Obituary

John W. Lytle was born in Allegheny County, Pennsylvania, Oct. 20, 1817. He with his parents moved to Washington County, Pennsylvania in 1839. He was married to Hannah Hipple August 12, 1841; their union was blessed with six children, five of whom survive him, J. [ohn] F. [ranklin] Lytle his youngest son having preceded him some three years ago. They moved to Genesee County, Ohio, in 1844. In 1862 they moved to Nodaway County, Missouri, some six miles west of Hopkins where they lived until four years ago when they moved to Hopkins where they spent a pleasant and retired life until his death, July 11, 1890. He passed quietly away at the age of 72 years, 8 months and 21 days. He leaves a wife and five children to mourn his loss. He was converted in Bellville, Ohio in 1842, and united with the M. E. church of which he was such a faithful worker. In his death the church loses one of its most faithful workers, and the community one of its best citizens. He was conscious till the last, giving evidence of his exceptedness with God. He died as he had lived in the triumphs of faith. His funeral was conducted by the pastor, W. B. Redburn at the M. E. church in Hopkins Sunday at 11 o’clock. It was said to be the largest funeral ever held in the city. May the blessing of God be with the friends forever.        W. B. R.

Obituary

DIED---On Sunday evening, Dec. 17, of lung fever, Sarah E. [lizabeth Puett], wife of Eli McAtee, aged 59 years, 10 months and 5 days. She leaves a husband and five daughters to mourn her loss. She was a loving wife and a devoted mother. She was a member of the M. E. church of Hopkins. The funeral services were held at the residence by Rev. Chapin Monday afternoon, after which the body was interred in Washburn cemetery.

Dearest Mother, thou has left us,
Here thy loss we deeply feel;
But ‘tis God that hath bereft us,

He can all our sorrows heal.

Now within the arms of Jesus,

Softly resting from all care,

Lies our dear beloved mother;

Let us strive to meet her there.

Farewell, mother, soon we’ll meet thee,

Soon our trials here will cease;

Then with joy in heav’n we’ll greet thee,

There we’ll live with Christ in peace.
