Services for John M. [errill] "Jack" Carmichael, 86, Pickering, were held Saturday at Price Funeral Home Chapel, Maryville, with the Rev, Joyce Nicholas officiating.

Carmichael died Wednesday, May 15,1991 in Maryville. Burial was at Nodaway Memorial Gardens Cemetery, Maryville.

Deanna Hilton served as organist and Craig Bottiger, as vocalist.

Pallbearers were Tom Steins, Mike Morton, Don O'Riley, Joe Stafford, Otto Bleich II and Eddie Leaverton.

Ira Osrow Carr, 90, Conception Junction, died Saturday, May 18, 1991 at Parkdale Manor Nursing Home, Maryville.

Born Sept 27,1900 in Maryville to Clayton Charles and Anna Belle Davison Carr; he was a retired fanner and had worked for Nodaway County ASCS office. He was a member of the Disciples of Christ Christian Church

He was once married to Edna V. Coulter. He married Amanda Adeline Pope on Aug. 12,1942 in Troy, Kan.

He was preceded in death by his first wife, two brothers and two sisters.

Survivors include his wife, Amanda, Maryville; three daughters, Ruth Lindsey, Tucson, Iris Davison, Savannah, and Marillyn Smith, Liberty; a son, Kenneth, Quitman; two brothers, Truman, Maryville, and Charles, St. Joseph; four sisters, Marjorie Hardin, Maryville, Hazel Nichols, St. Joseph, Iona Scheriff, Worthington, Minn., and Neola Issacson, San Juan, Texas; seven grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; six step great-grandchildren; and two step great great-grandchildren.

Services will be held at 2 p.m. Tuesday at Price Funeral Home Chapel, Maryville, with the Rev. Dr. Donald Childers officiating. Burial will be at Oak Hill Cemetery, Maryville.

Visitation will be held from 7 to 8 tonight at the funeral home.

Loretta Inez Ebrecht Chase, 43, Huntsville, died Sunday, May 19, 1991 at University Hospital, Columbia.  

Born March 16,1948 to James S. and Loretta Ebrecht, she lived in Maryville for all but the last 10 months of her life. She married Jerry Chase.

She was preceded in death by her father.

Survivors include four children, Rose Marie Doolin, Kansas City, Ricky, Sam and Tim Doolin, all of Maryville; husband; mother, a sister, Patty Morlock; four brothers, Jim Ebrecht, Maryville, John Ebrecht, Ravenwood, Dennis Ebrecht, Hopkins, and Don Ebrecht, Nevada; and two granddaughters.

Services will be at 1 p.m. Wednesday at First Baptist Church, Huntsville. Burial will be at Mount Salmon Cemetery, Huntsville.

Memorials may be made to American Cancer Society or Laura Street Baptist Church Building Fund.

Wilford Ecker, 77, Clearmont, died Wednesday, July 12, 1995, at his home.

Born March 31, 1918, in Elmo, to Amos Robert and Ruth A. Daniel Ecker, he had retired after 21 years at Swift & Company, in south Omaha, Neb.

Mr. Ecker was a graduate of the former Mt. Tabor School District in rural Elmo. He resided from 1951 to 1980 in the Council Bluffs, Iowa area before moving to Clearmont 15 years ago.

He was preceded in death by his father.

Survivors include his mother of Maryville; three sons, V. Eugene Ecker of Council Bluffs, Iowa, Loren W. Ecker of Richmond, Calif., and Ronald D. Ecker of Seattle; three daughters, Phyllis Jean Armstrong of Richmond, Calif., Darlene Ruth Ecker of Council Bluffs, Iowa, and Dorothy Marie Ecker of Pisgah, Iowa; and several nieces and nephews.

Visitation is currently underway at Price Funeral Home, Maryville.

Graveside services will be held at 10 a. m., Thursday, at Maple Hill Cemetery, College Springs, Iowa.

Services are under the direction of Price Funeral Home, Inc., Maryville.

