Jackson, James R. "Jim" - James R “Jim” Jackson 63, Ravenwood, Missouri, died Tuesday, June 24 2008, at North Kansas City Memorial Hospital, Kansas City, Missouri after a long battle with cancer.

Jim was born July 11, 1944 in Maryville, Missouri, the son of Lloyd D. and Martha Louise (Dougan) Jackson. A 1962 graduate of Northeast Nodaway High School and Jim married Joan Lager April 18, 1964 in Maryville.

He retired from NEBS as a base form press operator after 27 years of service. Jim was a member of St Joseph’s Parish, Parnell, Missouri and a lifetime member of the American Quarter Horse Association. Jim loved horses and worked with them all of his life. He rode them, raised them and trained them to show.

He was preceded in death by his parents and a sister, Barbara Jean Jackson.

Survivors include his wife, Joan Jackson of their home in rural Ravenwood; his children and their spouses: Julia and Brian Judd, Ravenwood; Jeanette and Frank Schieber, Stanberry, Missouri; Jeff and Tricia Jackson, Ravenwood; Jamie and Jason Fergison, St. Joseph, Missouri. 10 grandchildren: Clayton, Kristan and Bailey Judd, Alan, Gina and Kelli Schieber, Garet and Lindsey Jackson, Bryson and Gunner Fergison; Sisters: Donna Fryar, Maryville; Sherry McClain, Grant City, Missouri and Linda and Leo Riley, Liberal, Kansas; many nieces and nephews.

A Family Rosary will be 7pm Wednesday, June 25th at Price Funeral Home, Maryville, Missouri.

Visitation is 6-7 pm Thursday July 26, 2008 at St Joseph’s Catholic Church, Parnell, Missouri
with a parish prayer service at 7 pm.

A 10 am Mass of Christian Burial will be Friday, June 27, 2008 at St Joseph’s Catholic Church, Parnell, Missouri. Burial will be in St Joseph’s Cemetery, Parnell, Missouri.

Memorials may be given to Jim's family or left at Price Funeral Home for the James R. Jackson Memorial Fund which will be given to local organizations close to Jim's heart.

Leroy Joseph Jackson, 58, of Bedford, Iowa, died Wednesday, April 7, 2010, at Bright Kavanagh Hospice House in Des Moines, Iowa.

Born June 30, 1951, at his home in Bedford, Iowa, Leroy was the son of Orren and Abena
(Groenwald) Jackson. Mr. Jackson was a farmer.

He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers: Lawrence, James and Donald Jackson; sisters: Daisy Hernendez and Mary Ann Joslin; brother-in-law: Vernon Mackie and sister-in-law: Wilma Marie Jackson.

James, Loren Samuel - Loren Samuel James was born September 3, 1912 near Farragut, Iowa, Fremont County, Locust Grove Township, to John Henry and Mary Lorena (Van Syckel) James. He was one of ten children: Ernest, Clarence, Ralph, Glenn and Carl James, Hattie Swett, Carrie Dewey, Ferne Gregg and Marjorie Gwartney, and Loren.
Loren graduated Farragut High School in 1930. He farmed near Imogene, Emerson, Farragut, Shenandoah, Allendale, MO, Clearmont, MO, and Shambaugh, IA, making many friends during these years. He worked horses and mules and broke many horses. He rode his first gaited horse at age eight. He worked for Lyle Van Ness at the Skelly Station in Shenandoah four years and delivered propane for McClure Gas for several years. He moved to Braddyville and trained and showed Palomino American Saddle Bred horses for Robert McClure for fourteen years and travelled extensively.
Loren and Patricia Murphy were married January 17, 1970. In October 1993 he retired from the farm west of Shambaugh, IA and moved to Clarinda, IA where he walked seven to eight miles every day.
He was a life member of the Elks Lodge #1122 for sixty-one years in Shenandoah and a member of the Braddyville Lions Club until it disbanded.
Loren passed away Sunday, June 1, 2008 at Goldenrod Manor, Clarinda, IA at the age of 95.
He is preceded in death by his parents, siblings, and a granddaughter, Sarah Larinda Cox.
Loren is survived by his wife, Pat, of Clarinda, IA; daughters, Terry Lea Crowley of Clarinda, IA, and Ruth Ann (Sam) Henness and husband Alan of Schertz, TX; five grandchildren: Brian (Lawanna), Darrell, Rachel Cox, Tammy Christensen and Gabriel Patrick Baxter; three great grandchildren: Lily, Logan and Lola Cox; and many loving nieces, nephews and friends.
Funeral services were held Tuesday, June 3, 2008 at Walker-Merrick Funeral Home with Rev. Andy Rubenking officiating. Interment was at Ohio Cemetery, Burlington Junction, Missouri. Memorials are suggested to Locust Grove Methodist Church Cemetery for mowing or Elks Lodge #1122. The Tradition of Walker-Merrick Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

