Joseph David Adams, age 53 died at his home in Sheridan, Missouri, Saturday, June 26, 2010.

 He was born November 22, 1956 in Kansas City, Missouri.  His parents were Charley Burnadeen and Alta Fern Richardson Adams.  Charley preceded him in death in 2002.

Joe was an auto mechanic and had previously worked for Rosecrans Chevrolet, Hopkins and was the manager of the Sheridan Gas Station.  Joseph at one time held the honor of being the youngest Missouri Vehicle Inspector in the state at 16 years of age.  He had also worked for Bluestem Seed Company, Allendale, Missouri. 

 He was a member of the Gold Prospecting Association of America, Platte City Chapter and the Freedom of the Road Riders, Maryville Chapter.

 He is survived by his companion Marly Zieckler of the home, Sheridan; daughter Ashley Adams, Sheridan; son Benjamin David (Lisa) Adams, Ames, IA; Mother, Alta Adams, Hopkins; 3 sisters, Charlene (Carroll) Gladman, Hopkins, Phyllis Klukis, Bethany, IL, Connie (Ed) Reidel, Crescent City, CA; and several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 AM, June 30, Wednesday at the Wray Memorial United Methodist Church, Hopkins with a visitation prior to the service from 9:30-10:30 AM.  Burial: White Oak Cemetery, Pickering, MO.  A memorial has been established in Joseph's name.

Helen Caroline Blackney, 82, of Maryville, Missouri (formerly of Hopkins, Missouri) died Thursday, May 27, 2010 at Golden Living Center, Maryville, Missouri.

She was born November 6, 1927 in rural Ravenwood, the daughter of Otha Richard and Stella Marie (Wilson) McDowell. Caroline graduated from Pickering High School in Pickering, Missouri. She married Lewis Shelton Blackney on June 28, 1946 in Troy Kansas.

Caroline was a member of the Hopkins Christian Church, Hopkins, the Order of the Eastern Star and she was a very active member of the Nodaway County Women’s Democratic Club, serving on the Election Committee.

She was a homemaker who enjoyed her family, her flowers and playing bingo and cards with family and friends. She will be remembered as a very loving mother, grandmother and a devoted friend.

Preceding her in death were her husband, Lewis Blackney (July 18, 2004); parents; a brother: Wilson McDowell and sisters, Lauretta Ringgold and an infant.

Survivors include her son, Lewis E (Jo) Blackney, Clearmont, Missouri; grandchildren: Michael Lewis (Dawn) Blackney, Maryville; Shannon (Adam) Bean, Maryville; Joey (Cindy) Hamilton , New Market, Iowa; Kari Reynolds and Brandi Glidden, Maryville; four great-grandchildren: Alex Bean, Myles Blackney, Brayden Reynolds and Rosie Hamilton.

Born on September 24, 1938 in Starkville, MS to the late Robert & Irene (Andrews) Blankenship.

Jim married Joyce Elaine (Haist) on June 18, 1966 in Kansas City, KS.

He attended the Curtis Chapel Church in Starksville many years ago. He was a veteran of the United States Navy from 1956 to 1960. He retired in 1996 after 35 years of service as a supervisor of Warehouse & Shipping at Owen-Corning Fiberglass, Kansas City, KS.

He is survived by his wife Joyce Blankenship, Barnard; brother, Bobby & Gloria Blankenship, Starkville, MS; brother-in-law Larry & Elaine Haist, Barnard, MO; sister-in-law Bonnie & Wayne Collins, Barnard, MO; half-brother Billy Blankenship, Starkville, MS; half-sister Angie McGinness, Starkville, MS; and cousin Barney & Rosemary Smith, Iola, KS, and also numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and his little dog Missy. He is preceded in death by his parents, Ruby Sanders in 2000, Helen Weathers in 2007, niece Terri Blankenship, and sister-in-law Sara Blankenship in 1987.

Mary Evelyn Sumy Florea Carpenter, 80, Agency, Missouri, died Friday, July 2, 2010, at Abbey Woods Living and Rehab Center, Saint Joseph, Missouri.