C. [lyde] Richard "Dick" Ferguson, 55, Atlantic, Iowa, died Wednesday, May 15,1991.

Born Jan. 26,1936 in Montrose to Paul Richard and Aileen I. Brown Ferguson, he was raised in Clearmont. He graduated in 1954 from Northwest Missouri State University. He moved to Atlantic, Iowa in 1956 and was employed as draftsman for Henningsen Construction for 21 years. He married Shirley [Jean] Blackford on Aug. 24,1957 in Clearmont. They owned and operated Taco Del Sol, now La Casa Grande for over 11 years. He was a member of First Baptist Church, Atlantic, Iowa, and BPOE.

Ferguson was preceded in death by a father-in-law and a brother-in-law.

Survivors include his wife; a daughter, Tammie Cass, Fontanelle, Iowa; a son, Kevin, Bentley, Iowa; three grandchildren, Kelsie Cass, Fontanelle, Iowa, Shelbie and Andrew Ferguson, both of Bentley, Iowa; parents, Maryville; two sisters, Lois Slaten, Blockton, Iowa, and Audria Humphrey, Clearmont; mother-in-law, Ruth Blackford, Atlantic, Iowa; aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and cousins.  

Services were held Friday at First Baptist Church, Atlantic, Iowa, with the Revs. Laura Lee Strawser and Ray Strawser officiating. Burial was at Atlantic Cemetery, Atlantic, Iowa.

Jan Highfill served as organist, and Dave and Jan Highfill and Ray and Laura Lee Strawser provided vocal music.

Honorary pallbearers were Clayton Ellingson, Darrell Staley, Del Neary, Ron Zike, Lee Landon, Clarence Bartels, Eugene Curtis and Ron O'Connell.

Pallbearers were Ron Just, Bill Humphrey, Fred Stuetelberg, Jack Camp, John Cohrs, Gilbert Schmeling.

Vincent Warren Hall, 67, Maryville, died Friday, May 17, 1991 at St. Francis Hospital, Maryville.

Born July 18,1923 in Worth to Charles Elmer and Lilly Ann Norman Hall, he was a retired Missouri Highway Department employee, having served 26 years. He graduated from Worth County High School and served with the United States Army during World War II.

He was a member, deacon and trustee of Laura Street Baptist Church, Maryville; a member of IOOF, St. Joseph, American Legion Post No. 100, Maryville, Disabled Veterans of America, Missouri Highway Department Employees Association, and a former board member and trustee of Miriam Cemetery Association.

He married Ruth Shannon on July 29, 1944 in Troy, Kan.

Hall was preceded in death by his parents and an infant sister.

Survivors include his wife, of the home; two daughters, Margaret Collier, Maryville, Hazel Cummings, St. Joseph; three grandchildren, Annette Bennington and Tina Cummings, both of St. Joseph, and Brent Collier, Milford, Neb.; three great-grandchildren; an aunt, Emil Owens, Grant City; and nieces and nephews.

Services were held at 3 p.m. today at Price Funeral Home, Maryville, with the Revs. Paul McKim, Victor Bollinger and Greg Fiebig officiating. Burial will be at Miriam Cemetery, Maryville.

Memorials may be made to the Laura Street Baptist Church Building Fund.

Hail died Friday, May 17, 1991. Burial was at Miriam Cemetery, Maryville.  

Ann Collins played the keyboard and Glenn Raines and Bob Huffman were vocalists.

[Henry] Edison Hanna, 82, Maryville, died Friday, May 17,1991.

Born Aug. 19,1908 in Pickering to John Henry and Lizzie Neal Hanna, his occupation was bridge construction. He worked for himself and with Charles Hollensbe.

He married Bernice Vesta Hollensbe on Jan. 1,1930 in Savannah.

Hanna was preceded in death by two daughters, three brothers and four sisters. 

