Maude Baird, 94, Rock Port, died Saturday, May 21, 1994 at
Pleasant View Nursing Home, Rock Port.
Born Feb. 21,1900 in Ohio County, Ky. to Tildon
[Hendricks] and Eliza [Rettie Lee Griffith] Johnson, she was a homemaker.
She married Clyde Baird, Nov. 12, 1919 in Ohio County,
Ky.
Ms. Baird attended rural school in Kentucky. She was a
member of the First Baptist Church, Maryville, and the Rebekah
Lodge.
She was preceded in death by: her parents;
husband; two brothers, Albert Johnson and Fred Johnson.
Survivors include: one son, Charles
Baird, Rock Port; one sister Alsie Shelton, Owensboro, Ky.;
one brother, Bill Johnson,
Texas; four grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.
Visitation is currently under way at Price Funeral
Home, Maryville.
Graveside Services will be held at 10:30 a.m.
Wednesday at Miriam Cemetery, Maryville, with the Rev. Delbert Biehle
officiating.
Memorials may be made to First Baptist Church,

St. Francis Hospital, Maryville.
Born April 27,1902, near Barnard to John
[Oliver] and Edna Neal Collins,
he was a retired teacher and farmer. He was a member of Skidmore Christian
Church, a 1919 graduate of Pickering High School and he attended Maryville State
Teachers College.
He was preceded in death by his parents, two
brothers and a grandson.
Survivors include his wife [Verna Merle
Treese], Maryville; five sons, Eldon [Lloyd], Quitman, Howard, Yucca Valley, Calif., David, Centralia, Ill., Jack [Duane] and Ron [ald

Raymond Theodore Derks, 76, Clyde, died Sunday, March 24,1991, at St.
Francis Hospital, Maryville.
Born March 30,1914 in Gentry to John H. and
Veronica Klaas Derks, he was an
International Harvester Dealer in Conception Junction for 20 years and was
employed by Conception Abbey for 22 years. He attended Fairview School and
served with the U.S. Army during World War II. He was a prisoner of war in
Germany for six months. He was a member of St. Columba Parish, Conception
Junction; Tri-C American Legion Post #464, Conception Junction; and the Veterans
of Foreign Wars Post.
He married Gertrude Anna Lager on Aug. 30,1938, in Clyde.
Derks was preceded in death by his parents, a sister
and a brother.
Survivors include his wife, of the home; two sons, Marvin, Maryville, and Raymond B., St. Joseph; four
daughters, Dorothy Jermain,
Wathena, Kan., Louise Rogers,
Maryville, Elaine Hamilton,
Eureka Springs, Ark., Lucille Frampton, Shawnee, Kan.; 12 grandchildren; six

Home, Maryville. A family rosary will be said this evening at 7:30 at Price
Funeral Home Chapel, Maryville. The parish rosary will be said at 8 p.m.

Samuel Vernon Florea, age 74, retired farmer, died at 9:30 o’clock
Friday night at his home in Hopkins, where he had lived since September 1952,
moving there from his farm in the Gaynor community. He had been ill for six
weeks.
Born May 15, 1879 near Sheridan, Mr.
Florea is survived by his wife, Mrs. Daisy [Killion] Florea of
the home; eight children, including Mrs. Forrest Hinton [Opal Mae], Mrs. Roy
Thompson [Leta Marie], Mrs. E. [lwin] L. [avonne] Mayfield, Orlen E. [lbert]
Florea and [Marvin] Dennis
Florea, all of Hopkins; Mrs.
Ola Cooper [Gladys Olivia] and Mrs. Lloyd Hart [Ennis
Leona] of Sheridan, and J.

Hopkins. Mr. Florea was a

Born in Maryville on June 6, 1913 to George and
Effie Hostetter Roberts, she was
employed for 18 years with the J.C. Penney Company in St. Joseph, retiring as
Sales Supervisor. Griggs was a
member of Church of God Seventh Day, St. Joseph. She also lived in St. Joseph
and Wichita, Kan. She married Dean Griggs.
Griggs was preceded in death by her husband, a brother
and a sister.
Survivors include a son, Kenneth
D., Wichita, Kan.; two
grandchildren, Stephanie and Christopher Griggs, both of
Wichita, Kan.; and a sister, Stella Holaday, Maryville.
Services were held this afternoon at 1:30 at
Meierhoffer-Fleeman Funeral Home, St. Joseph. Burial was at Memorial Park
Cemetery, St. Joseph.

She married Elmer Baker Hanna, April 8,1922, in

Ms. Hanna was a graduate of Pickering High School and an
American Red Cross volunteer in Kansas City during World War U. She was a member
of Ravenwood United Methodist Church; the United Methodist Women of Pickering
and Ravenwood; the Bloomdale Willing Workers Club of Pickering; Modern
Missourians; the Golden Age Club of Ravenwood; and a 4-H leader for five
years.
She was preceded in death by her husband; one son, Francis Willard Hanna; one
sister, Cleora Lett; and one
son-in-law, Ralph Hatcher.

