Mrs. Nancy Booth Dies; Funeral to Be Friday

Mrs. Nancy Jane Booth, 83 years old, died at 2:30 o’clock yesterday afternoon at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Ralph White, six miles west of Maryville, following an illness of two months.

She was born February 6, 1861, near Quitman, and had resided in the present community all of her life.  Mrs. Booth had lived with her daughter about a month.  On September 2, 1887, she was married to William Harvey Booth, who preceded her in death in 1933.  Mrs. Booth was a member of the Methodist church.

Besides Mrs. White, she is survived by three other daughters, Mrs. Arch Willhoyte and Mrs. Ralph White, Maryville, and Mrs. Maude Kelley, Kansas City; three sons, Harve Booth, Burlington Junction, Earl Booth, Wilcox; Lester Booth, Maryville; one half-brother, Tom Hardesty, St. Joseph; fourteen grandchildren and seven great grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held at 3:30 o’clock Friday afternoon at the Price funeral home.  Burial will be in the Cain cemetery, west of Maryville.  Rev. James E. Jones, pastor of the First Methodist church will officiate.

Music was furnished by Emery Airy, accompanied by Mrs. Harry Price, when funeral services were conducted here yesterday for Mrs. Nancy Jane Booth of near Maryville, who died Wednesday.

Rev. James E. Jones pastor of the First Methodist church officiated.  Burial was in the Cain cemetery, northwest of Maryville.

Flowers were in charge of Miss Hazel Kelly, Mrs. James Booth, Mrs. Forrest White, Mrs. Merle White, Mrs. David White and Mrs. Kenneth Conz.

Kenneth William Conz, 85, Maryville, formerly of Parnell, died Sunday, June 18,1995, at Heartland West Hospital, St. Joseph.

Born Aug. 16, 1909, in Frankfort, Kan., to Earl Henry and Nellie Locas Conz, he was a retired farmer.

He married Velma Bessie White, March 1,1930, in St. Joseph.

Mr. Conz had been a resident of Maryville since 1969. He was a member of the Jehovah's Witnesses, Maryville.

He was preceded in death by one son, Erlin H. Conz; one brother, Ralph Conz; and one sister, Velma Weaver.

Survivors include his wife of the home; one daughter, Arvetta [Marie] Wilson of Pickering; one sister, Berneice Adams of Portland, Ore.; four grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

Visitation is currently under way at Price Funeral Home Chapel, Maryville.

Services will be held at 2 p.m., Thursday, at Price Funeral Home Chapel, Maryville.

Burial will be in Nodaway Memorial Gardens, Maryville.

Kenneth W. Conz

Kenneth William Conz, 85, Maryville, Missouri, passed away on Sunday, June 18, 1995, at a St. Joseph hospital after a brief illness.

Born in Frankfort, MO, on August 16, 1909, Mr Conz lived in Parnell, MO, before moving to Maryville in 1969.

He was a retired farmer and member of the Jehovah's Witnesses in Maryville.

On March 1, 1930, he married Velma B. [essie] White, in St. Joseph. She survives him of the home.

Mr. Conz was preceded in death by a son, Erlin H. Conz in 1989; a brother, Ralph Conz; and a sister, Velma Weaver.

Additional survivors include a daughter, Arvetta [Marie] Wilson of Pickering, MO; a sister, Berneice Adams of Portland, Oregon; four grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.

Services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Thursday, June 22, 1995, at the Price Funeral Home Chapel in Maryville. Burial will be in the Nodaway Memorial Gardens, Maryville.

Henry Lee Orick Dies; To Hold Funeral Monday

Henry Lee Orick, 84-year-old retired farmer, died at 7:50 o’clock last night [June 14, 1945] at his home at Barnard following a long illness.

Mr. Orick had resided at the present residence fifteen years. He was born February 15, 1861, the son of the late Mr. and Mrs. Benjamin Orick. He was a member of the Methodist church.

Surviving are five daughters, Mrs. Mary Elizabeth Owens, Mrs. Mattie Catherine Townsend and Mrs. Minnie Lue Ogier, Barnard; Mrs. Rebecca Owens, Skidmore, and Mrs. Dora Evelyn Fleming, Savannah.