Survivors include his wife, of the home; two sons, Raymond [Edison], Maryville, and David [Eugene], St. Joseph; a daughter, Karen Faris, Gretna, Neb.; 10 grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; a sister, [Amanda] Ethelyn Freese, Monroe, Wis.; nieces and nephews.

Services will be held at 1:30 p.m. Monday at Price Funeral Home Chapel, Maryville, with the Rev. Joyce Nicholas officiating. Burial will be at Nodaway Memorial Gardens Cemetery, Maryville.

Visitation will be from 7 to 8 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to American Cancer Society, American Heart Association and American Kidney Foundation.

Donna Rose Hesse, 55, Council Bluffs, Iowa, formerly of Burlington Junction, died Sunday, July 9, 1995, in Omaha, Neb.

Ms. Hesse was born Oct. 16, 1939 in Burlington Junction, to Hollis and Mella Thompson.

Survivors include six sisters: Juanita Owens of Council Bluffs, Betty King of Council Bluffs, Leila Henry of Oklahoma, Carolyn Strong of Macedonia, Iowa, Lawanda Mason of Savannah and Lillian True of Idaho; three brothers, Junior Thompson of Coin, Iowa, Charles Thompson of Oklahoma, and Bill Thompson of Blanchard, Iowa; and numerous nieces and nephews.

A memorial service was held at the Meyer Funeral Home, Council Bluffs, Iowa.

The body was cremated.

Graveside services will be held at a later date at the Memorial Gardens Cemetery, Maryville.

Max Hoffman

Max Gerald Hoffman, 58, Kansas City, formerly of Burlington Junction, died Friday, July 14, 1995, at his home.

Born Sept. 17, 1936, in Burlington Junction, to Fred and Helen Westfall Hoffman, he was retired from the Burlington Northern Railroad in 1994, after 32 years of service.

Mr. Hoffman was a 1954 graduate of the Burlington Junction High School. He served in the U. S. Navy as a radioman on a minesweeper in the Pacific Ocean, from 1959 to 1962.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

He is survived by one son, Barry L. Hoffman of Kansas City; and one daughter, Lisa H. Hoffman, of the home in Kansas City.

A memorial service will be held at 11 a. m., July 29, 1995, at the Barr-Merrick Funeral Chapel, Burlington Junction.

Memorials are suggested to the “Dream Factory.”

John Middleton, 68, Maryville, died Thursday, May 16, 1991 at St. Francis Hospital, Maryville.

Born July 5, 1922 in Maryville to Charles and Myrtle Seales Middleton, he was a retired sheriff of Nodaway County. He served with the United States Army during World War II.

He married Margaret Rhinehart on June 15, 1949 in Chillicothe, and he married Helen Ilene Tatum Black in Maryville on Sept. 10, 1977.

Middleton was preceded in death by his first wife and a brother.

Survivors include his wife, Helen; a son, David, Maryville; five grandchildren; two sisters, Gertrude Reynolds, Maryville, and Betty Lynch, Great Bend, Kan.; nieces and nephews; and a stepdaughter, Donna Dack, Ravenwood.

Services will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday at Price Funeral Home with the Rev. Greg Fiebig officiating. Burial will be at Miriam Cemetery, Maryville.

Visitation will be held from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. today at the funeral home.

Memorials may be made to American Heart Association.

Born Jan. 9, 1927 in Guilford to Allison and Lula [Sivilla] Gleaves Minshall, she was a schoolteacher.

Lloyd Morrison

Lloyd L. Morrison, Golden, Colo., died Saturday, May 11, 1991, at a hospital in Denver.

Born Aug. 13,1927 in Stanberry to Dallas J. and Grace Coburn Morrison, he was a heavy equipment engineer for the United States Army and Bureau of Land Management. He also served with the Army and the U.S. Navy during World War II. Morrison graduated from Stanberry High School in 1944 and he was a member of Christian Church and American Legion, both of Stanberry.

He married Joan Leahy in Rockville, Md. He also lived in Alexandria, Va., Aberdeen, Md., and Stanberry.