Mary was born November 22, 1929, in Sheridan, Missouri, the daughter of William and Neva Sparks Sumy. She married Orville Wayne Florea September 5, 1951, in Maryville, Missouri. He preceded her in death March 24, 1997. On November 15, 1998, she married Virgil Edward Carpenter in Maryville. He survives at the home in Agency.

She and her first husband co-owned and operated Florea Conoco Station in Maryville for 30 years.

Mary was a member of the Pickering, Missouri Christian Church and a former member of the Order of Eastern Star.

Leona Mae Clements, 77, Barnard, Missouri died Monday, June 28, 2010, at St Luke’s Hospital, Kansas City, Missouri.

 She was born July 29, 1932, in Independence, Iowa, the daughter of Martin and Hazel Mary (Hamilton) Fenton.  Leona married Billy Clements November 11, 1950 in Hiawatha, Kansas.

 A homemaker, Leona, retired from Eveready in Maryville, Missouri.

 Preceding her in death were her husband: Billy Clements (October 3, 1982); a son: Terry Clements (May 26, 2004) and her parents.

Velma Pauline “Polly” Conrad 93, Maryville, Missouri died Thursday, April 29, 2010 at Golden Living Center, Maryville.

Mrs. Conrad was born March 25, 1917 in Forest City, Missouri, the daughter of James Edward and Maude Ann (Hudgens) McFarland. Due to the death of her mother she was raised by Ersel and Orpha Carr, whom she considered her mother and father, along with their daughter Bernice Carr Hollingsworth, whom she considered her sister.

Pauline graduated from Maryville High School in Maryville and married Verlyn Conrad on September 3, 1938 in Okanagan, Washington.

A homemaker, Polly retired as a switchboard operator from General Dynamics in San Diego, California. She and Verlyn retuned to Maryville in 1980.

She was a member of First Christian Church and a former member of the James Edward Gray American Legion Post Auxiliary, Maryville.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Verlyn Conrad on October 16, 1998, her parents; brothers: Cecil, Harry, Harold and Bernard McFarland and sisters: Orpha Carr, Blanche Bassford, Buelah Kuhn, Marie Taylor and Berneice Rice.

Survivors include many generations of nieces and nephews and two brothers-in-law:Doyle Watkins and Don Hollingsworth, both of Maryville.

She was born on October 31, 1912, in Plattsburg, MO to the late Stephen & Margaret (Cooper) Haynes.

Helen married Keiran Michael Cummins in April 21, 1934 in Plattsburg, MO, who passed away in 1962.

Helen loved spending her time loving her grandchildren, making afghans for them all, sewing, tending her flower garden, and playing bridge with her many friends. Helen was a member of the Christian Faith. She served as the Nodaway County Treasurer for 8 years and was a homemaker most of her life.

She is survived by her loving children Eliza Montgomery, and husband Rick, Weatherford, TX; Cate & Jerry Kenny, Skidmore, MO; and Mike Cummins, Kansas City, KS; grandchildren Daniel & Hannah Montgomery, Jacob & Casey Kenny, and her sister-in-law Socorro, and several nieces & nephews.

Helen is preceded in death by her parents, her husband, sisters Margaret Moberly, Nancy Bohart, and Dolly Ann Griggs, and a brother Jack Haynes.

Darden, Earl LuVerne "Shorty" - Earl LuVerne "Shorty" Darden, age 89, Maryville, died Monday, June 28, 2010 at Golden Rod Care Center, Clarinda, IA.

He was born November 14, 1920, the son of the late Tony Boyd and Edna May Baker Darden in Bosworth, Missouri. 

Earl worked for Boeing Aircraft in Wichita, KS before moving to Maryville in 1950.  After moving to Maryville he enjoyed making clocks and being a watchmaker.  He had also done custom painting. 

He was a veteran of the United States Army.

His survivors include: one sister Fern Funderburk and one niece Betty Hammer, both of Clarinda, IA; one nephew Don Funderburk, Red Oak, IA and several great nieces and nephews.

Lilas Vernell Dieter 92, Prairie Village, Kansas (formerly of Maryville, Missouri) passed away Sunday, June 20, 2010, at Brighton Gardens in Prairie Village.

She was born February 6, 1918 in Lamar, Nebraska the daughter of William Asa and Ethel True (Huffman) Beers.  Lilas attended school in Stewartsville, Missouri and married Forrest Dieter on October 17, 1944 in Troy, Kansas. 

