James Nicholas - Services for James L. Nicholas, 77, Tuscon, Ariz., were held Tuesday, Sept 4, at Emmanuel Baptist Church, Tuscon.

Mr Nicholas died Sept 2, 1990, in Tuscon, He was born on Oct 20, 1912 in West Plains, and lived in the Nodaway County area for approximately 20 years before being drafted for World War II where he served as a mechanic.

He is survived by his wife, Iris, Tuscon; a brother, Cecil, Hopkins; a sister, Vera Mae Snodderley, Tuscon; a son, Ronald, Fort Leavenworth, Kan; a daughter, Patricia Mayes, Hebron, Ind; and three grandchildren.

Burial was at the National Memorial Cemetery, Phoenix, with the Rev Dr Wayne North officiating. Maryville Forum, Sept 27, 1990

Mrs Jim (Nora) Nicholas, 85, died Friday at the hospital at Kirksville, Mo, and funeral services are being held this Monday afternoon at the Braddyville Christian Church.

She was formerly Nora Thompson, born at Hopkins, Mo, one of ten children of Mary Moore and William J. Thompson. Her husband preceded her in death after the couple had spent their lives in the Hopkins and Braddyville vicinities.

Two sons are Harold of Kirksville, Mo and Clair of Romulus, Mich. She has seven grandchildren and several great grandchildren. Her two sisters are Miss Jessie Thompson of Braddyville and Mrs Ollie Nicholas of Hopkins.

She has lived for four years in a Kirksville nursing home. Her burial is to be in the Braddyville Cemetery. Clarinda Herald Journal, Mar 25, 1968

Leland M. Nicholas, 78, Pickering, died Monday, December 7, 1992 at St Francis Hospital, Maryville [Missouri].

Born April 25, 1914 in Burlington Junction to P.D. and Nellie Sexton Nicholas, he was a retired Clerk of the Circuit Court, Nodaway County.

He married Ruby Jones on May 6, 1934 in Maryville, who preceded him in death in 1977. He then married Joyce Elaine Young on Dec 9, 1979 in Pickering.

Mr Nicholas was owner and operator of the "Nicholas Store" in Pickering for several years.

He was a graduate of the Burlington Junction High School and was a member of the Methodist Church, Pickering; Pickering Lions Club, The Men's Forum, Maryville; the Xenia Lodge No 50 AF & AM, Hopkins; Moila Shrine, St Joseph and Scottish Rites Bodies, St Joseph [Missouri].

Mr Nicholas was also preceded in death by his parents and one brother.

Survivors include his wife, Joyce, of the home; one daughter, Betty Joe Schuler, Jefferson City; one sister, Marjorie Boyer, Pensacola, Fla; one sister-in-law, Agnes Nicholas, Iowa Park, Texas; two grandsons; and four great-granddaughters.

Visitation will be held from 7 to 8 pm Wednesday at Price Funeral Chapel, Maryville.

Services will be held at 2 pm Thursday at the First United Methodist Church, Maryville, with the Revs Charles Young, Glen Wiggs, Kent Mercer and Dan Evans.

Burial will be at Nodaway Memorial Gardens, Maryville.

Memorials may be made to the Pickering Lions Club Building Fund.

Services are under the direction of Price Funeral Home, Maryville.

Ruby L. Nicholas, 59, St Joseph [Missouri], died Wednesday, May 12, 1993, at her home. Her mother, Florence A. Rouse of Oregon is among survivors. Funeral services and burail were held May 14 in St Joseph. Mound City News Independent, May 20, 1993

Lottie M. Short, 85, of Haven Home of Kenesaw, Nebraska, died December 9, 2000 at Haven Home. Chapel service will be Wednesday, December 13, 2000; 1:00 P.M. at Price Funeral Home Maryville, Missouri with Dr. Franklin Marlin officiating. Burial will be in Nodaway Memorial Gardens, Maryville, Missouri.

Lottie M. Short was born February 22, 1915 in Barnard, Missouri to John & Mertie O. (Mathers) Furlong. She graduated from Barnard High School, Bernard, Missouri. She married A. Allen short of Maryville, Missouri on September 30, 1933 and he preceded her in death in 1999.

Lottie was a LPN at St. Francis Hospital in Maryville, Missouri and also a private duty nurse. She was a member of the Methodist Church and Rebekah Lodge, both in Maryville, Missouri. She and her husband moved to Hastings, Nebraska in 1994.
