Walk School.

She was a member of the Elmo Christian Church, teaching Sunday school for many years; Women's Missionary Society; Rolla Dicks American Legion Auxiliary as a charter member.

Mrs. Calfee was preceded in death by her parents; husband; three brothers and one sister.

Survivors include two sons, Donald [Edwin] Calfee, Las Vegas, Nev, and [William] Lowell Calfee, Burlington Junction; two daughters, Ila [Marie] Berry, Clearmont and Evelyn [Nadene Yarrington] Wessley, Stover; eight grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; two step-grandchildren; two step-great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.

Visitation is currently under way at Price Funeral Home, Maryville.

Services will be held at 2 p.m. Tuesday at the Clearmont Christian Church, with Mr. Carl Holdsworth and Mr. Alvin Reed.

Mrs. Calfee will lie-in-state at the Clearmont Christian Church from 1 to 2 p.m. Tuesday.

Burial will be at La Mar Cemetery, Elmo.

Memorials may be made to the Christian Church.

Services are under the direction of Price Funeral Home, Maryville.

Mrs. Calfee died Feb. 6 in Maryville.  

Pallbearers were Kodi Calfee, Rod Poole, Scott Calfee, Shane Calfee, Kelly Glassgow, Tom Yarrington and Ken Yarrington.

Betty Hull served as organist and vocalist.

Burial was at La Mar Cemetery, Elmo.

Ralph Marion Camp, 78, Stanberry, died Sunday, January 31,1993 at the Albany Hospital, Albany.

Born April 16, 1914 in Lawrence County, Ill., he formerly lived in Pueblo, Colo, and moved to Stanberry in 1981. He retired in 1981 from Wilcoxin Buick Dealership, Pueblo, as a service advisor.

He married Doris Delphia Newman Oct. 15,1937 in Castle Rock, Colo.

Mr. Camp was a member of the Baptist Church, Darlington.

He was preceded in death by one brother and one sister.

Survivors include his wife, of the home.

Services were held today at Johnson Funeral Home Chapel, Stanberry.

Burial was at High Ridge Cemetery, Stanberry.

Born Aug. 8,1914 in Parsons, Kan. to Mr. and Mrs. Daniel Harris [Isabella Buddenhagen], she was a homemaker.

She married Lester W. [illiam] Hanna on Feb. 12, 1944 in Parsons.

Mrs. Hanna was a member of the United Brethren Church, Parsons.

She was preceded in death by two brothers and two sisters.

Survivors include her husband, of the home; one son, Richard Hanna, Maryville; one daughter, Marilyn Kelly, Crystal Lake, Ill.; two sisters, Isabelle Morrissey, Parsons and Ethel Harris, Dixon, Ill. and five grandchildren. 

Visitation will be held from 7 to 8 p.m. Friday at Price Funeral Home Chapel, Maryville.

Services will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday at Price Funeral Home Chapel, Maryville, with burial at Nodaway Memorial Gardens, Maryville.

Rita Kay Hannas, 54, Kansas City, died Thursday, February 4, 1993 at her home.

Born in Maryville, she lived in St. Joseph, Iowa City, Iowa; Columbia; Evanston, Ill., and Austin, Texas. She moved to Kansas City 17 years ago.

She was a registered nurse and a volunteer at St. Joseph Health Center and formerly worked at Research Medical Center.

Mrs. Hannas was a member of the Red Bridge Methodist Church and the auxiliaries of the American, Missouri and Jackson County medical associations.

She attended the St Joseph Hospital School of Nursing, Kansas City and was a 1959 graduate of the St. Teresa's College School of Nursing Kansas City.

Survivors include her husband, Dr. R. R. Hannas Jr., of the home; her mother; Loree Jackson, Maryville and one brother, Fred G. Jackson, Fort Madison, Iowa.

Graveside services were held today at Mount Moriah Cemetery, Kansas City.

Memorials may be made to the St. Joseph Health Center Foundation.

Services were under the direction of McGilley State Line Chapel, Kansas City.