She was a telephone operator and as a result of  traveling with her husband during his career in the U S Navy she  worked in Oklahoma, California, Kansas and Missouri. 

Lilas was a member of the Community of Christ Church, Maryville and she did volunteer work for the American Red Cross.  She was also a very active worker in the kitchen of the First United Methodist Church in Maryville where she attended UMW Circle meetings regularly.

Lilas loved to bowl and did so until she was 88 years old.  She enjoyed travel and  cooking, and always made her home a welcoming haven to family and friends. 

She was preceded in death by her husband: Forrest Dieter on January 15, 2000; her parents; brothers: Harold, Lester and Chester Beers and a sister: Genevieve Beers.

 Survivors include her son and daughter-in-law: Dan and Linda Dieter, Overland Park, Kansas; a grandson: Charlie Dieter, Overland Park and a sister: Paralee Beers Newcom, Kansas City, Missouri.

Vino Eugene Ecker, 69, Clearmont, Missouri died Monday, April 19, 2010, at the Tarkio Rehab & Health Care Center, Tarkio, Missouri.

He was born April 7, 1941 in Elmo, Missouri, the son of Wilford Loren and Maxine Elizabeth (Riddle)Ecker.

A graduate of South High School, Omaha, Nebraska, Eugene was employed by Western Electric as a production worker and he was a member of the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers (IBEW) Union, Omaha.

In addition to his parents, Eugene was preceded in death by a son, Jon Ecker.

Survivors include a son: Steve Michael Ecker, Missouri Valley, Iowa; three daughters: Michelle Anne Berry, Missouri Valley; Thana Jean Hannah, Council Bluffs, Iowa, and Deborah Leah Ecker, Tucson, Arizona; ten grand-children; three great-grandchildren; two brothers: Ronald Dean Ecker, Seattle, Washington and Loren Wesley Ecker, Richmond, California; three sisters: Phyllis Jeanne Armstrong, Burney, California, Dorothy Marie Franks, Logan Iowa, and Darlene Ecker, Council Bluffs and nieces and nephews.

Mr Eckers’s body has been cremated, a private Memorial Service will be held at a later date.

Marjorie was born on May 14, 1923 in Pickering, MO., to Frank D. and Anna Leona Loch Howard. They preceded her in death. She was also preceded in death by a sister, Arcille Payton, and a brother, Francis D. Howard in infancy.

She graduated from the Hopkins High School, Hopkins, MO., and had been active in the BPW of Maryville, and the American Legion Auxiliary. She had attended the Methodist Church.

Marjorie was employed for many years as a clerk and manager for Woolworth’s in Maryville, then in Springfield, MO, and Woolco in St. Joseph, MO.

Marjorie married Milo E. Florea in Maryville, MO., he preceded her in death in 1997.

Survivors include 2 sisters, Doris Adamson, Laramie, WY, and Darlene Florea, Maryville, MO; a brother, Ronald Howard, Merriam, KS, and many nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held at 1:00 P.M. Wednesday, January 13, 2010 at the Bram Funeral Home, Maryville. The Rev. Paul McKim will be the officiant. Keith was born in Clarion, Iowa on March 10, 1926 to Paul and Golda Hecox. They preceded him in death

Shortly after graduating Clarion High School in 1944, he enlisted in the U.S. Army. He joined the Ninety Seventh Infantry Division and in February 1945 left for overseas. He landed in Laharve, France and helped clean up the Roer River Valley. From there he went into Southern Germany and finally into Czechoslovakia. Keith loved his country and was very proud to serve it.

After the war, Keith enrolled at The University of Dubuque for two years and then transferred to the University of Iowa, where he received his B.S. in business.

He married Beverly Sumners, August 12, 1951, and they were happily married until her death in 2007.

Keith and Beverly moved to Maryville where he worked for Dekalb Seed Company as a District Sales Manager, and they raised their family. Keith adored his wife and five children, and had a fond interest for farming and agriculture. His family will remember him for his kindness, affection, great sense of humor, and his extreme generosity.