Jeffers, Lottie Velma Louden - Lottie Velma Jeffers, 98, Hopkins, died Monday, September 16, 1991 at the Nodaway Nursing Home, Maryville [Missouri].

She was born March 23, 1893 in Hopkins the daughter of William Milton Louden and Eva May Raines. January 28, 1991 [sic] in St Joseph, Missouri she married Ellgee (Vern) Jeffers who preceded her in death on December 10, 1967.

Mrs Jeffers was a graduate of the Hopkins High School and prior to her retirement she operated a millinery business for several years. She was a member of the Mother Church 1st Church of Christian Scientist, Boston, Massachusettes; the Hopkins American Legion and a charter member of the Auxiliary of Veterans of Foreign Wars, Maryville.

Surviving are nieces and nephews.

Graveside services will be held Thursday, September 19, at 11:00 am at the Hopkins Cemetery. There is no visitation.

Jensen, Betty Faye Elliott - Betty Faye Jensen, 64, Barnard, Missouri passed away, Wednesday, May 27, 2009 at Heartland Regional Medical Center, St. Joseph, Missouri.

She was born April 17, 1945 in Sheridan, Missouri, the daughter of John and Mary (Young) Elliott.

A 1963 graduate of Maryville High School, Betty attended NWMSU, Maryville, Missouri.

Betty had worked in many areas at Northwest Missouri State University and was currently serving as Executive Secretary to the Dean of the College of Arts and Sciences. Her “Northwest Family” was very dear to her heart.

She was preceded in death by her parents and sister, Rose Allen.

Survivors include her daughter, Johna (Rob) Geist, Lee’s Summit, Missouri; son, Brett (Pam) Jensen and grandson, Nickolas Jensen, St Louis, Missouri; their Dad, Lon Jensen, Keaton Beach, Florida; Step Son, Scott Alford and his Dad, Don; a sister: Helen Johnson, Maryville and many dear nieces and nephews.

Visitation is 6-8pm Friday, May 29, 2009 at Price Funeral Home, Maryville, Missouri.

Funeral Services are 1:00 pm Saturday, May 30, 2009 at Price Funeral Home, Maryville.

Johnson, Carl Wayne - Carl Wayne Johnson 80, Zephyrhills, Florida died November 26, 2007 in Kingdom City, Missouri.

The son of Walter and Cuma (McCoy) Johnson, Carl was retired from the US Navy.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Florence, son: James Johnson, daughter: Sharon Johnson, parents, special sister: Marjorie Sharp and brother: Clyde Johnson.

Survivors include cousins, a niece and nephew.

Memorial Services will be 3pm Saturday, December 1, 2007 at Price Funeral Home, Maryville.

Johnson, Lawrence Wayne "Lornie" - Lawrence Wayne "Lornie" Johnson, 41, of Maryville and formerly of St. Joseph, died, Sunday, April 23, 2006 from injuries sustained in an automobile accident.

Born on March 27, 1965 in Albia, Iowa he was the son of the late Donald Wayne Parcel, Sr. and Donna Rae (Johnson) Parcel of Ottumwa, Iowa.