Funeral services will be held at 2 o’clock Monday afternoon at the Methodist church of Barnard with the pastor, the Rev. J. Roy Slade, officiating. Burial will be in the Masonic cemetery at Barnard. The body will lie in state at the church from 1 o’clock Monday afternoon until the hour of the service.

Mrs. Sarah Orick Dies; Funeral Conducted Today

Funeral services were held at 2:30 o’clock this afternoon at the Methodist church in Barnard for Mrs. Sarah Elizabeth [Yeary] Orick, 83 years of age, who died at 7 o’clock Saturday night [August 1, 1942] at the family home in Barnard, where she had resided six years. Rev. J. W. Wheeler, pastor, officiated. Burial was in the Masonic cemetery.

Mrs. Orick, who had resided in the Barnard community most of her life and was known as “Grandma Orick,” was born September 20, 1858, at Pennington, Va. On September 5, 1880, she was married at Sneedville, Tenn. to Henry L. [ee] Orick. Mrs. Orick, who was a member of the Methodist church, suffered a brief illness.

Survivors include her husband and five daughters, Mrs. Mary [Elizabeth] Owens, Mrs. Mattie [Catherine] Townsend and Mrs. Minnie [Lue] Ogier, Barnard; Mrs. Rebecca Owens, Skidmore, and Mrs. Dora Fleming, Savannah.

Skidmore Man Found Dead By His Mother

George W. [ashington] Owens of Skidmore, age 40, was found dead in his bed about 6 o’clock this morning by his mother, Mrs. Jacob Owens. The mattress of the bed was smoldering when his death was discovered. Funeral arrangements have not been made.

Mr. Owens, day laborer, had lived his entire life in the home where he died. Surviving are his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Jacob Owens of Skidmore; three brothers, Reed Owens, Maryville; Roy [McKinley] Owens, St. Joseph, and Kenneth [Eugene] Owens, who is with the armed forces in Japan; and four sisters, Mrs. Homer Lowrance, sr., Maryville; Mrs. Ted Deffenbaugh, Skidmore; Mrs. Dorothy Irwin, of the state of Arkansas, and Mrs. Kate Mast, Junction City, Kas. His body is at the Campbell funeral home.

Services for George W. Owens

Funeral services for George W. [ashington] Owens of Skidmore, who died Nov. 6, 1950, were held at 2 o’clock Thursday afternoon, Nov. 9, at the Methodist church of Quitman, conducted by the Rev. William Thompson. Burial was in Hillcrest cemetery.

Special music was provided by a quartet composed of Miss Arden Jameson, William Turpin, Bobby Bodle and Logan McGinnis, singing “No Tears in Paradise,” “Going Down the Valley,” and a solo, “I Won’t Have to Cross Jordan Alone” was sung by Logan McGinnis. Mrs. Harold Copeland was the accompanist.

The flowers were in charge of Mrs. J. R. Bodle, Mrs. Freddie Newton, Mrs. Roland Bodle, Mrs. Glenn Stephens, Mrs. Floyd Deffenbaugh, Mrs. J. R. McClain, Mrs. Bert Johnson and Mrs. Douglas McClain.

Pallbearers were J. R. Bodle, V. D. Keith, Charles Hickerson, William Hitchcock, Wayne Brunk and Larry Ray.

Military services at the grave were conducted by the American Legion post of Skidmore. C. E. Hilsabeck is Commander and Ross Martin, chaplain. Color bearers included Reed Barrett, Donald King, Edgar Fishback and Bert Johnson. She is survived by three sons, Reed   Owens, Maryville, Mo.; Roy [McKinley] Owens, St. Joseph, and Kenneth [Eugene] Owens, Madison, Wis., four daughters, Mrs. Ted [Theodore Franklin] Deffenbaugh [Fern Paulina], Skidmore; Mrs. Homer Lowrance Sr. [Verda Gertrude], Maryville; Mrs. Dorothy [Jean] Irwin, Springdale, Ark. and Mrs. Katie [Lee] Mast, Junction City, Kan.; four sisters, Mrs. Mattie [Katherine] Townsend and Mrs. Clifford Ogier [Minnie Lou], both of   Barnard, Mo.; Mrs.   Mary [Elizabeth] Owens, Maryville, and Mrs. Dora [Evelyn] Fleming, Savannah, Mo., and 23 grandchildren.