He is survived by his children, Cristi (Mark) Leafstedt, Flagstaff, Arizona, Kimberly (Bill) Kincade, Council Bluffs, Iowa, Dr. William (Lan) Hecox, Springfield, Missouri, Robert (Molly) Hecox, Liberty, Missouri, Cathy Jones, Henderson, Nevada and his brother Dale Hecox.

He was a loving grandfather whose grandchildren have many wonderful memories of him. They include, Eric Kincade, Jennifer (Mark) Brown, Max Brown, Brett (Mindy) Kincade, Jason VanGundy, Paul (Sarah) Leafstedt, Ashley Leafstedt, Travis Hecox, James Blankenship, Emilee Blankenship, Paige Jones, Madeline Clem, Julia Clem, Jonathan Clem, and Isabelle Clem. His is also survived by his great grandchildren, Arriah VanGundy and Carter Leafstedt, and numerous nieces and nephews whom he loved. Keith was preceded in death by his parents, his brother Robert Hecox, and his beloved wife Beverly. He was an amazing person, who loved God, his family, friends and his country. He will be greatly missed.

Harold was preceded in death by his parents, Harvey H., and Anna M. Smith Hill, and by one brother and four sisters.

Harold and Yvonne L. Blair were married in Maryville, MO, on December 18, 1954. Yvonne passed away on December 29, 1999.

A self employed soil conservation contractor, Harold had owned and operated his own dozing business, Harold L. Hill & Sons, for many years, retiring in 2001. Harold served his country in U.S. Navy, and the U. S. Army. He was of the protestant faith.

Left to mourn his passing are his children, Marty L. Hill, Platte City, MO, Carol A. Kamtz. Liberty, MO, Sonja L. Wilmes, Maryville, MO, Leslie D. Hill, Maryville, MO, Becky A. She was born at Sheridan, MO on July 10, 1911 and moved to Maryville as an infant.

In March 1930 she married Floyd B. Houghton who preceded her in death in 1993. She was also preceded in death by her parents, Mr & Mrs. Luther Clary a brother, James Edward, and son F.B. Houghton, Jr, Sept. 25, 2009.

She is survived by her daughter-in-law Frances "Fran" Houghton, a grandson Kevin Houghton & wife Megan, and three great granddaughters, Tyler, Lauren, and Jeannine Marzella.

Mrs. Houghton was engaged in public education for many years of her adult life. She graduated in 1928 from Maryville High School when she was judged "Maryvillian Queen". She held a B.S. and M.A. Degree from NWMSU & had done graduate work at Missouri University. She was also a Learning Disability Specialist. She taught at Eugene Field Elementary School for 29 years in the 3rd grade & was in charge of the Learning Lab there for 4 years.

She was a lifelong member of the First Christian Church in Maryville having joined the church in 1920 at the age of 9. She was a member of the Retired Teachers Association in Maryville & State Retired Teachers Association. She was a member of Chapter L, P.E.O., Delta Kappa Gamma Society, Sigma Sigma Sigma Alumnas, of which she had received her 50 year Golden Violet Pin & the 75 year Sigma Sigma Sigma pin, several bridge clubs, and Club of Faculty Women. She was selected as the Grand Marshall of the 2002 NWMSU Homecoming Parade.

Mrs. Houghton has traveled extensively with her husband having visited 25 countries. In 1986 she & her husband were awarded the Turret Award by the NWMSU in recognition of their outstanding service for the University, she taught there for over 28 years.

Funeral Services will be at 10:00 AM on Saturday, June 5, 2010, at the First Christian Church, 201 W. 3rd St., Maryville, MO, with the Rev. Dale Stewart, officiating. Final Resting Place will be in the Oak Hill Cemetery, Maryville. There are no formal visitations planned, the body will be at the church at 9:00 AM.

Mack Jackson 94, Branson, Missouri, formerly of Hopkins, Missouri died May 20, 2010, at his residence of natural causes.

Mack was born February 18, 1916 in Taylor County, Iowa, on Darina Farm, which was homesteaded
by his grandfather, a portion of which remains in the family yet today. He was fourth and youngest child of Wallis and Alta Jackson.