He attended Calvary Chapel, Maryville. He was employed with Kawasaki, Maryville.

In addition to his mother he is survived by his loving wife, Cynthia Ann (Powell) Johnson, loving children, Branden Wayne, Lawrence Wayne and Sara Leann Johnson all of the home, Timothy Wayne Johnson, Independence, Iowa, two additional daughters, Heaven LaRose & Brandy Louise Johnson, siblings, Edward Lester Parcel, Dawne Denise Murphy both of Ottumwa, Iowa, Susan Kay Hunter, Nancy Renee Mendibles, Deora Olson, Robert Parcel, Mike Parcel & Phil Parcel. He was preceded in death by his father and a brother, Donald Wayne Parcel.

Johnson, Virginia Sue West - Virginia Sue (West) Johnson, 80, of Omaha, and formerly of Maryville, passed from this life on Thursday, April 26, 2007 at her daughter's home in Omaha.

Born on April 2, 1927 in Burlington Jct., Missouri, she was the daughter of the late Franklin Perry & Della Mae (Meyers) West. She was preceded in death by her husband, Dale Dorman Johnson, on September 5, 1992.

Virginia lived in the Skidmore, Quitman, and Maryville area all her life until moving to Omaha with her daughter in 2002. She was a member of the Skidmore Christian Church. She worked most of her life as a Nurse's Aide at several healthcare facilities in Maryville until she became disabled.

She is survived by her loving children, Vivian Wright and husband Sam, St. Joseph, MO; Frances Hammond, Omaha, NE; Franklin D. Johnson, Espanola, NM; and John E. West, the nephew she raised. She is also survived by grandchildren Lisa Townley, Blue Springs, MO; Sandra Hammond, Omaha, NE; Christina Kelly, Rushville, MO; Kent Hubbard, Lawson, MO; Amy Marie West, Albany; and Cody and Nathan West, St. Joseph, MO. There are 14 great grandchildren.

Virginia was preceded in death by her parents, husband, brothers, Franklin G. West, George West, and Roland West, and sisters, Agnes Gunther, Luellyn Rose Palmerton, and Dorothy Baglin.

Funeral Services will be held at 2:00 PM on Monday, April 30, 2007 at the Danfelt Funeral Home, 951 S. Main Street, Maryville, Missouri with the Rev. Don Barnett officiating. Final resting place will be in the Hillcrest Cemetery, Skidmore, Missouri.

Johnston, Mark Leroy - Mark Leroy Johnston, 57, of Maryville, MO, passed from this life on Tuesday, January 26, 2010 at the Golden Living Center in Maryville.

Born on December 10, 1952 in Laramie, WY, he was the son of Roy Johnston and the late Ielene (Riedesel) Brown.

He married Terri Jayne (Rollins) Johnston on July 20, 1974 in Laramie, WY.

After his time served in the U.S. Navy, he worked in construction most his life, though he always was an artist.

He is survived by his wife, Terri Jayne (Rollins) Johnston, of the home; a daughter Jamie Jo Greene, Laramie, WY; a sister Pamela Marshall, Laramie, WY; brothers Roy Thomas Johnston, Rock River, WY & Kevin Johnston, Laramie, WY; and grandchildren Hardy & Marcus Greene, Laramie, WY. He is preceded in death by his mother.

Mr. Johnston has been cremated under the trusted care of the Danfelt Funeral Home, 951 S. Main ST., Maryville, MO 64468.

Services will be held at a later date in Laramie, WY.

Jonagan, Mary Elizabeth Scott -

Mary Elizabeth Jonagan, Maryville, Missouri passed away peacefully on April 3, 2009. Born on December 25, 1915, she was the youngest of six children of Walter and Ethelene Scott of Ford City, Missouri. She married Glenn Jonagan on December 28, 1932 and three children were born to this union.

Mary was preceded in death by her parents, two brothers, three sisters and her husband.