Reed Owens, 76, Maryville, died July 12, 1988 in St. Francis Hospital unexpectedly.

Owens was born to Jacob [Campbell] Owens and Rebecca [Minerva] Orick Owens on May 23, 1912 in Fillmore, Mo. He was married to Vera [Opal] White in December 1931 in Troy, Kan. and spent most of his life in the Northwest Missouri area.

Owens served in World War II and was a farmer most of his life. He was a member of First United Methodist of Maryville and Skidmore American Legion Post 411.

He is preceded in death by his parents; one baby daughter [Mary Catherine]; three sisters, Mrs. Verda Sturm, Fern Deffenbaugh, and Mrs. Dorothy Irwin; and two brothers, George Owens and Roy [McKinley] Owens.

Survivors include his wife Vera Owens of the home in Maryville; one son, Randy [Ray] Owens of Skidmore, Mo.; one daughter, Judy [Judith Rebecca] Johnson of Washington, D. C., one brother, Kenneth [Eugene] Owens, Denison, Texas, one sister Katie Cutting of Kansas City and nieces and nephews.

Visitations will be any time at Price Funeral. Services for Owens will be held 2 p. m. Friday, June 15, 1988 at Price Funeral Home and burial will be held Nodaway Memorial Cemetery in Maryville. Memorials are asked to be sent to American Heart and American Lung Association.

Forrest Everett White, 74 of Maryville, MO, formerly of Hopkins, MO, passed away on Friday, January 6, 1995, at the St. Francis Hospital, Maryville, MO.

Born west of Maryville on April 9, 1920 to Ralph and Nora Blanche Booth White, he was a graduate of Maryville High School. He moved to the Hopkins area where he lived until 1978

In 1953, he married Iona Ruth Summers at Troy, Kansas. She survives of the home.

Mr. White was a musician and preformed with The Country Travelers. He played various instruments, including the fiddle and harmonica.

Additional survivors include two sons, John White of Hopkins, MO, and Dennis White of Bedford, Iowa; a daughter, Donna Hansen of Hopkins, MO; two sisters, Vera Owens and Velma Conz both of Maryville, MO; two brothers, Merle R. White of Hopkins, MO, and Donald White of Burlington Junction, MO; 10 grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.  

Services were held at 2:00 p.m., Monday, January 9, 1995 at the Price Funeral Home Chapel, Maryville. Burial was in the Nodaway Memorial Gardens, Maryville.

Ralph L. White, Former Hopkins Businessman, Dies Sunday at Age 85

Ralph L. White, 85, Maryville, a retired farmer, died at 8:20 a.m. Sunday, Feb. 23, at the St. Francis Hospital, following a long seven-year illness.

Mr. White was well known in the Hopkins community as he built and operated the Roxy Theater here for 13 years. He also helped organize the Hopkins State Bank 20 years ago and was one of the first directors.

He was born Dec. 18, 1889, at Shambaugh, Iowa, the son of the late Mr. and Mrs. David White.

On Jan. 25, 1911, he was married at Quitman to Nora Blanche Booth, who survives. He was a member of the United Methodist Church.

Besides his wife of the home, he is survived by two daughters, Mrs. Reed Owens [Vera Opal] and Mrs. Kenneth Conz [Velma Bessie], Maryville; three sons, Donald White, Burlington Jct., and Forrest and Merle White, Hopkins; one brother, Raleigh White, Quitman; 12 grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild.

Services were held at 2 p.m. Tuesday at the Price Funeral Home, Maryville, with Dr. Paul E. White officiating. Burial was in Nodaway Memorial Gardens, Maryville.

Ira C. Williams Dies After a Brief Illness

Ira Curry Williams, 87 years of age, died at 2:20 o’clock this morning at the home of his grandson Glen Williams, 615 South Walnut Street, following a brief illness.