Harper died Monday, May 13, 1991, at St. Francis Hospital, Maryville. Burial was at Nodaway Memorial Gardens.

Wilma Irene Hefley, 70, North Kansas City, died Friday, May 3, 1991 at Kansas University Medical Center.

Born Oct. 14, 1920 in Pattonsburg to George Clarence and Etta Viola Sweat Musick, she was a homemaker. She married Ora Marion Hefley on Oct. 16,1935.  

Survivors include her husband, of the home; a daughter and son-in-law, Carole and Donald L. Reese, Maryville; a son and daughter-in-law, Steve and Pat Hefley, Cherokee, Kan.; four grandchildren; a sister, Alice Wilson, Pattonsburg; and a brother, Olin Musick, Linwood, Kan., who has since died.

Services were held May 6, at Roberson-Polley Funeral Home, Pattonsburg. Burial was at Oak Ridge Cemetery, Pattonsburg.

Mrs. Joseph Lager Is Taken by Death

Mrs. Joseph Lager [Mary Magdeline Stoll], Conception Junction, who would have been 54 years of age had she lived until Jan. 21, died at 9:15 a. m. today at the St. Francis hospital. She had suffered a stroke of paralysis six weeks ago and a second one Sunday.

Born Jan. 21, 1899, at Clyde, daughter of Joseph and Anna [Sellmier] Stoll, Mrs. Lager had lived her entire life in Jefferson Township. She was married Sept. 5, 1916, at Clyde to Mr. Lager, who survives.

Other survivors include eight children, Sylvester Lager, Kansas City, Vitus of Maryville, Leonard of Columbus, Ohio, Harold of Stanberry, Bernard of Elmo, Joseph, jr. of the home; Mrs. Sylvester Arends of Chicago; Mrs. Robert Jahl of Tonganoxie, Kas., 15 grandchildren, her mother, Mrs. Joseph Stoll of Clyde and the following brothers: Matt Stoll, Elmo, Mike, John and Alphonse Stoll, Clyde; Francis, Robert and Charles Stoll, Conception Junction.

The body is at the Phillips mortuary in Stanberry and will be taken to the family home tomorrow where it will be in state from 4 p. m. The services will be held at 9 Saturday at the Holy Family Church of Conception Junction, in charge of the Rev. Fr. Louis Meyer,  O. S. B. Burial will be in St. Columba cemetery at Conception.

Emery Larson

Emery Rassmus Larson, 85, Bolckow, died Sunday, February 7, 1993 at Heartland Hospital West, St. Joseph.

Born Aug. 29, 1907 in Shelby County, Iowa to George and Anna Rasmussen Larson, he was a farmer and stockman and night watchman for the Fur Company, Guilford.

He attended rural school in Shelby County.  

Mr. Larson was baptized at the Bethlehem Lutheran Church, Jacksonville, Iowa, on Dec. 8,1907 and was confirmed on April 23, 1923. He was a member of the Shorthorn Cattle Association.

He was preceded in death by his parents and one brother.

Survivors include one sister, Beulah Cole; one niece, Anna Mae Cole; one nephew, Marvin Cole; all of Blairs Mills, Pa. and two cousins, Lester Larsen, Audubon, Iowa and Mrs. Edna Larson, Harlan, Iowa.

Visitation will be held from 7 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at Price Funeral Home Chapel, Maryville.

Services will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday at the Bethlehem Lutheran Church, Jacksonville, with the Rev. Harry Kline officiating.

Mr. Larson's body will lie-in-state at the church from 1 to 2p.m. Wednesday.

Burial will be at Jacksonville Cemetery.

Edward M. [ichael] Myers, 82, Lee's Summit, died Thursday, February 11,1993 at John Knox Village Care Center, Lee's Summit.

He was retired in 1975 as a director of research and development at the Certain/Teed Products.

Mr. Myers was a 1936 graduate of MU- Columbia; attended MIT and the University of Wisconsin.