Survivors include her children, Jim Jonagan and wife, Joan, Sun City, Arizona, Glenn Jonagan Jr. (Joe) and wife, Betty, Maryville, Misssouri and Jerene Pittsenbarger and husband, Dean, of Springfield, Missouri. Her legacy continues with eleven grandchildren, twenty-nine great grandchildren, eight great, great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.

She was proud of her children and their families and always delighted in sharing news of their activities and accomplishments with her friends. She was very proud that her parents and relatives were some of the first settlers in Gentry County. She leaves behind many friends and family who will miss her greatly for her sense of humor and big warm smile. The family would like to extend their heartfelt thanks to the Parkdale Manor Nursing Home in Maryville for their kindness and care throughout her years living there and her illness.

A visitation will be held from 10:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. on Saturday, April 11, 2009 and will be followed by a memorial service at 11:30 a.m., all at the First Presbyterian Church in Maryville.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests a donation to the Ford City Cemetery or a charity of their choice in honor of Mary Jonagan.

Abbot James (Donald) Jones OSB, 85, Conception Abbey, died Wednesday, August 5, 2009 at St Stephen’s Infirmary, Conception, Missouri.

Abbot James was born March 30, 1924 in Kansas City, Missouri, the only child of J. Vernet and Angela (McGinnis) Jones, who preceded him in death.

A graduate of Conception Seminary Donald professed as a Benedictine Monk August 30, 1943 and was ordained a priest March 29, 1948.

Among his many assignments, Abbot James served as professor of Latin, Theology and Canon Law at Conception Seminary from 1948-1970; Dean of Theology from 1956-1970; Chaplain at Mount Alverno Convent, Maryville, Missouri from 1959-1963; Chaplain at St Joseph Hospital, Kansas City from 1972-1973; Chaplain at Medical Center for Federal Prisoners, Springfield, Missouri from 1973-1977; Prior of Conception Abbey from 1977-1987 and Abbot of Conception Abbey from 1987-1993.

He is survived by his monastic family.

Visitation is from 6 pm Friday, August 7, 2009 with Vespers of the Dead at 7:15 pm at The Basilica of the Immaculate Conception, Conception, Missouri.

Mass of Christian Burial is 10:30 am Saturday, August 8, 2009 at the Basilica in Conception. Burial will be in St Columba Cemetery, Conception, Missouri.

 

Jones, Jewell Ruth VanSyoc -

Jewell Ruth (VanSyoc) Jones, 69, of Maryville, Missouri passed away Sunday, February 8, 2009 at Parkdale Manor in Maryville, Missouri.

She was born January 25, 1940 to Lorey Vincent “L.V.” and Mary Alice (Metcalf) VanSyoc in Milo, Iowa.

She was united in marriage to Dickie Lee Jones of Maryville on April 9, 1961 in Milo, Iowa. In the early years of their 47 ½ year marriage she raised her children and helped with the family farm. She was also an active member of the Union Home Makers Club in rural Maryville and the Nodaway County Genealogical Society. She attended the United Methodist Church in Ravenwood, Missouri.

After the children were in high school, Jewell felt the need to work outside of her home. She worked for the Maryville License Bureau, Moore’s and also NWMSU, as the office manager for student support services, where she worked until her retirement in May of 2005. After her retirement, she and Dick enjoyed the simple life where they enjoyed their yearly trips to the “Thrashers Reunion” in Mount Pleasant, Iowa over Labor Day weekends and many toy shows.

Jewell is preceded in death by her parents, her mother and father-in-law: Ralph Henry and Gladys Mae (Horn) Jones; three brothers: Ralph Metcalf VanSyoc, Kenneth Ray VanSyoc and Howard Duane “Pickle” VanSyoc; a sister-in-law: Betty Lou Bowen, one nephew Dennis Lee Jones and one niece Jeanna D. Stelljes.