Morrison was preceded in death by his father.

Survivors include his wife, Golden, Colo.; four sons, Dennis, St. Louis, David, Lakewood, Colo., Donald, Tucson, and Daniel, Golden, Colo.; three daughters, Dorene Queen and Donna Strong, both of Golden, Colo., and Dana Ellis, Westminster, Colo.; mother, Maryville; a sister, Lola Swartz, Lexington; two brothers, John A., Holt, and Marvin, Savannah; eight grandchildren.

Services were held Wednesday, May 15, 1991 at Woods Mortuary Chapel, Golden, Colo. Burial was at Mount Olivet Cemetery, Wheatridge, Colo. Military services were conducted by American Legion of Golden, Colo.

Earle Moss Sr.

Earle M. [ayo] Moss Sr., 91, Maryville, died Monday, May 20,1991.

Born Feb. 11, 1900 in Amherst, Wis. to Lewis John and Daisy Belle Starks, he was a retired bandmaster for circus bands. He began composing and writing music at the age of 13 for his family band. As Circus Bandmaster, he traveled nationwide with Hagen, Back and Wallace Circus. He also worked with Merle Evans for the Ringling Brothers Circus. He was also director of music for Neal O'Brien Minstrel Show. He was chief music arranger for Radio City Music Hall in New York and arranged music for "Hell's A Poppin", "Brigadoon," and "Cabin in the Sky."

He played in many bands in New York and Indianapolis, where he performed with the Charlie Davis Orchestra.  

He was a member of Windjammers Hall of Fame, being the 17th circus band director to be inducted; and the Alcoyne Lodge AF & AM, North Port, N. Y.

He married Marion Potter in 1938.

Survivors include his wife, Lake Worth, Fla.; two sons, Earle I., Maryville, and Robert M., Fremont, Calif.; a daughter, Elizabeth S. Moss, New York, N.Y.; six grandchildren; and a great-grandchild.

Helen L. [ouise] Shipley Myers, 87, Skidmore, died Saturday, July 15, 1995, at St. Francis Hospital, Maryville.

Born in Richmond [Howard County, Missouri], she had lived in St. Joseph since 1925 and had resided in Skidmore the past several months. She had formerly been a telephone operator for Southwestern Bell Telephone Company for seven years and was later employed in the binder department of Westlab for 13 years.

She married T. [heodore] Kelsey Myers, March 26, 1983.

Ms. Myers was a member of Patee Park Baptist Church, the Adult Sunday School Class, the Women’s Missionary Union, and the Kitchen Band of the church; the American Association of Retired Persons; the Joyce Raye Patterson Senior Citizens Center, where she was a member of the Sing-A-Ling Band; and was president of the Skidmore Bingo Club.

She was preceded in death by her first husband, James E. [dward] Shipley; two sisters, Hazel Rosen and Nancy Rainey; three brothers, Sam Blair, Ed Blair and J. Frederick Blair; one grandson; and a great granddaughter.

Survivors include her husband of the home; four sons, James Blair Shipley of St. Joseph, J. Leroy Shipley of Kansas City; George Frederick Shipley of Brazoria, Texas, and David Dee Shipley of St. Charles; two stepsons, Ted Myers of Skidmore, and Rollin Myers of Kansas City; two step-daughters, Loretta Abbott of Belleville, Ill., and Sharon Peck of Skidmore; 11 grandchildren; 15 step-grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; 22 step-great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; and several nieces and nephews.

Family visitation will be held from 7 to 8:30 p. m., Tuesday at Meierhoffer-Fleeman Funeral Home, St. Joseph.

Burial will be in Ashland Cemetery, St. Joseph.

Services are under the direction of Meierhoffer-Fleeman Funeral Home, Inc., St. Joseph.

Linda Bouska Richardson, 47, Central Lake, Mich., died Thursday, May 16,1991.  