Mack graduated 8th grade from the Valley School and graduated high school from Hopkins Community School where he played football and basketball. Mack also attended Northwest Missouri State College
3 ½ years, majoring in Industrial Arts and Agriculture. Mack’s college years were interrupted by World War II. He volunteered and served in the US Army 983rd Field Artillery Battalion air section, in the Pacific Theater, New Guinea and the Philippines 43 months ending in December 1945.

Immediately upon returning from the war, Mack married Annette Crowe to whom he was married 43 years. There were three children born to this union.

Mack returned to college and then purchased a farm adjoining Darina Farm and pursued his real passion. To supplement his farm income, Mack was involved with various sales activities including real estate, livestock supplements and life insurance. He excelled in sales, winning many trips, sales contests and in 2000, at age 84, Mack was number 3 in sales with Family Benefit Life. In his later years he lived in Kimberling City, Nixa and Hopkins, Missouri.

Mack thoroughly enjoyed gardening, training horses, traveling and church activities. He loved to assist with church activities and helping anyone who had a need. As you know, Mack’s message to all of us was always, “God loves you and so do I.”

He was preceded in death by his wife, Annette and son, Donald Jackson, brother: Merrill Jackson and sisters: Dorothy Bush and Elizabeth Jackson.

Mack is survived by two children: Mike (Carol) Jackson, Lee’s Summit, Missouri and Emma Lee (Jeff) Hurst, Branson; eleven grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.

Lois Genevee Kempf, 85, Maryville, Missouri, passed away, Saturday, April 10, 2010, at Golden Living Care Center, Maryville, Missouri.

Lois was born March 8, 1925, in Oldfield, Missouri the daughter of John and Lillie (Hall) Moore. She was a homemaker and farmer.

Lois married Rollie Reuben Kempf on November 10, 1942, in Maryville.

She was preceded in death by her parents; son: Robert Wayne (Bobby) Kempf; a granddaughter: Stephanie Lois Kempf and three brothers: Taul Moore, Louie (Web) Moore and Jim Moore.

Survivors include her husband of 67 years: Rollie Kempf, of their home in Maryville; her children: John Rollie (Betty) Kempf, Maryville; Genevee Mae (Larry) Houston, Ozark, Missouri; Clarence Richard (Thelma) Kempf, Oklahoma City, Oklahoma and Lois Juanita (Rueford) Kennedy, Maryville; twelve grandchildren; sixteen great-grandchildren; four great-great-grandchildren; three sisters-in-law; many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

Born on September 12, 1929 in Graham, MO she was the daughter of the late Harley & Thelma (Couch) Alloway.

She married Harold Dean Kenny on August 17, 1948, in Maryville, MO.

She was a member of the United Methodist Church, Graham, MO.

She was employed with the Maitland Nutrition Site and the Nodaway-Holt School Library.

She is survived by her devoted husband Harold D. Kenny, and her loving sons, Tommy D. Kenny and wife Connie, Skidmore, MO; Jerry Kenny and wife Cate, Skidmore, MO; Kurby L. and wife Marylou, Skidmore, MO. She is also survived by a brother William Glenn Alloway and wife Christine, Dana Point, CA; and a sister-in-law Helen Alloway, Austin, TX, as well as 11 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren and also survived by many nieces, nephews, and cousins.

She is preceded in death by her parents, an infant sister Anna Mae Alloway, a brother Harley Vernon Alloway, and Marshall Couch.

There will be no evening visitation.

Due to weather, the services for Mary Louise Kenny, 80 of Graham, Mo will be held on Sunday, January 10, 2010 at 2:00 PM at the Danfelt Funeral Home, Maryville. Burial will be in the Prairie Home Cemetery. There will be no visitation on viewing.

Terry was a U.S. Air Force veteran and had been an over the road truck driver for most of his life. He retired in 2008.

He married Marion Daugherty in 1956, he later married Jackie Ball in 1965. On February 14, 1973, Terry married Shirley McGinness Couch in Las Vegas, NV. She preceded him in death in 2008.

Terry is survived by two sons, Patrick Louden, Omaha, NE, and Brian Pielstick, Grand Island, NE. Daughter, Shawn Flamig, Grand Island, NE. Step-daughter, Dee Haviland, Denver, CO. Other survivors include a sister-in-law, Virginia Beal, Mound City, MO, a brother-in-law, Bob McGinness, Maryville, MO., four grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews.