He was a member of the American Chemical Society; Acoustical of America; American Institute of Physics; Delta Sigma Phi; Masonic Lodge No 470, Maryville; Scottish Rite; Aarot Shrine; Tribe of Mic-O-Say; John Knox Village board; Lee's Summit Hospital board; Venture Club of Kansas City and the First Presbyterian Church, Lee's Summit.

Mr. Myers was superintendent of the water department in Maryville and Fort Scott, Kan.

Survivors include his wife, Ruth Cramer Myers, of the home; two sons, Howard Myers, Mountain Lakes, N. J. and George Myers, Parkville and three grandchildren.

Family will visit with friends from 2 to 4 p.m. Sunday at the Villager Inn, John Knox Village in the banquet room.

Mrs. O'Banion was of the Christian faith.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband and two sisters.

Survivors include two daughters, Twilah Mohr and Pauline Talmadge, both of Stanberry; two grandchildren; three great-grandchildren and two great great grandchildren.

Services were held today at Johnson Funeral Home Chapel, Stanberry.

Albert Stoll, 82, Stanberry, died Tuesday, May 21,1991, at Gentry County Community Hospital, Albany.    

Born Feb. 18,1909 near Clyde to Joseph and Anna Sellmier Stoll, he was a retired farmer. He was a member of St. Peter's Parish, Stanberry.

He married Maude Schneider on July 10,1929 in Omaha, Neb.

Stoll was preceded in death by his parents, six brothers and three sisters.

Survivors include his wife, of the home; a son, Leroy Stoll, Ravenwood; a daughter, Maxine Crail, Maryville; three brothers, Mike and Alphonse Stoll, both of Maryville, Francis Stoll, Conception Junction; five grandchildren; three great-grandchildren.

Services will be held at 10 a.m. Thursday at St. Peter's Catholic Church, Stanberry, with the Rev. Joel Derks officiating. Burial will be at Mt. Calvary Cemetery, Stanberry.

Visitation is currently under way at Price Funeral Home Chapel, Maryville. A Rosary will be said at 7 tonight at the funeral home.

The body will lie-in-state at the church one hour prior to the service.

Joseph F. Stoll Dies; Funeral to Be Saturday

Joseph F. Stoll, a 78-year-old farmer of Conception, died at 2 o’clock this morning at the St. Francis hospital where he had been a patient the past 10 days. He was born in [Wolenzack, Bavaria] Germany in [March 14] 1870 and came to this country when he was 17 years of age. He settled in Shelby county, Iowa, and came to Missouri in 1896.

Funeral services will be held at 9 o’clock Saturday morning at St. Benedict’s church at Clyde. Burial will be in St. Columba cemetery at Conception.

He is survived by his wife [Anna Sellmier]; one daughter, Mrs. Joseph [Frederick] Lager [Mary Magdeline], Clyde; eight sons, Matthew [Thomas] Stoll, Elmo; John [Leo], Michael, Albert and Francis Stoll, Clyde; Charles and Robert Stoll, Conception Junction, and Alphonse Stoll of the home; one brother and three sisters in Germany; and one brother at Yankton, S. D.; 44 grandchildren and 9 great-grandchildren.

Elaine Beverly Wake, 60, Sheridan, died Sunday, February 7, 1993 in Maryville.

She was born oh April 18,1932 in Carpenter, Wyo. to Ray and Leona Mayfield Cordell.

Mrs. Wake married Stanton C. Wake on July 5, 1949 in Maryville.

She was a member of the Gaynor Church and attended the Sheridan Christian Church.

Mrs. Wake is survived by her husband, of the home; her mother, Maryville; two daughters, Sharon Miller, Sheridan and Garland Owens, Fairfield, Calif.; one son, Harold Wake, Sheridan; two sisters, Irene Florea, Perry, Iowa and Evelyn Brown, Lamont, Colo.; two brothers, John Cordell, Parnell and Eldon Cordell, Hopkins; eight grandchildren and one great-grandson.

Services will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday at Prugh-Dunfee Funeral Home, Grant City.

Burial will be at Isadora Cemetery, Grant City.

Mr. Yount died Jan. 26 in Oklahoma City, Okla.