She is survived by her loving husband, Dick, of their home; two daughters: Sherry G. Wray, Maryville; Brenda Sue Oppie, LaMonte, Missouri; one son: Jeffrey Duane Jones, Ravenwood, Missouri; four grandchildren: Alicia Renee (York) Johnson and husband, Nathan; Alex Mitchell Wray, Shonilea Oppie and Steven Micheal Oppie; three sisters: Dorothy Faye “Susie” and husband: Keith Uttley, Milo, Iowa; Wilma Elaine “Katie” and husband: Gerald Iverson, Kernville, California and Sharon Kaye and husband: Pat Knoer, Milo, Iowa; three brothers-in-law; six sisters-in-law, along with many aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews.

We will miss this bright and loving woman.

Jorgenson, Carol Thompson -

Carol Thompson Jorgenson, 82, died Friday, January 30, 2009, at his home in Maryville, Missouri.

He was born October 18, 1926, in Barnard, Missouri to Peter Marion and Bessie Elizabeth Thompson.

On June 4, 1948, he married Ann Annabel Ruth Hull in St. Joseph, Missouri.

Mr. Jorgenson was employed by NWMSU as an Audio Visual and Cable TV Tech (20 years) and was a member of First Christian Church, Maryville, Mo.

Carol served in the US Army during World War II in the Maritime Service and the US Transportation Corp.

He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, and sisters Nydra Hartman and Hildred Pardee.

He is survived by his son Chris , Maitland, Missouri and granddaughters Jensine Rose Jorgenson Johnson, Omaha, Nebraska, and Sara Noelle Jorgenson, Kennard, Nebraska.

Graveside Service and Burial will be held 2 PM Tuesday, February 3, at Oak Hill Cemetery,
Maryville. A visitation will be held from 6:00-7:00 Monday, February 2, at the Price Funeral Home, Maryville.

 

Joy, Gerald "Jerry" -

Gerald “Jerry” Joy, 71, of Lawson, (formerly of Conception Junction), Missouri passed away Tuesday, June 2, 2009 at the North Kansas City Hospital, Kansas City, Missouri.

He was born November 9, 1937 in Maryville, Missouri, the son of Ray Stanley and Viola Marie (Wilson) Joy. He was a graduate of Jefferson High School, Conception Junction and served in the US Air Force. He married Anne Griffin Petrics on April 9, 1965 in Las Vegas, Nevada.

Jerry owned and operated the Bay Wholesale Company in San Diego, California for many years.

He was preceded in death by his father, Stanley, a step-son: Joe Petrics and step-daughter: Sharon Peterson.

Survivors include his wife: Anne Joy, of their home; children: Ray Stanley Joy, Luck, Wisconsin; Tamara Joy Thomas, Oshkosh, Wisconsin and Michael D Joy, Siren, Wisconsin.
Step-children: Eddie Petrics; John Petrics, San Diego; Christine Peterson, Mission Viejo and Patty Kulakowski, Ontario, California; Mother: Viola Joy, Lawson; Brothers: Gary Joy, Albany, Missouri; James Joy, Rogers, Arkansas, Mark Joy, Jamestown, North Dakota; Ronald Joy, Kearney, Missouri; Richard Joy, Lawson, Missouri and Dwight Joy, Flemington, Missouri; many grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews.

Viola Marie (Wilson) Joy 92, of Kearney, (formerly of Conception Junction), Missouri passed away Monday, January 25, 2010 at Lawson Manor and Rehabilitation, Lawson, Missouri.

She was born April 11, 1917 in Conception Junction, Missouri the daughter of Chester Earl and Bertha Jane (Alsbury) Wilson. A graduate of Conception Junction High School, Viola married Ray Stanley Joy on July 6, 1935 in Maryville, Missouri.

Mrs. Joy was a member of the Northland Christian Church, North Kansas City, Missouri and a homemaker.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Ray Stanley Joy, on February 14, 1998 a son: Gerald Douglas “Jerry” Joy, on June 2, 2009; a brother: Melvin Wilson and two sisters: Margaret Herndon and Alice Farnan.