Mr. Williams was born June 19, 1855, in Indiana, the son of the late Mr. and Mrs. George Williams. He had formerly resided in Maryville and left here in 1931 and went to Shenandoah, Ia. Since returning he had lived here five weeks.

He is survived by a daughter, Miss Bess Williams, Webb City, Mo.; one son, George Williams, Shenandoah, Ia.; eleven grandchildren; sixteen great-grandchildren and one great great grandchild.

Funeral services will be held at the Price Funeral Home and burial will be in the Miriam cemetery. Other funeral arrangements have not been completed.

Charles Elmer Wilson, 69 years of age, passed away on Monday, October 3, 1994, at the Liberty, MO, Hospital.

Born in Hopkins, Missouri, Charles had resided in Ohio before moving to Polo, MO, in 1992 and Hamilton in 1990.

He had been an electrical engineer for the Marley Pump Company in Kansas City, MO, retiring in 1986. During World War II, Mr. Wilson served in the Navy. He was a member of the Baptist Church.

Surviving is his wife, Donna Wilson of the home; a son, Charles E. Wilson of Polo, MO; a daughter, Joyce Pife of Kingston, MO; seven grandchildren and a great-grandchild.

Burial was in the Ashland Cemetery, Ashland, Ohio.

[Vada] Lucille [Thurman Boner Willis] Wilson, 86, Stanberry, died Wednesday, July 12,1995, at Pineview Manor, Stanberry.

Born in Gotebo, Okla., she attended school in Alanthus and was a homemaker.

She married Kenneth [Edward] Wilson, in October of 1971, in Stanberry.

Ms. Wilson was a member of the First Baptist Church, Stanberry; the Sunshine Club, Stanberry; and was active in the area senior citizens center.   

She was preceded in death by her parents, two sisters, Velva [Catherine] Thurman and Lela [Viola] Noble; two brothers, David [Foy] Thurman and Ples [Pleasant Cleo] Thurman; and one son-in-law, Robert Redden.

Survivors include three stepsons, Roger Wilson of New Mexico, Terry Wilson of Florida, and Keith Wilson of Atlanta; two daughters, Mary Gage of Stanberry and Dorothy Redden of Odessa; two sisters, Gayle Weese of Kansas City and Minnie Waldon of Kansas City; seven grandchildren, 24 great-grandchildren; and six great-great-grandchildren.

Visitation will be held from 7 to 8:30 p.m., Thursday, at Johnson Funeral Home, Stanberry.

Services will be held at 10:30 a.m., Friday, at First Baptist Church, Stanberry.

Burial will be in High Ridge Cemetery, Stanberry.

Clarice M. Wurm, 67, Mankato, Kan., died Wednesday, June 14,1995, at Asbury-Salina Regional Medical Center, Salina, Kan.

Born Dec. 4, 1927, in Decatur County, Kan., to Claude and Rista Miller Brainard, she was a homemaker and owned and operated a flower shop in McCook, Neb., for 12 years.

She married Eldred Wurm, June 8, 1947, in Oberlin, Kan.               

Ms. Wurm was a member of the Harmony United Methodist Church, United Methodist Women and Martha Circle, all in Mankato, Kan. She had lived in Oberlin, Atwood, Topeka and Shawnee, Kan.; McCook, Neb.; and Mankato, Kan.                 

Survivors include her husband of the home, Mankato; two sons, Michael J. Wurm of Maryville, and Kent D. Wurm of Shawnee, Kan.; one sister, Marjorie Konovaske of Mankato, Kan.; two brothers, David Brainard of Topeka, Kan., and Larry Brainard of Coupeville, Wash.; and six grandchildren.  

Visitation will be held from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m., Friday, at Kramer Funeral Home, Mankato, Kan.

Services will be held at 10:30 a.m., Saturday, at Harmony United Methodist Church, Mankato, Kan., with Pastor Kendal Utt officiating.

Graveside Services will be held at 3 p.m., Saturday, at Oberlin Cemetery, Oberlin, Kan., with Pastor Kendal Utt officiating.