She formerly lived in Maryville and was a 1965 graduate of Northwest Missouri State University, majoring in art. She taught in the public schools of Central Lake, Mich., since 1965.

She married Dennis Richardson in 1967.

Survivors include her husband, two sons, Dean and Michael; her mother, Virginia Bouska; and an aunt, Susan Bouska, Kansas City.

Memorial services will be held Tuesday in Central Lake, Mich

Services for Laruth [La Ruth] M. [abel] “Dolly” Satterwhite, 80, Columbia, were held Tuesday, July 18, 1995, at Immanuel Church of Christ, Sedalia, with the Rev. Virginia Beth Feerer officiating.

Ms. Satterwhite died July 16, 1995, at St. Francis Hospital, Maryville.

Born Oct. 15, 1914, in Sedalia, to Joseph T. and Pauline Steffens Heerman, she was a homemaker, legal secretary and senior secretary for the Plant Pathology Department of the University of Missouri-Columbia.

Ms. Satterwhite was a graduate of Smith Cotton High School, Sedalia, and Sedalia Business College. She was a member of the Columbia United Church of Christ and the O. E. S. of Sedalia.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband [Lloyd William Satterwhite]; and two brothers, Paul and Harold Heerman.

Survivors include one son, James J. Satterwhite of Madison, Conn.; one daughter, Kay Thomson of Maryville; four grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; and nieces and nephews.

Burial was in Memorial Park Cemetery, Sedalia.

Memorials may be made to the United Church of Christ, Columbia.

Services were under the direction of Price Funeral Home, Inc., Maryville.

Eugene C. [harles] Still, 71, Parnell, died Monday, May 20,1991, at St. Francis Hospital, Maryville.

Born April 23,1920 in Clearmont to Charles [Irwin] and Lena [Helena Johanna] From Still, he was a retired sausage maker and meat packer. He worked for Maryville and Nodaway Packing for many years and for himself. He served with the Marine Corp. during World War II.

He was a member of the Roman Catholic faith, St. Joseph's Parish, Parnell, James Edward Gray Post No. 100, Maryville, and VFW Post No. 442.

He married Beulah Irene Crenshaw on Aug. 26, 1940 in Parnell.

Survivors include his wife, of the home; a son, Richard, Sedalia; three daughters, Virginia Brown, Parnell, Jo Ann Tibbetts, Sedalia, and Betty Burchett, Grinnell, Iowa; mother, Maryville; four brothers, Marion and Bob, both of Maryville, and Kenneth and Sam, both of Conception Junction; 11 grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; nieces and nephews.

Services will be held at 10 a.m. Wednesday at St. Joseph Catholic Church, Parnell, with the Rev. Rene Guesnier officiating. Burial will be at St. Joseph Cemetery, Parnell.

Visitation is currently under way at Price Funeral Home, Maryville. A rosary will be said at 7 p.m. Tuesday at the church.

Merlin VanFossen

Merlin [Wallace] VanFossen, 72, Hopkins, died Tuesday, March 19,1991, at St. Francis Hospital, Maryville.

Born July 26,1918 to Benjamin [Wallace] and Mae Hodgin VanFossen in Linn County, Iowa, he was a retired farmer. He graduated from Sheffield, Iowa High School in 1936, and served with the U.S. Army during World War II. He farmed in the Sheffield, Iowa area with his brother, Robert, until moving to Hopkins in 1956.

Mr. VanFossen was preceded in death by two brothers, three sisters and his parents.

Survivors include a brother, Richard, Pickering; two nieces, Bonnie Tagesen, Rudd, Iowa, and Bernita Schadt, Sheffield, Iowa; a nephew, Byron VanFossen, Towanda, Kan.; four great-nieces; six great-nephews.

Services will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, March 23, at Swanson-Price Chapel, Hopkins. Burial will be at White Oak Cemetery, Pickering.

Visitation will begin after 10 a.m. Friday at Swanson-Price Chapel, Hopkins.