Survivors include her six sons and their spouses: Gary (Sandy) Joy, Albany, Missouri; James (Patty) Joy, Rogers, Arkansas, Mark (Charlene)Joy, Jamestown, North Dakota; Ronald (Ruth) Joy, Kearney, Missouri; Richard (Sharon) Joy, Lawson, Missouri and Dwight (Judy) Joy, Flemington, Missouri; many grandchildren and great-grandchildren; a sister: Fern Moad, Albany, Missouri and daughter-in-law: Annie Joy, Santa Anna,California.

Judah, Kathleen Alberta Hornbuckle -

Kathleen Alberta Judah, 97, Maryville, Missouri, died Wednesday, November 26, 2008, at St Francis Hospital in Maryville.

She was born June 16, 1911, in Colorado Springs, Colorado to Dolph and Zada (James) Hornbuckle.

A graduate of the Albany, Missouri High School, she also attended Northwest Missouri State Teacher's College in Maryville.

Kathleen married Howard Judah on June 6,1946, in Kansas City, Kansas. Reverend Judah preceded her in death on July 19, 1976.

After her husband's death, Mrs. Judah began working as a secretary for the Deon Schmidt Realty Company in Maryville, where she remained for 25 years. She belonged to the Twentieth Century Club and also served as a hospital volunteer for the Red Cross.

Mrs. Judah was an active member of the Maryville First Baptist Church for 50 years.

Also preceding her in death was a sister, Lake Hornbuckle.

She is survived by her son, John Judah and wife, Vicky, Maryville; three granddaughters and their husbands: Maggie (Brian) Glenn, Belleville, Illinois, Rachel (Brandon) Heck, Lee's Summit, Missouri and Katie (Joshua) Hinrichs, Savannah, Missouri; sisters: Mary Milbourn, Tulsa, Oklahoma and Carol Parks, Saint Louis, Missouri.

There will be no formal visitation, however friends may call anytime after 10:00 a.m. Friday at the Price Funeral Home, Maryville.

Funeral Services will be held at the Maryville First Baptist Church on Saturday, November 29th at 10:30 a.m.

Burial will be in Nodaway Memorial Gardens Maryville, Missouri

Memorials may be directed to the First Baptist Church in Maryville.

 

Judd, Larry David - Larry David Judd, 63, died Saturday, September 1, 2007, at his home in Pickering, Missouri.

He was born September 8, 1943, in Kansas City, Missouri to Cecil and Doris (Lanning) Judd. They preceded him in death.

He was a 1961 graduate of North Nodaway High School. He later graduated in mechanics at the Kansas City Trade School.

Mr. Judd married Juliana Linebaugh on September 15, 1963, in Pickering.

He was a farmer who did custom farm work and was the owner and operator of Leisure Lawn Service.

He was a member of the Laura Street Baptist Church, Maryville, Missouri and was also leader for the Boy Scouts of America.

Survivors are his wife Juliana Judd, Pickering, six sons: Bruce Judd and wife Nicky, Maryville, Brian Judd and wife Julia, Ravenwood, Missouri, Brad Judd and wife Leisa, Hopkins, Missouri, Darin Judd, Joe Judd, both of Gardner, Kansas and Brett Judd, Pickering; two daughters: Darla Workman and husband James, Maryville and Dawn Brown and husband Rodney, Allendale, Missouri; Eleven grandchildren and One great-grandchild .

Funeral Services will be held at 10:00am Tuesday, September 4, 2007 at Price Funeral Home Chapel, Maryville.
A visitation will be held from 6:00-8:00pm Monday, September 3, also at the funeral home.
Burial:Orrsburg Cemetery Parnell, Missouri

Memorials: Laura Street Baptist Church Building Fund, the Orrsburg Cemetery Fund, or SSM Hospice, Maryville.

 

Juhl, Kaleb Oak - Kaleb Oak Juhl, age 29, formerly of Maryville, died in an auto accident, November 20, 2009, in Asheville, North Carolina. Family and friends will gather for a celebration of life, 2:00 PM Wednesday, November 25, 2009 at Price Funeral Home, Maryville, MO.