Brenda Kay Nelson, 71, of Guilford, Missouri died Friday, April 16, 2010 at Parkdale Manor Care Center Maryville, Missouri.

She was born March 10, 1939 in Guilford, Missouri, the daughter of Rollin Jennings and Geraldine Josephine (Bledsoe) Hedrick. Brenda graduated from Guilford High School and attended Northwest Missouri State College, Maryville.

She married Alma Nelson Jr. in November of 1972 at Guilford, Missouri.

Mrs. Nelson was a member of the Guilford Missouri Community of Christ Church .

She co-owned and worked in Nelson’s General Store, Guilford.

An infant son and her parents preceded Brenda in death.

Survivors include her husband: Junior Nelson, of their home in Guilford; a daughter: Heather Nelson, Kansas City, Missouri; a brother: David Hedrick, Barnard, Missouri; nieces and nephews and great-nieces and great-nephews.

Louis Null, 69, of Hopkins, Missouri passed away Monday, May 3, 2010, working at the farm he so loved.

He was born September 8, 1940 in Dayton, Ohio the son of the late Paul and Emma Jane (Heston) Null. Louis was a 1958 graduate of the Springboro, Ohio High School, where he was inducted into the Basketball Hall of Fame. He then joined the U S Marine Corp. On March 2, 1963 he married Sharon Elaine Shepherd, in Carlisle, Ohio.

The Null family moved to Hopkins in 1982 after purchasing a farm there and became members of the Laura Street Baptist Church, Maryville, Missouri

Sharon died of cancer in 1988. On April 9, 1994 Louis married Beverly Miller in Savannah, Missouri. She brought four children to his family.

Survivors include his wife: Beverly Null, of their home in Hopkins; their children: Louis Heston (Donna Jean) Null, Westphalia, Missouri; Kathy (Dick) Hill, Centerville, Ohio; Kim (Joe) Brand, Salem, Missouri; Emily (Bill) Wireman, Spartanburg, South Carolina; Mitch (Barbara) Miller, Savannah, Julie (Steve) Bogart, Platte City, Missouri; Diane (Ted) Pierce and Kathy (Keith) Walsh, both of Savannah; twelve grandchildren; fourteen step-grandchildren and one great-grandchild.

Visitation is 5 - 7 pm, Friday, May 7, 2010, at Laura Street Baptist Church in Maryville with Funeral Services at 7 pm.

Janel Denise Phipps, 58 Maryville, Missouri, passed away Thursday, July 8, 2010 at Golden Living Center, Maryville. 

 She was born July 18, 1951 in Des Moines, Iowa, the daughter of Robert and Virginia (Hough) Phipps.  Janel was a 1969 graduate of North High School in Des Moines, where she attended Grandview College.  She graduated from Northwest Missouri State University, Maryville in 1975 with a degree in Psychology and Sociology.

 Janel had been a Human Resource Manager for Georgia Pacific retiring from Pope and Talbott here in Maryville. 

 She had been a member of the Highland Park Christian Church, Des Moines, a member of Soroptimist International, BPW and the Chamber of Commerce Ambassador’s Club.  Janel is named on the Memorial Wall of the Joyce and Harvey White International Plaza at Northwest Missouri State University, Maryville, Missouri.

 She was preceded in death by her father: Robert Phipps on March 4, 2000.

Janel is survived by her mother:  Virginia Phipps, of Maryville; a brother: Craig (Linda) Phipps, McLoud, Oklahoma; a niece: Kelsey Phipps, Boston Massachusetts and many other relatives and friends.

He married Phyllis Faye Lewis May 17, 1959 in Parnell.

A member of the Ravenwood Christian Church, Ravenwood, Missouri, John worked for the Chicago Northwestern Railroad retiring as a track foreman and he was a farmer.

He was preceded in death by his wife: Phyllis on November 2, 1995; a son: Joseph Bryan Price (May 23, 2001) and a granddaughter: Ashley Nicole Price (June 14, 1989).

Terrell Francis “Terry” Reynolds, 72, of Maryville, Missouri died Monday, June 1, 2010, at his home in rural Maryville.