William F. Lett Dies; To Hold Funeral
Tuesday
Funeral services will be held at 2 o’clock Tuesday
afternoon at the Price funeral home for William Franklin Lett, 71 years old, of Pickering, who died at 3:45
o’clock Sunday morning at the St. Francis hospital where he had been a patient
two days.
The Rev. Dr. G. A. Baldwin, pastor of the
Methodist church of Pickering, will officiate. Burial will be in Oak Hill
cemetery.
Mr. Lett was born March 23, 1873, in Holt county, across
the river from Rulo, Neb., the son of the late Mr. and Mrs. William Lett
[Hester Anna Glenn]. Mr. Lett,
who had been ill three weeks, had resided in the Pickering community
thirty-seven years. On March 4, 1896, he was married at Barnard to Fannie E.
[stler] Smith, who survives. He
was a member of the Methodist church of Pickering.
Besides his wife, he is survived by one daughter, Mrs. Elmer [Baker] Hanna [Hazel Lerita], Kansas City; two brothers, Harry H.
Lett, Jefferson City, and John
H. Lett, St. Joseph; two sisters, Mrs. Alice Rutledge and Mrs. Pearl Herman, Denver,
Colo.; one grandson, Cpl. William E. Hanna, with the Eighth Air Force in England; three
granddaughters, Mrs. Doris Hatcher and Misses Donna May and Ethelda
Hanna, Kansas

Marie C. [ecilia] Meyer, 91, Inver Grove Heights, Minn., died Monday,
February 8, 1993 at Southview Acres Health Care Center, West St. Paul,
Minn.
Born May 22,1901 in Conception to Clement and
Elizabeth Brady Meyer, she was a
housekeeper and a retired cook, keeping house in several parishes in Kansas City
and St. Joseph Diocese.
She was a graduate of Conception High School and a
member of the Oblates of St Benedict and several rosary
societies.
After retirement Miss Meyer moved to Minn. in 1984 to live with her niece and
husband, Dr. and Mrs. Virgil Sandkamp in Inver Grove Heights.
Miss Meyer was preceded in death by her parents; one brother
and one sister.
Survivors include two nieces, Sister Rose Mary
Meyer, B.V.M., Chicago, and Joan Burne Sandkamp, Inver
Grove Heights; one nephew, Lawrence Meyer, Maryville; eight grand-nieces and four
great-grand nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be held from 8:30 to 9:30 a.m.
Friday at the Abbey Church, Conception.
Services will be held at 9:30 a.m. Friday at the
Basilica of the Immaculate Conception, Conception with the Rev. Adam Ryan,

She was born December 31,1919 in Hopkins, MO, to Peter "Pete" W. [arren] Peve and Vulia Mae Gray. She was a
graduate of Hopkins High School and attended Prairie Star rural grade
school.
On October 31,1942 she married Ivan Edward
Rose in San Luis Obispo,
California.
She was a retired cashier from the Crossroad
Market in Pomona, California. Mrs. Rose was a member of the First Baptist Church of
Hopkins.
Survivors include her husband Ivan
Rose of the home, two sisters Rosemary Killam, Yuma,
Arizona; and Annabelle Morton,
Maryville, MO; two brothers Bill Peve, Wauchula, FL; Bob Peve, Maryville, MO; and nieces and
nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, one
sister Mildred Garvin, three

Rowlett died Wednesday, March 20, 1991. Burial was at
Maitland Cemetery.
Pallbearers were William Griffith, Denzil
Griffith, Jay Lynn Griffith, Elmer Smith, Ron Rowlett, Jeff Rowlett and Kevin
Rowlett.
Gladys Hefner was organist and the Rev. Jon
Spalding was vocalist.

Leta [Marie] Thompson, 85,
Hopkins, died Monday, May 23,1994 at St. Francis Hospital,
Maryville.
Born June 2,1908 near Hopkins, to Samuel
[Vernon] and Daisy Killion Florea, she was a homemaker.
She married Roy D. [onald] Thompson
Sr. on March 5, 1930.
Ms. Thompson was a member of the Gaynor Christian Church,
attended the Hopkins Christian Church and was also a member of the Mercy Ridge
Club, Hopkins.
She was preceded in death by her parents; two
brothers, Orlin [Elbert] Florea and J. [ohn] W.[illiam] Florea.
Survivors include: her husband of the home; one
son, R. [oy] D. [onald] Thompson, Pickering; one brother,
[Marvin] Dennis
Florea, Hopkins; four sisters, Opal [Mae] Hilton, Hopkins, Ennis [Leona] Hart, Maryville, Gladys [Olivia] Cooper,
Pickering, and Kennie Ellis,
Maryville; two granddaughters; three great-grandsons; and many nieces and
nephews.
Visitation will be held from 7 to 8 p.m. Wednesday
at Price Funeral Home, Maryville.
Services will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday at Price
Funeral Home Chapel, Maryville.
Burial will be in Hopkins Cemetery,
Hopkins.