He was born February 14, 1938 in Conception Junction, Missouri, the son of Francis Albert and Helen Magdaline (Farnan) Reynolds. After graduating from Horace Mann High School, Maryville in 1956, Terry joined the US Army.

He owned and operated “Terry’s House of Heartburn” in Maryville. Prior to that he had worked at “Helen’s Café” many years. Terry attended the Laura Street Baptist Church in Maryville.

Preceding him in death were his parents; his brother: Connie Reynolds (1951) and sister: Peggy Peery.

Survivors include his sons: Daniel Reynolds, Kansas City, Missouri and Ivan (Lindsey) Reynolds, Maryville; a daughter: Jennifer (Nathan) Vanice, Kansas City, three grandchildren: Kyle and Bret Vanice and Ashlynn Reynolds and two sisters: Judy Cordero, Kansas City and Rebecca Johnson, Harris, Missouri.

Cecilia May Roach, 86, of Shawnee, Kansas, died Sunday, July 11, 2010 at Sweet Life Rose Hill Nursing Home in Shawnee.

 She was born December 25, 1923 in Maryville, Missouri, the daughter of John and Carolena (Brunstermann) Roach.  She graduated from St. Benedict’s High School, Clyde, Missouri with the honor of Valedictorian.  She earned her BS degree in Home Economics at Mount Saint Scholastica College, Atchison, Kansas and her MA at Kansas State University, Manhattan, Kansas.

  Cecilia devoted her life to teaching school for 56 years; the first three years in rural, one room schools in Nodaway County, teaching all eight grades.  She taught Home Economics for one year in Atchison High School, Atchison, Kansas. 

 After obtaining her MA degree in Consumer Science, Apparel Merchandising and Interior Design, her academic career was nine years at Michigan State University in Lansing  and the final forty-three years as Professor Roach at Indiana University in Bloomington, where she was a dedicated teacher, mentor and undergraduate advisor.

 Cecilia was preceded in death by her parents and her brothers, Carl and Hubert Roach.

 She is survived by three brothers: Joseph (Evelyn) Roach, Denver, Colorado; Jerome “Jerry”, Roach, Wheatridge, Colorado and Paul (Linda) Roach, Shawnee, Kansas; three sisters: Rita Luke and Loretta Kissinger, Maryville and Berniece Dowell, Bethany, Missouri; a sister-in-law: Roberta Roach, Omaha, Nebraska and many nieces and nephews.

Mary Kathleen (Manning) Spire, 89, Parnell, Missouri, died Monday, May 10, 2010 at Village Care Center, Maryville, Missouri.

She was born February 24, 1921, northeast of Maryville, the daughter of Thomas and Mae (O’Connell) Manning. She attended Excelsior School and graduated from Harmony High School, Parnell.

Mary worked as a waitress and also at the country club in Denver, Colorado. She married Robert Andrew Spire at St Patrick’s Catholic Church in Maryville on March 10, 1944.

Mrs. Spire was a member of St Joseph’s Parish and St Ann’s Altar Society, Parnell. She was a homemaker, a member of the Curry, Richardson, Sparks and Waldeier American Legion Auxiliary and she had been a Red Cross Volunteer from 1968 to 1978. Mary served on the Board of the American Red Cross nearly all of that time.

Mary was preceded in death by her husband, Robert Spire (December 13, 2009); an infant daughter, Mary Ann; her parents; a brother: John Manning and grandchildren: Cheryl Schafer, Kenneth Schafer and Frank Szabo.

A homemaker, she married Wilbur Dean Parker and after his death married Tommy Thompson who also preceded her in death.

Tresner, Rozann Cecilia Lauritsen - Mass of Christian Burial Services for Rozann (Lauritsen) Tresner, age 61 of Harlan [Iowa], who died Monday, May 10, 2010 at the Golden Living Center in Maryville, Missouri will be held Saturday, May 22, 2010 at 10:30.m. at St. Michael’s Catholic Church in Harlan. Visitation will be Thursday, May 13, 2010 at the Ritchie Funeral Home in Bedford, Iowa from 3 to 7. Cremation will follow the visitation with interment of ashes to be held in the Harlan Cemetery.

Rozann Cecilia (Lauritsen) Tresner, daughter of Donald and Regina (Patten) Gessert, was born October 3, 1948, in Westphalia, Iowa.  She was baptized and confirmed at St. Michael’s Catholic Church in Harlan, Iowa.  She graduated from Harlan Community High School in 1967.

On June 3, 1967, Rozann was united in marriage to Lyle Lee Lauritsen at St. Michael’s Catholic Church in Harlan.  Three children were born to this union, Andrew, Derrick, and Regina.

On July 27, 1996 Rozann was united in marriage to Leland Tresner in Harlan.

Rozann drove bus and worked for the Harlan Community School District for 18 years.  After her second marriage she moved to Peculiar, Missouri where she worked for the Harrison County School District. Later she moved to Kansas City, Missouri and became a foster parent. Rozann devoted herself to 10 different foster children throughout the following years. She loved spending time with children and started her own daycare after moving to Maryville, Missouri in 2005.

Rozann loved spending time with family and friends.  She enjoyed golfing, camping, fishing, and sitting around the campfire. She also enjoyed her grandchildren’s activities and school functions.  She looked forward to attending the state bowling tournament with her sisters every year.

Rozann found peace on Monday, May 10, 2010, having attained the age of sixty-one years and seven months. She is preceded in death by her parents, husband Lyle Lauritsen, a son Derrick, her brother Ralph, and a second husband Leland Tresner.

She is survived by her son Andy Lauritsen and his wife Amber of Bedford, and her daughter Gina Giesken and her husband Mike of Ravenwood; seven grandchildren: Christian, Sydney, Cheyenne, Jadyn, Lyle, Josie and Kade; a sister-in-law, Mickie Gessert of Harlan; her siblings: Donald Gessert and his wife Susan of Elk Horn, Iowa; Darold Gessert of Harlan; JoAnn and her husband Lonnie Rose of Harlan; Wayne Gessert of Council Bluffs, Iowa; Dale Gessert and his wife Georgia of Heartland, Wisconsin; Diane and her husband Terry Derby; Kathy and her husband John Kelly; Marcia and her husband Tom Albertsen; Randall Gessert; Darwin Gessert and his wife Mary all of Harlan; Beverly Gessert of Minden, Iowa; Dean Gessert and his wife Deb and Donna Jean Gessert all of Harlan; nieces; nephews; other family members and many friends.

A 1933 graduate of Quitman High School, Mrs. Tunell was a member of the First Christian Church in Maryville.

In 1986, she retired as the manager of food services for the Maryville R-II School District.

She was born on October 17, 1922 in Tulare, South Dakota to the late Charlie & Beryl (McGinness) McKee.

A graduate of Gaynor High School, she married Basil Henry Livengood who preceded her in death.

Opal is survived by her sons Carl Livengood, San Diego, CA, George Livengood, Maryville, MO, 3 grandchildren, 7 great grandchildren, and many nieces, nephews, and cousins. She is preceded in death by her parents, brothers Earl & Loren McKee, sisters Hazel Farrell, Thelma McKee, Helen Simmons, and Gail McKee, and son Basil Livengood, who passed in 2000.

There will be a visitation from 7-8 PM on Thursday, June 10, 2010 at the Bram-Danfelt Funeral Home.

Funeral Services will be at 2:00 PM on Friday, June 11, 2010 at the Bram-Danfelt Funeral Home, 206 E. South Hills Drive, Maryville. Final Resting Place will be in the White Oak Cemetery, Pickering, MO.

In lieu of flowers the family suggest that memorial donations be made to the funeral home for the Family of Opal Youell.

She was born on July 12, 1952 in Pittsburg, PA, and was raised by her mother Joan Haskell and grandmother Velma Shields, who preceded her in death.

She was employed with Kroger Grocery, and retired in 2004, and was a member of the United Food & Commercial Workers International Union, and received recognition for her Excellence in Job Performance.

She is survived by her sister Judy Jones, Maryville, Missouri, brother Robert Butner, San Pedro, California, nephew Jeremy (Cathrine) Moore, nieces Bethany, Sophie, Rebecca, Olivia, and Jessica Moore, Milford, Ohio, and her special friend Barbara Mullen.
